Wildchild, so glad I'm not the only one seeing the moving/flashing ads. Then ever so often ivillage wants me to take a survey.
Another thing is I might read/respond to a post, click on something else and I go back to the previous post.

No ads or pop-ups here...and I use IE.

I get the ads and popups too; sometimes I have to chase them across the screen to close them.

For those of you that don't have the pop ups and use IE have you rebooted your machines? That is when my pop ups started. I am NOT a happy camper with GW right now.

sad to say it pays the bills, sigh...what bugs me are the surveys...used to do those and get paid! lol

I'm using IE on my new computer under the advise of my computer guy who says he sees more problems on computers that have several browsers downloaded- that they all conflict with each other and cause all sorts of problems and even when you uninstall them, parts of them are still there, causing conflicts. I hated to hear that because I love Mozilla, but I'm giving this IE a whirl.

Everything was going fine until just a few days ago and bam- all the ads started showing up and moving and flashing and the pages started loading more slowly and it's driving me nuts and annoying the snot out of me. I have great virus protection and pop-up blockers but even so, some get thru and it's going to drive me completely away if they don't do something to make this site less busy. I've had to mute my speakers because I'm sick of hearing the little 'woo' when a pop-up is blocked, on every single window I open here, this is freakin' ridiculous! I won't buy anything from any of their advertisers, but I do my best to not even look at their stupid ads because they are so distracting. I feel like sticking post-it notes all down the right side of my screen, lol.

I'm coming here less and less because of this. Not a smart move on Ivillage's part, IMO.

And I reboot daily, so that isn't it. It all started about 5 days ago.

I just sent a complaint to the link at the bottom of the main page. I hope everyone does.

I don't like them. TOday is the first day I have seen ads.

I was on SO computer, he uses Mozilla for a browser. There were no ads and I wasn't even logged in.

I'd prefer not to download another browser just to open KT.

I get the ads too, and I am sick of the fockers! Is there a way to block ads?

Flamingo that is because you rebooted. Mine started with a reboot too. I was fine until the cat turned off my computer.

There is really no good reason (imho) why anyone should ever have to be bothered with annoying ads. I'm almost positive that the good folks at Computer Help can assist any one of you.

Just tell them what browser and operating system you are using and they will try to help.

Here too. The ads on the side are one thing. Flashing and jumping are so irritating.

On my IE browser, when I got to type a reply, the second I click on the message area, a new tab will open and it's usually an ad for Netflix: WHICH I HAVE ALREADY! Anyways, if you have IE, you can block popups. Go to

TURN ON POP UP BLOCKER
to turn of the sounds of the pop up blocker

POP UP BLOCKER SETTINGS
uncheck the two boxes for sound and the yellow bar.

Heather, that's not it- I reboot every day, have since forever, I turn off the computer every night. These new ads only showed up less than a week ago, it can't be because I rebooted. It's on their end, I know that. And I have a pop-up blocker, set on medium security. If I go higher than that, I can't even open Ebay.

I did find a way to turn off the sound alert for pop-ups, but thank you Debbie, I'm sure lots of people will find that really helpful.

Reboot every morning... nope, no ads. IE. Pop-up blocker on. Don't have to sign in each morning, either.

I still have WebTV and don't know how to stop popups. I keep getting the ads that are right in the middle of the post that I am trying to read. I miss half of the post. Can't get it to go away. and I keep getting the NetFlix ad and can't make it go away so that I can read a post or post. Just have to hope I get lucky now and then.

Sandy, what browser are you using? I'm thinking you use FF.

I started seeing ads with FF and then discovered (thanks to the folks at CH) that somehow my adblock had become disabled for all the sites on just one of the GW servors. Now I'm all fixed up again.

I don't see any pop-ups at all. Using Firefox with "block pop-up windows" checked.

who ever told someone that you should not use more than one browser is absolutely wrong! We at computer help always urge everyone to have at least 2 browsers on every pc. Should the built in IE fail, and it does often, then you are left with no way to get online. If you have a second browser like firefox or opera then all you would do is click on it and be able to get online. It is an essential. In all the years I have been dealing with peoples computers I have never seen any problem with having multiple browsers. I have multiple on all of my machines and I often use more than one at the same time and have never encountered a problem.

My suggestion as I have been telling those that came to computer help for assistance on these ads is use firefox browser, put the add on ad block plus on it and use the easylist subscription. Very very easy to do and I see NO ads anywhere on the internet. If you need help and instruction on how to do that just come over to the computer help forum and we will be happy to give you help.

