do NOT toss them in the dryer!

I occasionally bought something that said dry clean only... even though I try so hard to pay attention. But I always was it at home. However, I don't use a dryer, EVER... oh, well, for the last 4 years at least.

So far, no ill effect.

Well, they just got washed in cold water on the gentle cycle. I guess I better not take the chance of drying them in the dryer, even after they are line dried. I like to toss them in the dryer just to get the wrinkles out, but not at the expense of ruining them. Does anyone actually dry clean their jeans? If so, you must own a lot of pairs to make up for the time spent at the cleaners!

I don't even iron 99% of my clothes! No way, would I pay to dry clean any.

Here's an idea - maybe learn to become a bit less fastidious?

Some say that part of the reason for there having become so many more auto-immune diseases in recent years is because we've become so worried about getting our children anywhere near a germ in their earlier years.

When I was a kid on the farm, part of the lexicon of sayings that we heard while growing was that one had to eat a peck of dirt before one died.

My landlord pulls up a carrot, gives it a bit of a rub with his hand ... and into his mouth it goes.

He, in his 50s, is still pretty robust. I, in my 80s, still somewhat the same game - though I'm not nearly as robust as he!

Under such conditions, jeans usually get quite dirty after three wearings.

But I wear my gardening clothes - granted, some variety - from spring through summer until late fall - till nearly when snow flies. Actually, snow has already flown ... and I still have some stuff to do in the garden (when it thaws a bit).

My clothes are lucky if they get washed more than about three times during that extended usage ...

... and I ain't dead - well, not yet.

Maybe hand wash 'em ... in coolish water?

And I agree - forget the dryer ... hang 'em on a clothesline for a while, maybe even on an unsunny day.

(The spell checker didn't like the "wearings" ... or the "unsunny" (among other things) - too fastidious for me!)!

Wash in cool or cold water and hang until only damp, then s-t-r-e-t-c-h them and lay them flat to finish drying. It's the *dryer* that does the wonderful job of shrinking things. Good luck!

I buy very few clothes that can't be washed. Jeans wouldn't be on that list of the very few.

Yes, I do garden and I wear my old clothes for that. They are usually so dirty after one gardening session that they go right into the washer and the dryer. I am sure I eat plenty of dirt while gardening but I don't do it on purpose.

I really can't walk around in a nice pair of jeans that look like I slept in them. I keep two or three pair to wear shopping or out for lunch with the girls, going to museums, etc. Nice jeans are accepted pretty much anywhere these days and cost as much as a pair of slacks. I actually am more fastidious than most when it comes to wrinkles. If something looks wrinkly to me, I iron it.

I iron jeans. To me, the heat from the iron softens out the fibers and they fit (and feel and look) better.

I do put my jeans in the dryer, but mine aren't "dry clean only". I agree with those who said (and what you did) - wash in cold and hang to dry. No dryer on yours.

Besides ensuring I use a cold water setting, I always pull my jeans inside out before washing to preserve the color from fading. Then I hang to dry and iron them when they are just barely damp, for a crisp polished look.

Alternately, if I have a load of dark clothes ready to go into the dryer, I throw my 'non-dryer' clothes that dried by hanging into the dryer with the wet clothes. This takes out any wrinkles they got from hanging and fluffs them while they are tossed around in the dryer. I have never had them shrink by putting them in with the wet clothes, as long as they were completely dried by hanging before adding them to my wet load in the dryer.

I have a couple of pairs of jeans that I try to keep looking 'new'. I wash them inside out on gentle cycle which lessons the abrasion to the surface of the fabric and helps retain the dark color. I hang them to dry and then give them a quick ironing to get rid of the wrinkles and to soften the fabric.

I also wash most of my Wool - dry clean only sweaters. I use the 'Wool' cycle (gentle) on my front loading washer and then lay flat to dry on a drying rack.

My regular jeans that I wear around the house go into the washer and dryer. They're faded and frayed and I only wear them around the house or for gardening.

When the item states dry clean only, I buy a size larger so I can wash them. This has always worked for me. Silk skirt I bought two sizes larger and washed it with great result. Always wash new clothes before I wear them.

My last RL jeans were a size larger than usual, washed in hot water and put in the dryer every time. My wool RL sweater gets hand washed.....the cotton sweats are hot water & dryer....the cotton pull on....the towels....all hot & hot....

I wash about everything in warm, cold rinse...but I do hang a couple of pair of sweat pants if I don't they get too "short"...sad too, cause they are scratchy....(they're sort of tailored)

I would hand wash in cold water then hang to dry. No way am I sending jeans to the cleaners.
