Need a little help with an article for a Christian magazine

I've written a little piece for a Christian magazine (about angels) and I'd be so grateful if someone here would be willing to read it for me and tell me what you think? I'm not looking for an editor, just an opinion of - yeah, this was really touching and it brought a tear to my eye, or it drags or it's too ethereal or you sound like a weirdo or *something*.

Bindersbee, I hope you have fun building your pergola. I really enjoyed building mine. I created that design in a quick sketch after looking over a number of designs in Sunset books and some other sources. I only have one modification I'll probably make -- I need to extend the lattice down a little lower so it will be easier to get a vine to grow up on it. I can't really use the corner posts for the vines, because I think they're too close to the roses and the trees. I have some little Clematis 'Ville de Lyon' plants that I've grown from cuttings off of my established plant, but I'm afraid they won't do well there because of the Swedish aspen roots that will compete with them too much for water and nutrients. I still haven't decided what to grow on it, but I'm leaning heavily toward climbing roses. Probably Zephirine Drouhin, because she won't mind growing up the shady side, and she's not thorny. Any other suggestions? I suppose if I grow a climbing rose there, I can get the canes growing up the lattice without extending it lower, but if it were the clematis, I'd need more support down low.

Okay, let me see.......where did I file those pics of the pics.....duhhhh. Yaya, I will put my peabrain into gear and see what I can find. I did upload an album for the HouseMA, which means Massachusetts, which I'll link to below, but there are tons of IN PROCESS photos of the various rooms. But of the small parlor/living room, with that row of pics....which I love, BTW, for the subject matter as well as the frames.... I'll look for the best one and insert it HERE. Look for the albums about the Massachusetts Cape @ Webshots. I took the pictures with my digital camera the day we went to Mystic Seaport CT. It was in December, and the place was almost deserted, so there were no folks in the shots. As a boat captain, I knew of Mystic Seaport for many years, and I was in hog heaven being there. So the pictures meant a lot to me. The second image from the right is a bow shot of the whaling ship Charles W. Morgan, before it went on the ways/weighs to be restored/rebuilt. Fantastic and beautiful, a work of art. Then I saw the end of every bowsprit (pointy end of the ship) had a star carved into it and usually painted gold or sometimes blue. This is a tradition with old sailing vessels, a good luck sign, which meant "follow your lucky star," and I'd always, on every boat I worked on, painted a blue star (5 point) on the bow of the boat. It is a sailor tradition. I just love the traditions of the sea. Seeing one from the "old days" was awesome. That is why I love the last picture to the right. And, of course, I took some figurehead shots. You know of course the ancient mariners would strap a live virgin to the bow, as a sacrifice to the sea gods for their safe return. Eventually, they carved and painted wooden figureheads, not all female, as figureheads. I guess they ran out of virgins? If you have a chance to visit the Mystic Seaport, it is a real treat. Hi. Sure, disabled here means wheelchair user. I want to pitch this to a primarily spinal cord injury magazine, so paraplegia and quad, too. Active people who use wheelchairs and also get a lot of enjoyment from gardening. Let me know if I need to define it more. Thanks!

I'm sure everyone here is honest but you do have to be careful sending your work out ahead of time for others to read. By the time it gets submitted for publication it could be all over the internet. I hope everyone who reads it knows not to forward it to all their friends no matter how beautiful and touching the story is.

Make sure you put a *copyright signature* on it.

A written work is copyright protected at the time of its creation. Filing a copy of work with the Library of Congress and registering that work only guarantees that you can sue for statutory damages ($150,000 per infringement) if you decide to file a civil lawsuit for copyright infringement. If your work is not registered with the LOC, you can still file a lawsuit, but your damages will be limited to actual damages (lost sales), which usually isn't a huge number.

I've sent it this text to a few folks, asking specifically that they not forward it to others or distribute it in any way. I'm sure the few souls who are kind enough to read this work that wouldn't think of stealing it.

There's so much bad info out there about copyright and intellectual property.

Nonetheless, I suppose this is an opportunity to reiterate: Just because it's on the 'net, doesn't mean it's in the public domain. The only documents that you can safely assume to be in the public domain are documents produced and copyrighted prior to 1923. Most government-produced documents are also in the public domain.
