Shelly, thanks for the site. Here's the way to post a link when you start a new thread. You go to the site them copy the whole address in the line that tells what it is. You know, the http:// address. Next you come here and tell us you found some good recipes. Then you click on Preview Message. When you get to the Preview page there are two spaces at the bottom. One says " Optinal Link URL " In that space you paste the address of the site that you copied earlier.

Just below that is a place that says " Name of the Link ". You can type whatever you want in that line that helps to describe what the site is about.

Here is a link that might be useful: good recipes

Some Neat Schreiner's Photos

Mike, Thanks so much for posting a link from our blog. The images are from my brother's trip last year to visit Schreiner's. My parents and he have had the pleasure of being out to their gardens, unfortunately I am the only one who hasn't been out to see them. We have been purchasing from them for quite a few years now and they are really great people that are very nice to work with. Thanks for the hat tip on the photos. We also have a selection of our iris photos on Flickr and will be updating more soon. Please check out our website if you get the opportunity or come out to see us. We aren't the size of Schreiner's by any means but we love what we do. Best, Jeremy Here is a link that might be useful: Check our Pittsgrove Farms photo stream

Check out this neat plant key website I found!

BTW, you don't have to know latin at all to use a key, and without using a key, you might have to look at hundreds of pictures and descriptions on sites like "hortiplex on this gardenweb site, the plants database at usda, and NCSU plants database" to be able to identify a particular plant. Also, some of these sites (Dave's Garden is a good example) have a lot of errors that might throw you off even if you did find relating information. Using efloras is pretty easy once you go through it once. You just have to think of the entries as flowcharts. If you are interested in how to use it and need help, I'd be glad to answer questions. Basically, here's how it works: 1. Does the plant have characteristic A? If yes, go to 2. If not, go to 4. 2. Does the plant have characteristic B? If yes, the plant is Plant I. If not, go to 3. 3. Does the plant have characteristic C? If yes, the plant is Plant II. If not, it's Plant III. 4. Does the plant have characteristic D? If yes, it's Plant IV. If not, it's Plant V.

Easy! Cook bacon til crisp, remove, drain, crumble and set aside. Brown onions in bacon grease until they carmelize, remove and set aside. Clean and halve brussels and throw them into the bacon grease along with a bit of butter. Saute until you get a nice brown sear on them and then add a bit of chicken stock, cover and steam until tender crisp. Add reserved bacon and onions, season to taste with salt (or garlic salt) and pepper. Continue cooking to desired tenderness and to allow flavors to blend. I modified this reipe from a French Chef that I worked with. He used the very thick slab bacon (that was almost like a smoked ham) chopped, added onions and lightly browned both together and then just added the steamed brussels along with butter, salt and pepper. Good either way.

Makes a great buffet dish! Serves 6 1/4 cup olive oil 3/4 cup finely chopped sweet onions 1/2 teaspoon sugar 1 1/2 cups long-grain white rice 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon white pepper 1 cup beef broth 1 cup water 1 tablespoon chopped pimento Heat the oil in a heavy saucepan over medium heat. Add the onions and the sugar. Cook, stirring, until the onions are golden brown, about 5 minutes. Add the rice, salt and white pepper, and cook the mixture, stirring, until the rice begins to brown a little. Add the broth and water, and boil the mixture, uncovered, over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook, covered, for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender. Add the pimentos, fluff the rice, and let stand for a few minutes before serving.

Shelley, both my parents were born & raised in Wisconsin so I consider it my "ancestral home", lol. I looked at the site and already like the recipe for granqueso crab cakes -- never would have thought of that, but it sure sounds good.

I lurk here more than I lurk there, so thanks for posting it here :-)

Shelley,
I don't know how to post a link either! However, I went to the Wisconsin cheese site and you are absolutely right--good recipes! I'm copying a couple of them to make next week, and as soon as I get to the grocery, I'll be able to try more of the recipes.
Keep posting--you're finding good things to share!

Shelley,
You ought to go back to the cooking forum and read the other responses to your post. I think you'll find them heartwarming.
For some reason, the milk of human kindness has started to go sour on the cooking forum lately. I'm sure it will turn sweet again soon.
