Also, check with the horticultural dept. at your local high school. Ours sells their plants very, very reasoably--pointsettias at Christmas, flower plants around Easter, and vegetable and flowers for your garden in the spring. Not only do you save money, but you support an important educational program.

Instead of buying more expensive containers for leftovers at the grocery store, or investing big bucks in T-ware, go to your local bar supply and get deli containers. They come 50 to a sleeve for about $5-6, are available in 1 cup, 1 pint, and 1 quart sizes. Lids fit all sizes. They stack for storing. Are reusable. And at about .11 each, you don't mind sending leftovers with guests in them, or tossing one if you find it in the back of the fridge with something odd growing in it. Just be aware, there are different qualities. Try to find the better quality ones--they're fine for freezing and reusing, but the thinner ones aren't as good, nor as airtight.

A GF of mine cut back on the cost of flowers by having her wedding right next to Easter. The church is already well decorated with flowers.

I tried cutting a roll of paper towels, once. Remember when Scott towels made a smaller/shorter roll? I loved them, they were perfect in my craft room, but they discontinued making them and I didn't know so I couldn't stock up. (I still have the smaller holder, somewhere.) Made me mad! So I tried to cut one with a big serrated knife, what a mess. I didn't have access to a band saw and that might have made a big difference. Now I buy the select-a-size ones from Bounty and I tear them in half sometimes. We don't use a lot of paper towels, though, unless I'm making string balloons with stiffy! Went thru a bunch that weekend! lol

I don't live near enough to a school with a horticulture dept to get a good price of flowers, darn it.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but we have a hairdressing school in our town, and every Monday they cut hair for free. The supervisor is right there and before the students are allowed to cut your hair, they have to explain to the supervisor exactly what they're going to do. They also do manicures, pedicures, waxings, makeup and spa treatments for a real good price.

I used to make my own diaper wipes out of paper towels. I used a really heavy serrated knife to cut the roll in half. It was really fuzzy at that end so I would put that end down in the bottom of the container. Since I added lotions and water to the container the fuzzyness wasn't an issue.

I'm a big paper towel waster. I've out that my house stays cleaner if I use them since I thow tham out after use and dont have to store a pile of rags. I'm always looking for ways to cut down on that waste. My kids are the number one mess makers in the house. I make them use the tea or finger towels for cleaning up their own messes. I use old towels for drying the floors after I mop.

Every April the horticulture class from the local college hold a plant sale in walmarts parking lot.DH and i are there before they open each and every year.They usually have plants you don't find in the local nurseries,and if you do,would cost a whole lot more.

The little sauce containers or great for individual dippers for parties. No double dippers!

Bounty makes a paper towel called Select-A-Size that tears off 1/2 a sheet, or you can take more if you need. I love them.
