Oh Auntie Glenda I love chocolate covered cherries!!!!

I remember getting those as far back as 1961, as a young teen, for a Christmas gift exchange.....funny the things you remember....

Not yet,that's one of dh favorites,also one of my sisters favs,i'll have to tell you the story about her sometime.

I definitely can not have them but it is ok since I just think they are too sweet however my hubby does enjoy them on occasion and holidays he usually has a box under the tree lol.
He has to space them out these days of course.

My husband loves them. I can eat only a couple. His Mother always used to buy him some for Christmas.

My dad always got some for my mother during the holidays. Too sweet for me, but I used to like the cherries.

I used to buy them and love them, but as I get older, the belly gets bigger, so no more for me.

Never had them. A friend of mine every holiday made candy. The one I loved the most was cho. covered cherries. The cherries was soaked in whiskey for 2 weeks before she covered them with cho.

She passed away & I have never been able to find any candy as good as she made it.

Oh for the good old days.

Yes, bought my first box Tuesday a week ago. Clerk in grocery store said she had just put up the display that morning. Love, love, the cherries. Trying to remember the first time I received them for Christmas. Not sure if it was 75 years ago, but remember getting them as a child.

My Scots grandmother loved them. Too sweet for me, but I do love maraschino cherries -- and GOOD chocolate.

Took the time to look up Brachs. They have been around since 1904 so maybe I have been eating them close to 75 years. Called my mother and she was telling me they would be wrapped under the tree. They noticed that one had been opened and rewrapped. Not sure how old I was at the time, but guess I could not wait until Christmas. Mother is in her late 90's always buys us boxes for holidays.

As much of a choco-holic as I am, chocolate covered cherries are not on my gotta have list. Way too sweet for me. But I do remember growing up they were a family Christmas must have.

When I see them mentioned here, I'm always reminded of Judy in Alabama. One of the first things she ever posted about was chocolate covered cherries for Christmas.

Her last post here that I remember was to let us know that Ashley and Jason were expecting a little brother for Travis.

Do any of you remember her, or hear from her?

In my family, it's not about the quality or how they taste, it's the tradition.

I'm 74 and I remember getting them as a kid.

I started taping money to the bottom.

jenni_caI, I did a search only to find out that she did not have an email addy listed. I guess my conversations with her were always just follow ups to her posts. She always replied and I felt like we were friends.

The post I read about the new baby said "brother." Guess it was too soon to really tell. Then there was one about an iPad, or something.

I wish she could come back and post again. She is such a sweet unassuming, loves everyone type of person. Yes, please tell her I think about her, Greg, and all of them. I hope her health is good.

Judy, years ago, sent me a tin filled with shelled pecans.

She's a special person.

Those and Thin Mints were my Mom's favorite at Christmas. Also, I just watched an old episode of the Hazel show and her nephew brought her a box for a present and she was overjoyed with them! Lol

Mom always bought these. I've bought them myself every Christmas since I left home (1974). Used to be a dollar a box, now they are 4 or 5 bucks. I try to get both milk and dark chocolate, so everyone can have a choice.My late mother in law used to give everyone a box of pecan-caramel Turtles at Christmas. I miss both my "moms" a lot at this time of year.

I love them, but only the dark chocolate. Looked for them at Wal-Mart the other day, but they only had the milk chocolate. Plan to put them in the freezer for later when I can enjoy them, if I can find them.

I have made my own, but IMHO they weren't any better than the store-bought. (And they're a PITA.)

One year, as a gag gift for my dear dear MIL's husband (who turned out to be an Ahole) who loved the things, we very very carefully opened the cellophane, took one piece out, used a hot knife to cut the bottom off, took out the cherry filling, and replaced it with mustard. Then we melted the bottom back on and carefully replaced the cellophane. Yeah, we were stinkers! hehehe

My brother in law & I use to make our own chocolate covered cherries.

In October one of us went to the bulk food store and bought a 1/2 gallon of maraschino cherries.The liquid would be drained and replaced with Jack Daniels whiskey. Let that sit in the back of the frig for a month. Then make our chocolate cover cherries. The whiskey from the jar was also used in making the white cream.

All other ingrediants & mold were bought at a candy making shop.

These needed to be rationed.

You're right, Glenda -- the memories that certain items bring back can sometimes be even more enjoyable than the item itself!

When my mom would have it in the house -- probably for card night with her girlfriends -- I wasn't as taken with the chocolate as with the cherry!

That's a sweet tradition you're continuing, Glenda.
