Think of all the improvements in every appliance, dishwashers that scrub, refrigerators with ice makers and filtered water, clothes washers with soak cycle, dryers that let you know they are dry. You name it and they have improved it, except equipment for womenÂs hair. Go back to the 60s. You washed your hair, rolled it on rollers (with a little dippty do) and sat under a dryer. While under the dryer you could read a book, paint your nails, write a letter or watch TV (if you turned the volume up). You then took the rollers out, teased it a little, not, teased it a lot and sprayed it with a gallon of hair spray (Breck strong hold was the best). You were done for the day. Actually you were done for the week. Women in southern states had a competition going on with the biggest hair. We all know Texas won. But at least Georgia women beat Alabama women. No small victory there. Now 40 years later, you wash your hair, get out the blow dryer and a metal brush (the one that heats up when hot air is applied and will burn the crap off your scalp). Now remember this brush only holds 16 strands of hair and you donÂt want it dry until the each strand is on the brush. This takes about 30 minutes and two sore arms. Wait your arenÂt through, got to get the curling iron out and wait for it to heat up. The curling iron is the most dangerous piece of equipment in my house. Did I mention how the cords hangs on the cabinet doors? When you put 12 stands of hair in the curling iron, you have to slide the iron to the bottom of the strands. If you donÂt, there will be a big dent in those 12 strands, looks like fried hair. This takes about 1 hour. By the time your finished with the last 12 strands, the first 12 are straight again. Next you spray your hair with light hair spray (Breck watered down with a new name). It is a must to brush out the hair spray. The natural look is in. Yea, Right. Remember this is just your hair. I wonÂt go into the makeup subject.

LOL.. this is great! Coincidence too, because just yesterday, I was wishing I had my old hair dryer with the bonnet and long flexible tube! It was much more convenient IMO. You're right, we could sit and do other things, while drying. Funny about the hair spray. I used AquaNet.

I was thinking of going to a beauty supply store, to see if
they had that old time hair dryer.

Tuesday I love the plain cotton panels, too. I might reconsider the "floor length, pinch pleated" route. While "Country Cottage" wasn't my first choice, the room, its colors, the floor, and the moldings and trim are saying "I yam what I yam!" GrayWings I agree totally, if I choose floor length drapes, they'll touch the floor, dog hair and all! The Swiffer is my friend. We're going to test the bed in the corner tomorrow, but I don't know how that will work with my need for large end tables. It's certainly worth a try, though. Now, two more curtain concerns. (1) If I go with cotton panels, similar to Tuesday's suggestion, could they be lined? Should they be lined? Can they be hung without the tiebacks? Could the short, plain, cotton panels be layered over a patterned lace panel? Could the cotton panels be a color or print, and the lace undertreatment be ivory? (2) If I chose to hang ceiling-to-floor pleated drapes, could they be layered over sill-length lace or sheer panels? The lace/sheer panels would fit from the top of the window trim to the apron. The drapes would be ceiling to floor. Would any of these ideas be off or weird?

