You're not a burden. I hope she/he didn't mean it and that just misspoke or something. Maybe she/he is just struggling with their own issues... who knows. I think it's very healthy that you are able to come here and vent, and sometimes ask for help with problem solving. You have a lot going on your life, and you need support. That person just isn't available to support you for now, for whatever reason.

We all go through periods in our lives where we're the strong one, and then other periods where we're the needy one. Life is a balance. And I think you've had more than your share of periods of being super-duper-strong in the past couple of years.

There's absolutely no shame in needing support from friends and loved ones. It sounds to me like this person ... is a fair-weather person. They'll like you or love you just when you're being strong.

Yes, I'm sure it did hurt you. Not only are you a caring person in the first place, but right now you're not feeling well and you're scared and OF COURSE something like that would hurt your feelings.

I can't make it better, I'm too far away. But I'd come *bop* that person on the head if I could.

Awww.. Nicki! You are not a burden! Yes, you've had your share of problems lately.. everyone does (and they do always seem to come all at once). I've been feeling bad for the past 2 years with the thyroid problems and I'm sure people have said things behind my back - but I'm feeling so much better now. You will too very soon!!

I'm very sorry someone called you that. Can't imagine saying that to a friend. You are going through a very tough time in your life, and need some help occasionally.There is nothing wrong with that. You already feel bad enough, you don't need someone saying that to you. Shame on them, they do not deserve you in their life. Keep your chin up!

Many of us are 'burdens' when we are sick. Not a nice thing to say or hear, but it's not the end of the world. Don't want to go off on 'your friend' without knowing the whole story though. Just don't take it so personally; I have a feeling it was said in frustration from someone who actually does care about you....

That wasn't very nice of them. I think you are a very strong person to go through all that you have and to be raising your girls on your own. I don't think anyone can be a burden to someone who loves and cares about them. DH was diagnosed with bladder cancer 1 1/2 years ago, and never for one moment would I consider taking care of him any kind of a burden. Even if it turned out (thank goodness it didn't) that our world was turned upside-down would I ever think of him that way. And I certainly wouldn't ever say anything like that to anyone I cared about, even if they were stressing me out because of it.

I agree with all the above who said it's time to cut bait with that person. I know some people who just want it to be a perfect world and don't like to hear about the bad times. That's usually because they haven't gone through anything drastic themselves. I have a few in my family. Please put that statement out of your mind and concentrate on getting through the moment.
