It was FANTASTIC!!!!!!!

We had lunch together, Glenda_AL, Linda & myself. We had a blast, and have decided to make it a monthly get together!! Glenda brought us this amazing Brownie Brittle. And we ended up staying and just talking for 3 hours!!! I loved meeting these two lovely women!!!! No we didn't talk much about the KT. We talked about other things.to discuss.

But man, it was freakin' fantastic to meet these wonderful women!!!!! I enjoyed myself to the nth degree!!! If you ever get a chance to join us please do...like those that live in Gadsden Hint hint LOL

I just hate it when people have fun without me! LOL! I've met Linda but not Glenda--stick with them. They know the BEST places to eat! Glad you had a fun lunch.

What a beautiful property and so much potential! I'm the last person to give landscaping advice (you'd agree if you saw my yard lol, but it's mostly for lack of funds, not necessarily lack of ideas). That being said, as far as the pond, I personally could take it or leave it. However, if I were to keep it, I would like to put a gorgeous stone patio (rounded, curves, not a square or rectangle) in that area from the house to the pond, encompassing the pond to make it part of the patio. Possibly a low wall around the patio, with pots of annuals trailing down, or gardens around the wall or patio. I envision a seating area next to the pond enjoying the water (maybe putting a little water fall or water feature in it) and a water garden. I'd also put a small tree somewhere near the patio to shade it, but then I love the shade and think a sunny patio is nothing but a seat in hell, lol. I know you have that patio on the other side, but to me that looks more like a place to have morning coffee, not entertain or sit in the evening. Not everyone can have two patios, lol, but if you have the space and the funds, it might be nice. And this is where you could put your pergola (instead of or in addition to a small tree) and lights, and sit in the evening next to the pond. As far as the rest, you have so many choices and I think you need to think about what you want out of the yard. A vegetable garden can be created to be visually lovely but honestly it often ends up looking more utilitarian, so perhaps put that farther from the house and focus on perennial beds closer. On the other hand, having your vegetable garden close to the house is very convenient (says the person who has to walk across half an acre to snip some beans for dinner lol) Do you like formal plantings or more cottagey gardens? Do you want to have some kind of historically accurate garden to go with the house? I would incorporate shrubs and evergreens and berried plants for year-round interest (although of course check for toxicity for your dog - sorry, I don't have a dog so I don't know what is dangerous to them). Natives are, IMO, a bit less work. I would prefer some privacy so I might put some shrubs on the fence line, at least near the house, but be careful about light - you don't want to plant anything that will be too tall and might end up blocking the sun unless you are planning a shade garden. Think about watering too. Again, if you have the funds, now is the time to run piping for extra spigots around the yard, or an irrigation system, etc. I also love the idea of a secret little grotto in that back area with the old dairy walls. Something shady and restful and cool, with a place to sit and relax... nice! One thing of course to keep in mind is your view from the bedroom, if that is important to you. You may want to orient that entire side of the yard to look good from there as well as from the ground. If you put a pergola or small tree in the back there it might block some of the view, or it may add to it. Good luck, and please keep us posted as you go along! It's always so much fun to live vicariously through other people's gardens! I can't wait to see what you do with the property! :) Dee P.S. All that being said, I agree with Theresa24 - wait until next year and watch, watch, watch, and think, think, think. Hard to do but it will likely save you either regret or more work down the road!

This recipe was popular here on GW a few years ago. It’s easy and very good in a cup, should work in a lemon shell too. No Churn Lemon Ice Cream 1 Tablespoon finely grated lemon zest 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice from about 2 lemons. 1 cup sugar 1/8 teaspoon table salt 1 cup heavy cream 1 cup whole milk Whisk together lemon zest, lemon juice, sugar, and salt. In seperate bowl whisk cream and milk just until incorporated together. Slowly whisk cream mixture into lemon mixture until you no longer hear or feel the sugar against the bowl about 2 minutes. Pour into a 8 inch metal baking pan, cover tightly with foil and put in freezer... after a couple hours the edges should be froze firm and the middle mushy. Stir it up recover and put back in freezer until frozen about an hour.

