Musical or Play you would recommend?

Doesn't look like we are going to see Wicked after all. I thought it was playing into December in Cincinnati but it's not.

I was trying to think of something else we could go to. I thought about Mama Mia but don't think Alex would want to go to that. Any ideas?

Locally, we have "A Christmas Carol". We took the whole family to see it last year. We all enjoyed it. It had local actors in, but it was done up really well. We may go see it again this year.

Well, it being Christmas, there's always The Nutcracker. I'm so sorry you're going to miss Wicked. It's such a great show.

Because I think I had read somewhere that a good companion plant for tomato plants may be tulips, I had in the past (just once) tried serenading them with Tiny Tim's rendition of "Tiptoe Through The Tulips." This did seem to promote the development of rather robust tomato seedlings. However, for some reason, the seed saved from the fruits of these plants exhibited crossing to such an extent that I did not again employ this method, let alone use the above ditty. Reg

I agree with fotostat. I live in a condo complex and have an idiot neighbor with no common sense who decided getting a full drum set for his son would be a good idea (we have a common wall). I can't compare it to a piano/flute/clarinet, but all I can say is even for an hour a day during the daytime, the noise from the drums was unbearable. We had quite a few arguments about it, but eventually he came to his senses and at least put some muting pads on his drums. It's still loud and annoying (mostly because his son is pretty horrible at drums), but at least the noise is tolerable. The thing is, if he had actually come talked to me BEFORE he bought the drums, I'm sure we could have resolved the issue about the mute pads then, instead of having to argue with each other and be in a situation where two next-door neighbors hate each other. I would strongly advise just going to each of your neighbors and seeing if you won't be causing too much of a problem.

Rockers yes, there's nothing better in my opinion for 'watching'. (My choice for your home would be natural wood similar to your door color, as previously mentioned.) We had a narrow front porch on a 'farmhouse/colonial' style home and they worked just fine with a table in the middle, they didn't travel. They were used to have coffee in the morning, wine in the evening, and just to watch the neighbors pull in and out of their driveways and wave or come over to say hi. Once our neighbor across the street came over with a few Stella Artois to share with us and he just sat there and looked at his house when his new landscaping was finished :) He loved our porch!

"Elmer, playing in a handbell choir isn’t playing a musical instrument?" Sorry no, not in my opinion. In learning to play a musical instrument, there are underlying things to know that any beginner must grasp, essential to being able to understand and apply putting the pieces together. -Scales and keys, major and minor -The basic relationships between different chords and progressions, in any key -Time signatures, types of notes and beats (this is where your syncopation-challenged person came up short) -A few other miscellaneous things. None of which require knowing how to read music notation to understand but it's an easy and traditional way. Looking at a keyboard can also be done (whether that's the intended instrument or not) and all basics but rhythm can be seen and learned. Part of developing proficiency, as I mentioned above, is learning the puzzle pieces and then applying them independently and apart from what was taught. The Happy Birthday example. A person who has this basic knowledge from learning an instrument will HEAR these elements in the music of others they listen to. They'll have insights about what they listen to that others without the basic training won't. It opens a wonderful world that too many miss out on. I suspect none of these are needed or done in playing a bell.

Sushipup, not sure, I'm looking at local theaters.

Lauren didn't sound interested in A Christmas Carol. I saw it years ago in Tucson, AZ. We can drive 5 or 6 hours away and spend the night if we need to. No big deal.

Kathleen, check this out. I just went to Cincinnati plays and musicals and it shows Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the US Bank Arena.

I highly recommend.

Gave PJR, his stepmother and stepsister tickets two years ago and they loved it.

Last year PSR's wife enjoyed it so she bought tickets so she and PSR could attend and HE loved it.

We are only a few hours from Ohio, 6 from Chicago. Lexington and Louisville don't have anything. Looked at some smaller theaters in the area, nothing interesting.

Glenda, my kids would love Phantom of the Opera...not sure about Sola. I'll see where it's playing. Thanks.

Glenda, no dates available for Phantom of the Opera. I did see TSO, we went the last two years. When I found out they weren't coming to Lexington this year the kids made a comment about it being the same show anyway. So, decided not to go again this year. They did like it, in fact, the first year we went there was a female violinist that was great. Second year they had some guy that was good but I think the woman got Alex interested in playing the violin. He requested one for Christmas so he could learn how to play.

Oh, you mentioned Cincinnati, so that's why I mentioned Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

They are on tour, see if they are anywhere close to you. Really a treat!

Type in trans-siberian orchestra and read what it is about.

Glenda, that's who I was talking about. We've seen them the last two years. I even thought about going to see them in Ohio, where you mentioned, but then the kids made that comment. Although, I do think Sola would like them.

I'm going to call the theater where Wicked is playing and ask about any other tickets that might be available, even if they aren't all together.

When you call the theater, you might ask if there's any chance the play will be extended. Sometimes if it is a constant sell out, they will extend the show.

Bully Elliot or West Side Story would be suitable for teens of either gender. Does it have to be in December? Those are slated for Cinncinati in early 2012.

Well, I just called the theater and they only had two seats left for one of the Friday shows and none for any other day. I guess we'll just have to take a trip to N.Y. sometime next year and see it. ( :

Thanks for the other ideas. I'll have to google Billy Elliot because, although, I've heard of it I have no idea what the story is about.
