Introducing Jennie!

Friday afternoon I went to WalMart to do some shopping and the county humane society had some of their "time's almost up" animals there. This little girl caught my eye from across the parking lot and it was love at first sight! LOL! the volunteers there told me that they like to bring the animals to these places because they are the ones that are so often overlooked at the shelter. They are older and not really "cute" and fuzzy. Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder that's for sure because I think she is beautiful! Her personality shines. Not sure how old she is but we are guessing 2 years or so. Really don't know what breeds are involved. She has the markings and smile of a pug but also looks a bit like a 25 pound chihuaua. Who knows?

So we went to the shelter, filled out the paperwork, got approval and now she is living the good life! Sedona and her get along great, she has her own pillow on our bed and everyone seems to be adjusting wonderfully. She is house trained (even though her paperwork said she was picked up as a stray). She had just been spayed and given all her innoculations, wormed, tested negative for heartworms, put on a flea/tick prevention and heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee includes a wellness check with my vet and we have an appointment for this coming Friday.

Only thing I see so far that I will have to keep an eye on is she likes the sugar snap peas in the garden. Caught her standing on her hind legs and pulling them off the vine.

This worked out perfect since DH will be working the night shift for the next three weeks so he will be home during the day for awhile just to keep an eye on things. But I don't forsee any problems. She fits in perfectly and Sedona just loves her!

Congrats to You!!

I'm not sure about the heritage, but she is absolutely gorgeous!! Sounds like she is adapting to her new home, and will be quite happy!

I myself cannot resist pound pups either, and stay away from the shelter so that I will not be tempted to bring anything home with me.

She's adorable. Blessings on your head for saving her sweet life!

I so want to simply gather up all the unwanted and unloved dogs and bring them home. I wish every dog in the world could feel the love and care we lavish on our mutts. And don't get me started on little kids, too. I see/hear so many moms being cross and saying hurtful things to little kids. I want to drag them home, too. (And this from a woman who has never once had the desire to reproduce!)

Creeping Jenny(Lysimachia nummilaria) is a vigorously growing groundcover that has a golden yellow to light green color, depending on the amount of sun. In summer it produces pretty little yellow flowers. It grows very rapidly, and therefore is also very invasive! But trailers are easy to pull up and cut off. I planted only one 4 " planter in a sunny area that I wanted to be covered rather quickly, and this busy little creeper spread like wildfire, covering abt. 4 ft. by 4 ft in one season ( it would have spread more if I had let it). The following year I transplanted some of creeping jenny and some vinca under a tree where nothing wants to grow. Creeping jenny took over, except for a few branches of the vinca which had a hard time establishing itself and spread much slower. The yellowish green of creeping jenny may intermingle nicely with the darker ivy and vinca that you already have. I would probably plant vinca or ivy closer to the neighbours lot, and creeping jenny further away. But be warned, creeping jenny is a fast growing invasive plant!

Jenni, the little dog, Sushi, couldn't seem to get the house training habit so I found him a new home with friends who had 3 cats and 2 Corgis. He fit in perfectly there and is doing pretty well with his house training. They changed his name to Lui. Mango's name was Lola before I got her. Yes. a house full of pets is a happy house.

