Check with your airline about the meds. You might need to carry them in their original containers. Some airlines may require documentation from the prescribing physician.

Snacks are fine....sandwiches, anything. Your flight won't take very long but it's a good idea to have a little stash of something. Don't take anything stinky, though, lol.

Once you get past the TSA checkpoint, you can buy drinks to carry on board. I've taken empty travel cups to fill with ice and water before boarding.

If any of the prescription medications are controlled substance you will want to have proof of prescription with you. So you can prove you have them legally. I always have my prescription bottles with me.

The limitations on what you can have relate as much to the security screening as the airplane.

There's a limit to the volume of liquids you can take through screening. You can't take full water or drink bottles, as an example. Buy them at the food counters after security. Whatever you buy you can take on the plane. Or, take an empty bottle and fill it afterwards at a drinking fountain. If you're taking a sandwich, just put it in a clear baggie and then (I would) take it out of the purse and put it into the xray tray next to your purse. Sealed cookies and candies in a package I wouldn't worry about. You probably don't need much (unless it's to sooth a nervous stomach), it's a short trip.

Have a great time! Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people fly safely everyday. Don't expect it to feel and sound like sitting in your living room, it's different but there's nothing to worry about. Get a window seat, enjoy the views and enjoy the experience.

Regarding drugs -

Over my nearly 750K lifetime miles, including a lot of international travel, I've never been asked about carry on pills that occasionally have included pain pills and are often not in their original bottles. Keep your pills in your day by day thing and don't give it another thought.

TSA's job isn't to apprehend drug dealers and the airlines don't care what you have so long as it isn't flammable or suitable for use as a weapon. If you're flying up from South America and have plastic covered powder bundles with you or in your luggage, it's a different story.

Airlines really don't care about drugs, so long as the cockpit crew haven't taken any. In fact, every airline sells a very additive drug to passengers during the beverage service.

I've taken snacks on the plane. You can buy the individual bags of chips or snack mixes. Last month I filled up a plastic cup with yogurt covered pretzels and put them in my purse, no problem. Because we were flying in the morning, I also brought some zucchini bread I had just baked for breakfast, and I took a week of my medications and vitamins in a daily pill box in my carry on bagâ¦.. No problem. Liquids are the big thing but if you check a bag with liquids, no problem as to amounts. Aerosol cans (hair spray etc. are not recommended even in checked bags) unless it's a very small can. You do want to carry on your meds, jewelry, dry cosmetics, everything else can go in a checked bag.

Your meds in the 7-day box are fine -- you don't even need to pull the case out to show the TSA workers. They see them every day. (In fact, I just had a flight over the holiday and my pill box was in my tote bag. It went through the X-ray machine, no questions asked. I've never thought it was necessary to take it out, and nobody with TSA told me otherwise!)

Don't give it a second thought -- I've also never traveled with the original pill bottles or the drugstore prescription sheets usually stapled to the bag that the pill bottles are in. Especially when the lines need to keep moving, they don't focus on stuff like that. And I doubt most TSA agents could tell a "controlled substance" pill from anything else.

(The only med-related thing they've checked of mine is when I was carrying either insulin or a similar injectible packed with ice packs in a fold-up cooler about 4 months ago -- the TSA guy saw it in the X-ray machine and said he realized what it was but still needed to unzip the cooler and check. Easy-peasy -- he didn't even need to open the boxes the medicine was in.)

Remember that if you're planning to carry any of your liquid health-and-beauty aids (bath soap, mouthwash, shampoo) in your carry-on bag, they need to be in a small, clear Ziploc bag. You're supposed to put them in one of the bins going through the X-ray machine -- but, this past trip, I actually forgot to pull it out of my zippered tote bag. Nobody noticed!

Snacks are fine -- in fact, I'd say that bringing some Ziplocs of what you like is the BEST thing you can do! If I'm going to spend $2.50 or $3 for a bottle of water or juice after I go through security (yes, that stuff is expensive there!), I'm not spending another $3 or so for a bag of overpriced nuts or candy or dried fruit there, too! (Also, I'm picky about what I eat, and to tell the truth, airport food either in the little kiosks or at the restaurants is overpriced and not so tasty!)

One other piece of advice, even tho you didn't ask about it: It's easier if you wear slip-on shoes or shoes that don't require a lot of refastening, because you will have to take them off and put them in the bin that goes through the X-ray machine. There are benches just past security where you can sit and put your shoes back on, but I just prefer slip-ons instead of having to sit and retie my sneakers.

Don't be nervous! Flying will get you where you need to be FASTER so you can enjoy your time there! (I do hope you're traveling for fun/family/friends instead of something sad!)

Tiny bags? I've taken Subway sandwiches. The time from leaving here to boarding can be 4-5 hours, I'm hungry! Enjoy your trip.

Yes, drinks AFTER the TSA checkpoint. My son got pulled aside in customs for something suspicious in his backpack. Bottles of water. Ugh.

If you have liquid toiletries, fill 3 ounce containers with what you need. Then put all toiletries in 1 - 1 qt ziploc. Don't take full size toothpaste tube - get a tiny one.

Drugs in your med box, left in suitcase/purse are fine.

I agree with slip on shoes.

Even partially filled water/beverage bottles won't be allowed through security.

If you take a laptop, it needs to be taken out of it's luggage and put in a separate plastic tray for xrays. Ipads, however, don't have to come out.

Lighters - don't take more than 2 if you take any.

Keep your boarding pass handy. You'll have to show it at security.

Most importantly - have a great trip!

My friends luggage was search EVERY time she flew. I watched as they inspected it one time and I understood why. She packed everything in square black zipper containers, like cosmetic bags. When they opened her bag it was full of these and I could see it would look explosives on the scanners.

All good advice....I travel a lot and am finding each airport do things different....Flying out of Pgh. sometimes I don't even have to go through the xray scanner, flying out of Ft. Myers, have to do both, the scanner and then they use the wand... Some will ask that you remove your jacket, some don't.....And now, if you're over a certain age, you don't have to remove your shoes, which is a blessing for us "older" chicks....
As far as taking snacks, wouldn't travel without them....My last trip was to Reno and I made up goodie bags for my sister and grand daughter and had them in my carry on....

Funny, I have never given this a thought. I take a variety of supplements and usually just throw them in a small plastic bag and put it in my carry on tote bag. I do put my one prescription med in it's original container. I have never been stopped.

I agree about the slip on shoes. One time they gave my husband a free pass, which meant he could go right through. We really didn't understand this and anyway, what good was it since he had to wait for me anyway?

I would ask for an aisle seat. This way you can get up to use the restroom as much as you would like without feeling you are pestering someone.

Watch out for suspicious stuff you might have stuffed in your pockets. There is a limit to the blade length of a pocket knife, and these days, any knife might not be allowed. Check before hand with the airline.

If you carry on a computer, tablet, cell phone, etc., insure that it is fully charged. They may require you to boot up a laptop to prove it is a working device. Malfunctioning computers in need of repair may be confiscated. Its a good idea to have a spare, charged, battery in your computer bag. If you have a delay, you might wish to entertain yourself with your laptop and that spare battery could come in handy if you suddenly need to get into the check-in line.

Yes, if the blades are less than 4 inches.