Hi, I think you are right, I am gonna leave it potted until next spring after the last frost. I have a microclimate where I can plant maybe 3 trees against a south-facing block wall. It is painted white right now but I could maybe do the bottom half part darker to absorb more heat (and perhaps release it overnight) or I could put a darker stone or darker brick veneer on it. I dont actually have the avocado yet so not sure of the size. The company says 3 gallon. I got citrus from them and they are about 3 and 1/2 ft tall. I figure the Avocado will also be in that range. They ship pretty quick but I know we are getting a cold snap tonight- a few hrs in mid 30'sF, so they prob waited to ship. I hope after this it stays warm. I need to get my tomatoes into the raised beds lol. That's neat your HAAS has made it thus far! HAAS is my hubby's favorite. Ive killed a few lol. I had a HAAS from a Jax nursery that was grafted onto something cold hardy. When I brought it up here the top part died but the bottom under the graft is still going lol! I don't know what it is but its in a pot. We move it in during freezes. I'm shocked its still alive. Avocados and Jade plants (the succulent) both hate me. I can grow about anything else but those 2 so we'll see 🤣 We had mature Avocado trees in Cali & AZ but I didnt plant them, they were already there haha.

Parfuma Sunrise... A Fantastic Rose!

Rifis when I get a chance I will take a pic of what Sunrise currently looks like. Her foliage is similar to Bliss and Earth Angel. Trelor roses listed Sunrise as a four health rating. I would put her foliage on par with Raspberry Cupcake, Bliss, Earth Angel, Savannah.. Very good, excellent no-spray in this hot and humid area. She is not spotless because she is not plastic and I don't spray :) But she is very clean in her first year and I am very pleased. Also, I sometimes struggle to distinguish the differences of Black Spot and Cercospora, both run rampant here, but Parfuma Sunrise is a keeper, very clean for a no-spray rose. She never defoliated from disease, not even halfway. Ben.. funny story.. so I planted her in this new, local community garden we have and there is no fence. The deer were absolutely horendous this year. For at least four months I hardly saw any blooms or new foliage for that matter until we finally landed on a product they couldnt stand. PLANTSKYDD was the only product that kept them away. We used the concentrate and the granuals. All that to say, the repeat was hard to judge this year. She was one of the first to bloom this spring and seemed very much on par with Bliss to me in bush form, bloom power, flower form, foliage health... Hoping we get a fence in the next few months... I'm going to make score cards for the roses and yank the ones that do not perform.

I just got home about 30 minutes ago. I had some shopping to do after lunch. I loved having lunch with Laura and Glenda. It was fun and I'm sure we will do it again and often.

Nope not really, we could meet in Huntsville, AL that would be about half way. I know this great Cajun Restaurant that is really freaking good.They have hot wings to die for. The owner is a real Cajun so his jambalaya & crawfish ettouffe (sp) is wonderful & so is their boudan.

But Huntsville has just about all the restaurants you can imagine

Oh, I've been to Hunstville a few million times. That's where my ex is from. His dad worked at Redstone, but then, who hasn't? ;) Our first date was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving 1998, in Murfreesboro, and we talked and drove, and ended the evening in Hunstville sitting in the driveway, looking at the stars. I spent the night in the guest bedroom of his parents and they woke to meet me first thing in the morning. Lovely, huh? I shoulda known then, he wasn't very good at thinking ahead. Been down HWY 231 more times than I care to remember.

My favorite, bestest ever, well loved Huntsville restaruant is Ol' Heidelburg (next to the HUGE Mexican restaurant in the strip mall). Greatest pork schnitzel in hunter's sauce. Mmm. Can't recreate it still. Ah good times. Their family spent quite of time stationed in Germany and so, we've been there loads. Good carrot cake too.

Yes! Seems like I had catfish last time I was there. Ooooee and my 14 year old was more like 5 at the time. Long time ago. Greenbrier is good stuff. I'm not sure I could get to that. Seems like it was a windy road and someone else drove.

It's moved now, right off the road on the left at you are headed to the space center.

There's also Bob Gibsons around Decatur, further up the road to Nashville. The well known famous bbq place.
