I broke it........

It was a bowl....the bottom of my punch bowl set.

It came with two bowls....one sat upside down and the big one sat on top of it. It was a cut glass look....

I bought it at either Kresge's or Woolworth's in 1966, just soon after we were married. I paid a whopping $3.00 plus probably 2 or 3% tax....

Someone sat it in the cabnet on top of a stack of metal enamal ware dishes I have...they don't set real flat and when I open the door...out it came right at me...

I had shards of glass all over the place. From the kitchen sink, clear across the kitchen to the dinning area..nearly 20 feet of it I had to clean up.

Nice start to my day...poohey

Too bad. You've enjoyed it for so many years. I know just how you feel. Kinda like losing an old friend.
Can you still use the punch bowl?

yes I can still use the punch bowl...it just looked so pretty sitting up high on the other bowl.

Hey Deb, its pay back time :) I bought 5 Big windows with pebbled glass at auction a few weeks ago for $15 total! Sorry, havent learned how to put pix up yet. These are windows from biology lab at Univ. of Illinois they said. My first thought was a hanging piece maybe with colored glass, Or maybe a table or 3? I have lots of good ideas for things, but usually procrastinate because I'm simply not very good at putting things together. My husband was great at building & helping me, but he died last Nov. so I just need to do it myself. Any other ideas from y'all? The simpler the better. These pebbled windows are not as pretty as your shattered glass is tho and I think will need back lighting to potentialize-is that a word?- what ever I end up doing with them. Oh, one thought occurred to me, you are adding glass to the old glass then grout--that's going to add weight. Did you consider this? Yes, I also tend to worry abt stuff like that too. Aarrgh. That is cool! I would love to know if you get as many blooms as you had from previous spikes. I wonder if it will be the same or fewer due to the energy that it's putting into regrowing the spike. I've had a spike that I broke that didn't come completely off. i clipped it back up to the stake as straight as I could and it continued with it's bloom cycle. No buds blasted at all. One of the many reasons that I love orchids.

It will be able to bloom again. You should try to take it back and exchange it, beg for a replacement. Alternatively you *could* learn to grow it but that would involve a lot of hassles. I don't grow that kind but I bet there is some info about them in the net. Possibly on this very site! There used to be a FAQ on this page. Maybe there still is? good luck

Is the ball of soil it's in hard? It sounds like the mix has hardened off & the water may be running out the bottom w/out actually getting into the rootball. This often happens w/ Xmas & Thanksgiving Cacti if left in their original mix long enough for it to harden (tends to happen w/ super peaty mixes). I'd try to soak it in a basin & see if it will drink from the bottom.

Oh Patti! I am so sorry!

I think yours is just like the one that I bought this summer at a garage sale, my mother had one, and I bought this one because it was like my mothers! I am sure she got hers in the early 60's also.

I am so sorry it broke, and sure hope, you found all the glass splinters. Just be careful while walking around barefoot!

Like Sandy said, keep an eye out at garage and estate sales. You might be able to replace it.

Oh, what a shame! Be sure to look on Ebay, Patti, you can find almost anything there.

All that glass, what a mess. And so dangerous, too. Be careful!

I'm so sorry that happened. Try Ebay. I can usually find replacements for things that break that way. Wow- $3 in 1966 could buy a punchbowl!

Ugh. We just broke a glass the other day and I found tiny pieces of glass even after a second sweeping - so be careful!

Maybe you could post a picture of it and we could all be on the lookout for one for you. I know that the little thrift shop in my town gets all kinds of goodies like that.

I guess I could get the bowl down...it is in the pantry, back in a cubby on the top shelf...and behind other things...lol...it would take a step stool to get it down.

Lol- don't worry about it- I saw your other post so I think I have an idea of what to look for. I have a friend who volunteers at the local Habitat store and she will keep her eyes open for me. If we find one we can get a photo to you- she says that she can hold it for me if we find the right one.

Be careful cleaning up. Sweep, sweep, sweep, and then go over the floor with a damp cloth. I once stepped on a small piece of glass and it got imbedded in the ball of my foot. It hurt for years, but finally worked itself out.

trish...I promise ....after Christmas I'll take a picture..I'm just so busy right now...

Today I am sewing 6 "Frosty the snowman" Hats. They are Decorations. (Full hat size...I can wear it...) They are gifts for my cousins...and ME.

Ohhh, Patti I'm sorry you broke the bowl, but wish it had happened a few months ago. I'm afraid that we threw one out like that from my mom's house. Sure sounds like it.

My SO and I took a trip and ended up with a room with a hot tub. We got the Tub all filed up nice and I got in with my Glass of Wine. Then my SO kicked it over onto the tiled floor. We were both barefooted trying to clean up glass. Before it was all over the floor looked like someone had been slaughtered. I wonder what the room service thought about all the bloody towels.

Patti, I got married in January, 1966 and received a bunch of
Early American (name of the pattern) by Anchor Hocking glass dishes. I am wondering if that is the pattern?

If so, here is a base for the Early American punch bowl on ebay.

If it is the Early American pattern, and you search, you can find the whole set listed right now for 9.99 and no one is bidding on it.

There was another, similar set that just sat upon a smaller bowl, but I don't remember the pattern for sure. I used to find Early American glass pieces all the time in thrift shops and collected it for awhile, until I got too much to deal with.