It says the parents will have joint legal custody and share in the responsibility and confer in good faith on matters concerning health, education, & welfare of the child. The parents must confer in making decisions on the following matters: Enrollment in or leaving a particular private or public school or daycare center. Out of Country or Out of State travel. In all other matters in exercising joint legal custody, the parents may act alone, as long as the action does not conflict with any orders concerning the physical custody of the children. There is also a 'special decision making' section that reads: The father will be responsible for making decisions regarding the following: 1. Participation in school & extra curricular activities during the school year. 2. Non major or routine medical care. (Of course, the activities cannot be on BM's time, and apparently she has a problem with medical care on her time too) That's all it says regarding decision making, so he really can't tell her anything. He has primary physical custody & BM has three weekends a month, so it isn't any different than a non custodial father taking his child to get their hair chopped off... my oldest son's father did that several times to piss me off. When me would send my son back with a knit beanie, I knew what he'd done. He even had little lines shaved into the side, just above my son's ears. The result ended up that my son was teased because the kids in my son's school thought it was weird. It was a trend in the town where my son's father lived but had not been picked up here by the kids and he was made fun of for being different. In my SD's case, (or maybe moreso when it comes to girls just because they usually care more about their looks than boys do, in my experience anyways) it should be on the person that has primary responsibility for the care of the child since it would be easy for a NCP to take a kid to get a high maintenance hairstyle and then they expect the CP to keep it maintained? It's really not fair to expect the CP to now have to buy special hair products or spend extra time to maintain a style that the NCP wanted and only sees a couple of times a month. With older kids, it would be on the kid to maintain it themselves, but it was a challenge to teach my SD how to pull her hair into ponytail... that's why DH took her to get it layered. She didn't want to wear a ponytail but it was the only way to keep it from looking like she didn't comb it. I don't have time to flat iron it in the morning and she said she loved it layered. Maybe she is just going along with both parents and who knows what the hell she wants? All I know is that now it's going to take extra work to send her off looking presentable and I have to listen to DH complain about it.

Has anyone else had the problem that you can never dry/style it the same way the stylist does while you're in the chair? My hair usually looks fine when I walk out but I can never replicate the look at home, then I start to see the problems. Why won't she undercut the bottom layer as I asked?? I know she takes a tad off, but I can't really see what she's doing at the time. I've been going to Supercuts for many years and try different people, but so far have only had one good one whom I haven't seen since. I tried a different salon and paid 3-4 times as much, only to have pretty much the same cut. My daughter will get to trim my hair today when she visits. :)

A guy in my daughter's HOA tried to "ban" my vehicle from parking anywhere in the community other than inside DD's garage because it was an "eyesore." It was an inexpensive Ford, about 10 years old, but no dings, dents, or dirt anywhere. He was over ruled and forced to apologize to me, wherein he mentioned a couple of times how angry his wife was at him, haha! The last HOA community I lived in made us fix two shingles that appeared (to them) to be "out of alignment." Oh, did I mention it was the roof of our DOG HOUSE? Never again. Never. Again. Onto the topic at hand. I currently have a vented hood of indeterminate brand. I'm pretty sure it's the original hood in my 37 yr old home, and I'm positive it's never been cleaned (until I moved in). If you recall, I bought this house from hoarders who never, ever cleaned their house. Even after I paid people to clean the whole range (electric coil stovetop), including the hood, it is the most vile, disgusting thing I've ever seen. It's also frighteningly loud. I'm certain it doesn't pull up anything; not grease, not odors, nothing. When I remodel the kitchen, I'll most likely stay with a vented hood since there's already the hole in the roof. I would reconsider if there wasn't a way to use the same hole. I know this topic has been passionately argued over for years on this forum. And I mean passionate! But I've had the recirculating vents before and, at least in my case, have found them adequate (please don't execute me at dawn for saying that!). There are a couple of secrets to keep them working well, and I assume this would also apply to OTR recirculating micros. First, many of them recirculate the air through a charcoal filter. You have to replace that filter once in a while! :-) Just like furnace or A/C filters, if you never replace them, they get dirty and cease to clean the air; in fact, they make it worse after a while. Second, while you're at it, go ahead and clean the other parts too. If you rent, make the management replace the filter when it's due. For now, my "vent" is the two windows in my kitchen. I happen to think my cooking smells good, so the windows are basically to keep a very sensitive smoke alarm from going off. Russ, where can I order one of those pot roast pillows?

And all the hairspray is much too sticky these days. It's extra or super hold.

Not so for me. Truly, I do remember the old days. And my hair is so stubborn that even with a perm my hair won't hold a curl more than a few hours. And heaven help the person who touched my hair. I've hit more than one person for that offense.

A year and a half ago I finally "discovered" a cut that allows me to use a hair dryer and the palm of my hand to style my hair in just a couple of minutes using only a dab of mousse. And with the new tousled/messy look it doesn't bother me (too much) if the wind blows a bit. And DH thinks it's sexy/hot.

