Teen Moms (tv show)

I had seen the first one several months ago and I think we discussed it on here. Twinkie taped the last one for me and I just watched it a minute ago.

For those of you who haven't watched, it's about four (I think) teenaged girls who all got pregnant and had their babies. Only one couple decided to give their baby up for adoption and the other three kept theirs to raise themselves.

I really felt for Maci/Marci (don't remember her name). She has lived with her boyfriend in an apartment with their son for a year and the dumbbutt boyfriend hasn't grown up any!!! Amber, one of the other girls, is a big ol spoiled baby, herself. Boyfriend (whom she lives with) is a do-nothing, lazy sucker. Poor baby!

Anybody watch this show? I've gotten the impression that it's going to be a new series. I really care what happens to the one couple who gave their baby away and also Maci.

As someone who had a baby at 18, I can sure relate to a lot of their problems and I had a guy who stepped up to the plate, married me and worked his butt off to make us a living. Sheesh! Poor kids (and the babies, too.)

I watched it and I think I saw somewhere where they were going to come back and show how they girls/babies/boyfriends are doing now.

I have not seen it. But the 8th grade students I saw today were talking about it. But they talked about it like it was some kind of soap opera, drama; the real life issues just went right over their heads. Scary. They laughed at certain events and talked about the people like characters in a drama, had their favorites and the ones they hated... They were *not* talking about it in terms of lessons learned or the struggles faced. Not the impact you'd want it to have on young teen girls who are already in the "at risk" category as far as finishing school. Not taking it seriously at all. More like a chance to get on a TV show. Sad, made my heart hurt with fear for them.

I've tried to avoid reading about them because the entire situation angers me. I'm thankful that the daughter has been rescued but I have to say that this seems to be just another self serving stunt. How on earth did they finance the daughter's sailing trip? Where is their common sense? Lynn - I've long thought that extreme sporting adventurers like mountain climbers should have to post a bond or purchase insurance that would cover the costs of a rescue if needed. Obviously not every sport would fall into this category but there are some that are inherently significantly more dangerous than others. Who absorbs the costs associated with the rescue attempts?

Most ratings are now measured as Live +3, so if you watch your DVR's within 3 days of the first airing your viewing will count with the ratings. I don't pretend to understand the advertiser's demo specs, but the bottom line is the networks have to pull in enough ad revenue to offset their licensing fees, per episode. If it doesn't pay for them, they can't afford to continue to license the product. We don't like cancellations either, but it's the nature of the beast. HBO is one of the most prolific and expensive producers at the moment (GoT). Their inventory capital is primarily provided by subscription fees. Streaming and downloading are, AFAIK, funded through subscription sites or pay per view. Those fees replace the advertising revenue stream. The 15/16 season looks heavy on new medical and crime shows. Not much new in half hour sitcoms that I can see. Sorry your favorites are gone- we don't like to see them go either :(

It is too bad that humans don't come with a on/off switch for reproduction. It shouldn't be possible to have a baby until COUPLES take parenting classes and are able to afford to feed, clothe and educate a child. Harsh? Yes, but I think the kids born would be taken care of....by their PARENTS (plural) not just one mother or father. JMO, Dottie

Stephanie, I think a lot of their attitude comes from the old "that won't happen to me" syndrome! I don't know why some people (esp. kids) think they have a built in insulation system that keeps bad stuff ie.: death, pregnancy, illness, etc. away from them.

The couple that gave their baby up for adoption went and got tattoos with their baby's footprint/handprint and DOB on them. They said that that way she would know that "someday she would know that she was loved". Sweet, entirely immature thinking all the way around.

Teen girls get all the wrong messages from things like this. One of the adoption agencies in my area used to present programs in the high schools: "If you get pregnant, remember the Adoption Option." For all I know, they're still doing it...somewhere.

Don't adults realize that insecure teen girls crave attention? Don't they know that some girls will GET pregnant just to play what they think is a role -- to be praised for giving their babies to anonymous strangers?

des arc ya ya -- I am happy that your little family survived intact! I've know many birthmoms who could have kept their children with only a little help and support from their families. Within two years of surrendering a child, everything changed in their lives and they could have made it. Their children wouldn't have had to lose their original families.

Years ago I knew a high school age girl who was unhappy at home with her parents. She got pregnant and figured Welfare would get her an apartment and food stamps plus stuff for the baby. Didn't work out that way. Dumb thinking. My nephew's girlfriend recently gave birth to their baby girl. She's taking care of her in her parents' home. She has a job but no health insurance and no savings. They have no plans to get married but my nephew insists he really loves the girl and will help raise and support the baby.

Thanks, chisue. Yes, we made it intact - for right at 20 years. Kids were 19 and 15 when we divorced.

des_arc -- You might be interested to know that more than a few 'found' birth parents -- reunited with one another because their child had found them -- were still in love.
