Happy New Year's Eve

I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year's Eve. I am busy fixing more food for our cook out. We are hoping to have leftovers to eat on New Year's Day. The weather this morning in Indiana is 38. Enjoy your holiday.

And a happy, healthy New Years eve to you and yours. I'll probably be in bed by 10. Awwww but do I ever have some memories on New Years Eves of the past. May the New Year bring you all good things.

Happy New Year's Eve day to you as well my friend.

Almost all the snow has melted from the rain last nite. Hopefully we don't get freezing rain today.

Sweetie and I are going to bury a dollar coin for financial luck. We're adopting RavenCajun's tradition.

Nothing planned for today or tomorrow. Have a great day everyone!

**** for Bobbie and Annette! It did start out as a marketing ploy when the grape harvest was abundant and the growers wanted to encourage people to buy. I think Bobbie hit it correctly when she asked who would buy just twelve grapes. Personally, I think it is brilliant and I bet the grape growers do too, since it is a country-wide tradtion these days. The idea is to finish all twelve grapes before the clock finishes striking. The grape eating at midnight has been traced back to 1895, but it really became accepted practice throughout the country in 1906 after a particularly bountiful year. TM, they weren't just clearing out symbolically-from what I read, they really did want to sell all those grapes! :) Can't help but picture Lucy buying and stomping on them to make her own wine. Talked to my cousin, sister of the cousin I was so close to that passed away, we laughed and cried for quite some time. Our friends from church did not stop by but another did, ones we had not seen for a long while, a few years, so it was great to catch up. We were so close for a very long time but then just seemed to drift apart, he was working out of town all week and she changed jobs, I was working at my office but also as at the mall so had little free time. It was fun to rekindle the friendship, we went thru some very tough times together.

YogaLady, I probably won't make it either, but I have good intentions. I really like Pad Thai, but Harry not so much. If you have time, look at the recipes of the week. I posted a soup recipe I think you may like. Kathleen, how nice to have an evening alone. Bet you don't have many of those, so enjoy it. That salad sounds delicious. I've never tried it. Georgysmom, I hope your lobster turns out better than mine. They weren't Maine lobster tails and not very tasty. I salute your DH for helping out--I know you've been working your fanny off in the kitchen. Shirley, you sure are creative! I would've loved to share your dinner with you. Jasdip, you're having my idea of the perfect evening. I do like watching the New Year come in in foreign countries, though. Happy New Year, friend! Glenda, I haven't been to Applebee's for so long! We always loved eating there when we lived in Gainesville. They had an excellent Oriental chicken salad--but it's been years ago and don't know if they have it any longer. Nancylee, don't think I've met you before, but welcome to the KT. Chili is an excellent idea. I could eat it every cold night we have. I don't put beans in mine. Just a lot of meat and chili powder/cumin :-) Oh man, Azzalea, those ham salad sandwiches sound so yummy! Especially with the slaw. I hope it tasted as good as it sounds. Land, now I really, really want ham salad. Cheryl, if I had to get up at 4:30 there'd be no way I'd even see 9 p.m. Have fun with your neighbors and get a good night's sleep. Raven, was your Aroma cooker a Christmas gift? (Did I forget that? I do love Asti and meant to look for it when shopping today--but forgot to put it on the list--and you know how THAT goes :-( Pam, I'm sorry you missed your family Christmas and hope your mother is going to be okay. She (and you) will have some decisions to make this year, I'm sure. But as long as she can manage with help, it's a good thing.

Thank you. As I recall we had a record high of 80 last Sunday (1 January). Tonight and tomorrow night (6 and 7 /January) will get down to 24 and 26, then back up into the 60/70s after that. The ground is always workable. The lows are very short in duration. The day temps normally warm everything back up. This is a great time to garden. Weeds grow slow, and no mosquitoes. It is a gardeners paradise from oct to march. April, May and June starts to warm up. July, August and Sept are too hot and too many bugs. In the recent past, I tried a second tomato season in late fall. Looking back, it makes no sense to try to grow in July, Aug, Sept when it is so effortless now. Of course, I can't grow tomatoes now. I am thinking I will just grow extra tomatoes in the normal season and freeze the extra. The ones I froze from last summer did real good in Sauces. I don't have a lot of time to can/make sauce to freeze, but I can always make time to quarter tomatoes and throw them in a bag in the freezer. The sweet white turnips, hakerie (name is close to that), are one of the lesser cold hardy varieties. They are very tastee, especially roasted with the carrots. I have a small patch of them and few remain. I will cover them. Everything else is very hardy and remains uncovered: Kale,broccoli, collards,onions, carrots and Lettuce. I expect some Lettuce losses, as there are many varieties. I expect half to survive just fine. I watered real good yesterday getting ready for the cold snap.

Happy New Year's Eve to you too! Doing laundry, cleaning up the house, and then going to lay around and read a book before I try to go to bed early tonight. Have to work tomorrow.

So was ours in NE Texas but it will warm up and no snow !!

Minnie that's so funny picturing you out there rattling your pots and pans. I googled, and I saw that one of the traditions is to make noise to ward off bad luck etc. So cute.

Hubby and I buried our dollar coin this morning. I should have sprung, and buried a Toonie ($2 coin)

Same here, doing some straightening up, sitting with two of the cats and getting ready to make supper tonight. Prime Rib and crab legs, salad and great bottle of Silver Oak wine. Friends are stopping for a drink and a movie later, so looking forward to 2012!

Happy ny indeed! I'm a sporatic poster these past 10 years but want to share that I'm in reno today with my band. We are opening for Big and Rich! Should be quite a party. Be safe everyone. No drinking if you plan to drive. Here's to 2012!
