Looks like full-body scanning is in our travel

I think we'll be seeing more and more of the full body scanning in airports. How do you feel about it? Personally, I don't care if they scan me, but I wonder if there is any radiation in the process or any other harmful side-effects.

Won't bother me a bit. Beats "scanning" the bottom
of the Ocean looking for my dead body after the
plane explodes there.

And...that guy needs to be executed. We are way too
soft on these jerks. They want to die for their cause -
I say, let's help them along.

My opinion only guys - you don't have to agree. :)

No 'pravacy violation' fears here either. IF the full-scan machines will actually detect chemicals, that would certainly make more sense than running everyone's shoes through a machine that CANNOT detect chemicals!

Watching the world's citizens shuffling shoeless through long pseudo-security checks tells me Al-Quaida has won, and they've done it without firing a shot since Twin Towers.

Thank you for your replies. Richard - of the two pictures of S. regla, Huntington BG apperas to have the form I'm seeking - upright and open. I'm looking for one that grows 6 or more feet tall, like the one in the picture I shared. Ours grows on the north side of our house in amended clay and gets sun only in summer. And, the S. melissodora is beautiful, but I'm seeking a Salvia that blooms in warm colors (orange, red, yellow) to contrast with other nearby plants with blooms in the blue range. KermitC - I believe I have S. flocculosa which I purchased at a plant sale several years go and it was labeled 'Rio Bamba'. It's currently growing in a spot that gets only afternoon sun. It is 3-4 feet tall with open sprawling growth -- do you think it should grow much taller than that in full sun? Research of S. fulgens tells me it may not grow as tall as I'd like - 6' or more feet tall.

I enjoy the body sprays in my shower which are temperature controlled by the same thermostatic valve that the showerheads are connected through. You simply need to install a temperature control valve that is large enough to supply all the emitters you're likely to have on at the same time. Either a 3/4" valve or a 1" valve, depending on flow rates of your various emitters. That being said, if you live in a place with high water rates or a high sewer tax that is determined by water usage, you'll want to be conscious of what you have going on in a shower. Shower heads are limited by federal regulation to dispensing no more than 2.5 gallons per minute. Oddly, there's no restriction to the number of shower heads that you're permitted in a shower, so technically, you can blow through as much water as you want. Showering with a single shower head will use a maximum of 2.5 gallons per minute. If you've got a shower head and 3 body sprays going simultaneously, you're now going to be using 10 gallons per minute (2.5 gals per emitter). At that rate, a 10 minute shower is going to send 100 gallons down the drain. It doesn't take long for the costs associated with a luxury shower to really add up. You also need to keep this in mind when sizing your water heater because you'll be using 4 times as much hot water, too. As much as I enjoy my body sprays, I now limit their use to a Sunday morning treat -- for only a portion of my shower. I simply can't justify their use on a daily basis. It just seems wasteful.

terriks- your solution post made me laugh. My nephew flew from Seatle to LA area and back. He went through normal metal detectors and that was it. I guess it depends on where you go. I think the idea about what to wear is a smart one and I agree that it would be more comfortable too. I wonder if the pins in my toes from my bunionectomy 20yrs ago would cause a second look if I went through the scanner?? I guess they could see the old scars on my toes and see that they have been there a while. I too wonder about the pilots and crew having to go through security all of the time. Of course if I were a bad person and knew they did not have to be screened I would look at using them to carry out my evil doings. I did ask my 13yr old about being patted down and she was not as freaked as I thought she would be. She said she was not thrilled at the thought but did at least understand why they have to do it. She did think that frisking a baby was weird but again, understood the need. I still feel bad for the people who have to do the frisking. I am sure when they first started their careers they did not think this would become such a common part of their jobs. But it also gives them lots of stuff to talk about at the dinner table.

I love to travel. My husband and I have been taking trips in our RV for the past 3 years. A year ago we bought a 40 foot coach and have put 24,000 miles on it so far. We take our cats with us and they just love it. I think it's great that we get to sleep in our own beds, I cook our meals like usual and we do our own thing. We camp near our family when we visit them otherwise we are out seeing our beautiful country. We are getting ready to leave out on June 1 for a six week trip up through the PAC NW and then go into Montana and up to Banff Canada. This trip will be almost 7,000 miles. I have had the opportunity to meet friends from the KT and MH forums while on our trips. It is a great way to travel even with the high cost of fuel. I always say you can't take it with you and we are not getting any younger. We are going to enjoy ourselves for as long as we can.

I don't mind about the body scan, if it can improve security.

However, in my opinion, pregnant ladies should be checked individually, without radiation, for safety's sake.

I think some people are modest and would feel embarrassed, but not me. I have a rod as well, hgl. I'd like to see the scan myself, but it would be hard to look and be scanned at the same time. LOL!

Scanning might be easier than the process we go through now.

I had a full body scan going from Hong Kong into Mainland China. Made you stand on a box while they went all over you with a metal looking thing.
Plus you had to pass by a guard at the door holding a machine gun.

DS flew yesterday and said the only thing different at security was a lot more TSAs.

Oh Glenda I burst out laughing! But there really is nothing funny about a guy with a m.g. It just caught me by surprise. Maybe they shoot you if you have anything hidden on your body. You've had some experiences in your travels, haven't you?

As long as the scanning is used on everyone, not just on people selected at random, I'm all for it. I would excuse pregnant women though. Scanning is far more fair than what goes on now.

I don't know what it is about me, but I am always singled out and patted down. That's embarassing and I really hate getting touchy, feely with strangers. I'm 64 years old, overweight, white hair, walk a bit stiffly because of bad knees. But the past few years, whenever we fly, I get the full body treatment. Not my DH.

So, as long as everyone is treated equally, I'm fine with it. Told DH that I get the feeling people didn't check this rotter out properly because they were afraid of being accused of being racist. How many more signals did they require before they check someone?

The UK refused to give him a student visa. He had no luggage. His own embassy had him under surveillance. Did he need to hand them a note saying he had explosives on him? Just shows to go ya how almost useless our security measures really are. The only people impressed by our security measures are those of us who aren't a problem.

I think the full body scan for everyone is the way to go. If people don't like it, then don't fly. It is not a constitutional right to fly. It would be much quicker and thorough than getting half undressed shuffling through the security line. I also don't have a problem profiling people.

I have no problem with it at all either. I agree cbtexas - no problem with profiling people either. I think they need to start doing it.

I don't think the level of radiation is a problem.
"These systems use low energy and very low doses of radiation. It is very tightly controlled by government standards. The earth and sun both exposes us to similar low doses all day long. One scan is less than about one hour of the natural radiation you would get while you are asleep."

I always get 'wanded'. I have two artificial hips, so of course that means the metal detector beeps. Uh-huh, this Senior DAR-type is a real likely threat. What a Waste of Time and Money. (But, we'd be paying unemployment benefits to more people if there were no TSA.)

I think the TSA people deserve a laugh every now and again....I know they would get a kick out of my body.

I agree....flying is not a right and if it bothers you to be scanned or whatever, take the train.