Hi, my name is Lori from suburban Chicago. I have to admit I am a bit glassy-eyed from reading this thread...it will take a while for me to remember you all. I am glad to meet you and enjoyed reading your stories. I laughed when I read about the Hookers... I used to tell people I was a drug dealer (I am a Pharmacist, part-time, large chain) I am closing in on 50, married to my college sweetheart (27 years) have 2 sons, 18 & 17. My first memories of sewing are in 8th grade. My mom was an awesome seamstress, but I mostly leaned on my own. I did some garments through high school and college, left sewing for a while, came back when I had kids. I found less pleasure in sewing for boys so I started sewing for my nieces (dresses, doll clothes). Then my college roommate (home ec major) sparked my interest in quilting. My first quilt was for a beloved pre-K teacher who's husband was being transfered to MN. It wasn't a "quality" product...I had the kids (3 & 4 year olds) and their parents to my house to make quilt blocks using fabric paint and who knows what...then I pieced it and stitched in the ditch. That started it all! I will admit here, although most who know me, know this about me.. I am a fabric junkie. I have yet to complete a successful rehab of my addiction. I don't think I own a quilt that I have made. (UFOs don't count) The pre-K teacher's quilt got me started on a series of teacher's quilts. I made a quilt for each teacher (through 6th grade) when my youngest son finished the grade. Both sons went to a small Lutheran school, one son right after the other.. I kind of felt like it was combat pay for the teacher, surviving both boys. I had a common theme for these quilts, Each year I would trace the hands of the students in the class and formulate a quilt around the choosen theme of the school year. My youngest son transfered schools after 6th grade. I had planned on his 8th grade quilt to have had a current handprint and an "original" handprint (from JK or whenever a student arrived at the school), but that quilt never came to be. I found the GardenWeb when I was doing a kitchen rennovation a couple of years ago.(a 20+ year in the making project) I stumbled upon the quilt forum when I did a google search on longarm machines. I recently purchased a Tin Lizzie (used from Ebay) I haven't recieved it yet, a bit nervous about it. I own an old singer (was my high school graduation gift),an antique treadle machine, a babylock serger (LOVE IT)and my workhorse Brother Ult 2001. I also love machine embroidery (many of my quilts have some embroidery somewhere) and digitizing. It's kind of amazing for someone who never thought she had an artistic bone in her body.(Math and Science -yes). I am currently working on: 1. a quilt for an assistant pastor who is retiring. (should be working on that right now...) 2. college for son A (senior in high school) 3. college for son B (junior in high school) 4. sorority items for nieces and friend's daughters... found I loved to make gift items when my oldest niece joined a sorority her freshman year. I have made tote bags, pillowcases, night lights, sweatshirts, pillows, photo albums..My favorite is the quilt I made for my niece (picture in the gallery) Notice missing from this list... housework... never on my to do list if I can help it. Awww Jennie looks like a doll! I can see the resemblance to Mac our Chihuahua. Except for the black around the mouth that is....I am not sure if that would be the pug?? I don't see much of a Pug in her myself.
Whatever she is she's a lucky gal to get to come and live with you! I hope you have a long and wonderful life together!!

Jennie is beautiful ( so is Sedona ). She looks like she has a sweet disposition. I'm glad you found each other and that she now has a loving forever home. Thank you for giving a shelter dog a home. You are all blessed.

Aww...she holds her little head and ears up so proudly. I don't see any Pug, either, but she's quite the cutie. Thank you for giving her a good home.

Twinkie and I saw a dog today tied up out in a yard, no shelter, no water or food dish in sight. I could have just stopped, turned her loose, and probably burned their house down!!!! (Well, maybe the arson is a no-go, but I could have done the rest easily.)

I think she looks a little bit like a Great Dane with those ears and snout? Or German Shepard, but based on her size she must be mixed with something much smaller?? Just a guess, but she sure is sweet looking! You are so nice to adopt her!

Thank you for rescuing her Tannatonk. Jennie is a little sugar, that's why she's drawn to the sugar snap peas. :) It's wonderful she's fitting in so well and quickly too.

She's beautiful, Betsy! This must be why you were able to walk away from that yorkie/mix puppy last week. Jennie was already waiting for you to discover her.

this sooo warms my heart...Thank you Betsy for taking that sweet little girl home with you...I'm glad the two are getting along well!
I'm not really a good judge of lineage...who cares though...she's a doll and is definitely a keeper...

Our three collies split a can of greenbeans on their doggie food everynight...the vet recommended them to get some weight off and it's done the trick!

She's just beautiful, Betsy, and I see a little Dane in her first picture, too. It's nice that she and Sedona get along, too, that makes adopting another one so much easier!

WOW! Thanks for all the kind words! I've been having computer problems and am just now able to get back to this post.

Jennie really is a love. And I really don't care what breeds are in her makeup - I'm just curious. I can't get over how smart she is. Tell her something once and that seems to do it. She is very eager to do the right thing. She gets so excited at times while playing with Sedona that she will grab Sedona's tail and pull really hard. Poor Sedona doesn't know how to handle that but last night Sedona made her stop so I think that's worked out now.

She has quite a cough that seems to happen when she wakes up. I'll have the vet check that on Friday. And she snores - loudly. But we don't care. I just take it to mean that she is finally comfortable enough to sleep soundly knowing that we will take care of her.