I want my old hood hair dryer back too.

I have naturally curly hair. I use to be able to shake my head and curls would do just fine and I would let it dry naturally. But, since I have herniated disc now, I can't shake my head. LOL!

If I don't use mousse it will be a fuzz ball like the old afro do.

Ahhh that does bring back memories!LOL I wear my hair really short now and all I do is blow dry it and "finger style" with a little styling gel or mousse.Can't hold my arms up long enough anymore to do the brush/dry and style thing.I can put on my makeup in about 8 minutes and that's base,eyeshadow,mascara,the works.

I used to go through all that crap with my hair.

I decided a while ago NOT to fight its natural tendencies.... layered cut and air dried (with a little finger scrunching), the waves fall right into place!

No sprays, no gels, no hassle....

I'm not doing all that. I wear it short. 2 minutes or less to dry. NO hairspray. I hate that stuff!! Makes my very soft hair feel like straw. I'm good to go. Makeup takes a little longer. Maybe 5 minutes.

In HS I had long hair and washed it every night. Rolled it wet on those BIG wire brush rollers except I took out the brushes. I would sit and watch TV while I rolled it. Never used a mirror and had the straightest parts. Couldn't do that now to save my life. Finally had to cut the long hair because it was so thick and heavy it gave me headaches.

I used to sleep with those stupid brush rollers all over, and put strips of Kleenex under the rollers, so I could stand to put my head down! Isn't that funny what we went through back then. Garter belts weren't exactly fun either!!

I keep mine short and straight,in fact i'm getting it cut tomorrow.Wash it and condition it,blow it dry using a hair brush to give it some body,and i'm done in less than 5 minutes.I've got thick,babyfine,and straight hair.It also fall into a natural part on the left side.

44 years ago I bought an old salon dryer. It was too old a style for them to use any more. I still use it and then some light hair spray. Takes 10 minutes to dry. I just can't ssem to learn to blow dry etc. As I have 4 bad discs in my neck and 3 in my back plus poly myalgia, I'm very glad to have this. So hope it lasts as long as I do.

I solved the whole hair problem by letting my hair grow long. Shampoo, conditioner, add a little smoothing gel, dry and go.

No way would I want to go back to the sixties with the setting, the teasing, the hairspray, wrapping my head in tp when I slept, and worrying about getting it wet etc.

I just get out of the shower and let it air dry for 10 or 15 minutes while I get dressed and do my make-up. Five more minutes with the blow dryer and I'm good to go. If I need to fancy up another 5 minutes with the flat iron or large barrel curling iron. Fast and easy.

When I had short hair I had to fuss with it every day so I wouldn't frighten small children. Now I can get up and fingercomb my hair and look decent.

LOL love it...take me less then ten min. though if I keep my hair wrapped in a towel for about a hour then blow it and straighten my STRAIGHT hair??????????? Stacy

I haven't messed with my hair since I was a teenager. I wore it long and pulled it back for years, and then wore it short and permed...just picked it. Now I wear it short...just wash it and go. I don't even have to comb it most days. I don't own a blow dryer or rollers or hair spray. Don't bleach or color it. I wash it and go. Works for me.

Boy does this ever bring back memories! Being a Texas gal, I wore big hair. With 4 little ones multi-tasking was everything, so I'd shampoo & roll hair on big fat rollers, put on my bathing suit, slather tanning stuff on my body, cream on my face, put an old sheet under ironing board, & iron in the sun on the patio while watching the kids as they played. In short order my hair was dry, got a bit more tan, a facial and week's ironing done.
Keep it short now- a bit of mousse, sides brushed back & finger scrunch the top & let it dry, then run a comb thru it. Ahhh!

And now shudder remembering all that ironing! Pillow cases, table cloths (fresh ones for every meal) everything we put on our bodies & I was so particular I ironed all jeans & knit shirts... but the worst were DH's white dress shirts & those starched criss-cross curtains with ruffles!

BTW ladies, I still see those hooded table hair dryers at estate/garage sales.