I wonder if we come in on different servers because all the problems that people are experiencing now, I had about 3 months ago. It's been fine for me for quite a while now and I never adjusted anything.

you must have the easylist subscription added to firefox and adblock plus if you do not it will not block all ads. You can easily add it by going to this site and simply clicking where it says add to adblock plus. Add it on then I always recommend closing firefox and then reopening it to make sure all is set.

OK, I took your advice, ravencajun and downloaded Mozilla and am back to using it. (I really was missing my spell check feature!) The ads haven't gotten any better. I still need to add on the Adblock plus, though.

It ticks me off that I have to do all this, though, when less than a week ago, everything was fine here and I was seeing no ads and had no distractions.

Yesterday GW posted a notice at the top of the page in RED. They're aware of the problem and ask people to email them and let them know exactly what issues you are having. If you click on that you'll get a link to their email.

ravencajun, I'd like to thank you very much. I did everything you suggested and all the ads have stopped, yay! And I learned a lot from you, so I really owe you. You give great, lucid, well-reasoned advice and I appreciate it.

Ravencajun, tell me more.. I downloaded the ad block plus you suggested, then an add on that it suggested ABP or something like that and the easy list. I still have the adds. What have I done wrong or what else can I do? Many thanks!

if you have firefox that is functioning, you go to where you get the adblock plus add on here

click the add to firefox button and then accept it, once it has added it to firefox you will be asked to restart firefox do that.
then there are 2 ways to add the easylist subscriptions which you MUST have to stop all the ads.
go to this page and under easylist click where it says add to adblock plus and it will add the easylist subscription to your adblock plus.
EasyList
while there you can also add the easy privacy I use it too.
then you want to shut down your firefox and restart it so that everything is in place and activated. you should be all done.

the other way to add the easylist is the method shown in the little youtube video.

arosegirl make sure that when you are on a page that shows any ads that your ABP stop sign up on your browser top or down at the bottom is RED if it is not red it is turned off for that page, to make any changes to Adblock plus just right click directly on the little red stop sign with ABP on it and it will open up the options.
to see that it is doing it's job when on any page simply hover the mouse cursor over the red stop sign and it will tell you how many ads are being blocked on that page.
arosegirl you mention you put on adblock plus then and add on that it suggested??? what other add on, there are no other add ons needed just ad block plus then the easylist subscription.
Go through it again as I just explained and see if it will work.

Please understand you must have firefox, the adblock plus addon for firefox and the easylist subscription for adblock plus to get the results you want, just firefox will not do it.

I haven't had any ads since I had the Penney's ad a few months ago. That was really annoying. I have firefox.

It's a shame, they are killing this site. Not just the KT but the entire THS and GW site. People are not happy and will abandon the site. I cannot run Firefox, it will not work with my reservations system so I haven't an option other than to avoid iVillage.

yes you can change the font size in firefox settings just click up at tools > options> the content tab then there where it says fonts you can change the size and font type there.

you can also of course use your center mouse wheel to enlarge the text on any page by holding down ctrl key and rolling the mouse wheel up and down.

Lynn_d can you not just use firefox when coming to view these sites and use IE when using your reservations system?
Both can easily be used at the same time, I often times have had my IE open along with my firefox and just toggle between the 2.

I ran into a problem after installing and using firefox for a few days. I was not able to open some videos. It would tell me I needed to update my Adobe Flash Player but when I'd try and do just that I'd get it started to install and it would tell me there was a conflict with Mozilla. So, I'd try using my IE to install the update the Adobe Flash Player and it would tell me that there was a conflict with IE. I came across a few more issues too so finally had to uninstall Firefox. I was very sorry to have to since it had eliminated the ads and popups on various sites I frequent. :( I did have to use IE for some of my stops but here or the news site I use, the adblocker plus was a real treat. Don't know what went wrong maybe someone would know.

Also, I noticed yesterday evening, even after uninstalling firefox that the ads were still and not very many of them. Not so today, they are in full force like they were before I installed firefox. I'm so confused.

PS: I meant to thank ravencajun for the advice on how to enlarge my text if using FF. Also, didn't know about the scroll wheel and ctrl key. That's good to know and thank you!

you have to do the flash update for each individual browser and it is really important to have the current updated versions due to security issues so you should try that again, for both IE and firefox.

that is the download link for flash if you look on there you can see where it says which it is for and then says different operating system or browser that is where you click to select the various ones for IE or firefox, Use IE to get and download that one and then use firefox to get and download the one for it. Then everything should work fine.
