Picture frames, wine charms, decorative wine bottle stopper, pretty note cards or stationary, potted plant, votive candle holders...the prizes are for the guests so they do not have to be baby related. The price range is whatever you want it to be, but does not need to be elaborate. Maybe around $5.00

Brunch foods go over well. Quiche, breakfast casserole, large bowl of fresh fruit, an assortment of juices and muffins or quick breads such as banana nut bread. Another option would be chicken divan or something similar. Serve with a tossed salad and nice dinner rolls. Dessert would typically be a decorated cake.

I have given baby showers using two different ideas for 'prizes':

I have given gifts that can then be given to the m-t-b when the shower is over.

I have given 'white elephant' gifts as prizes at baby showers, which had everyone hopping up and down and laughing like crazy. I preferred the last one - it was always a HOOT! Just buy the craziest gifts you can find and the guests 'steal' the gifts from each other when they win - it can go on for hours and is SO MUCH fun. With today's economy, the gifts need to cost less than $5 each and we all need a good laugh!

How nice of you to have a shower for someone. You've got a pretty good sized group coming. My children are grown and gone, but I still fondly remember the baby showers friends were kind enough to have for me.

I probably won't be much help--just random thoughts.

As for the prizes, decide how much you want to spend totally, divide by 8, and that's how much you can spend per prize. Other posters here will have lots of good ideas for prizes. (If I ever win a prize, I'm delighted no matter what it is.)

Food can be just about anything but should be on the lighter side like salads if it is in the afternoon. I think the key here is to plan something that you can have ready a day in advance. Pasta salad?

The last baby shower I was at--the mother of the expectant mom made a Boo-Boo Bunny for each of the guests as a party favor. Everyone was so impressed, and they are cute. Link below.

Good luck, have fun planning it. I hope you can recruit some help, especially the day of.

Here is a link that might be useful: Boo-Boo Bunny

Thanks for the ideas. I prefer to give a prize that can be used and not just tossed. Don't like to waste my money. $5 a prize is within my range.

Play a memory game. Put baby-related objects in a basket, things like a rattle, pacifier, spoon, bottle, package of wipes, etc.Try to include at least 20-25 items. Pass the basket around, let each person take their time looking at the items. Then take the basket away, give each person a paper and pen. Tell them to write their name on top and make a list of the items, no fair comparing lists. At the end, collect all the lists and read them out loud. The person who got the most right wins a prize. The mother/ guest of honor gets the basket. This game is loads of fun after several glasses of punch!
