Ipod question - Help.

I'm trying to back up my Ipod. I put songs on my Ipod from CD's and bought a few on Itunes. I then got a new computer and only the stuff I bought on Itunes shows up on my new computer. My old computer is pretty much done for it but I managed to get most of the songs off it. I'm still wanting to put all my songs on my Ipod onto my new computer. I can't find a way to get my songs from my Ipod to my computer. Is there a way or am I just out of luck once this Ipod is done? I've tried looking everywhere and can't find anything. I even went to a local computer store and they said it's not possible. I can't believe it wouldn't be but they might be right. Anyone have any ideas or places to search for help?

I bought a program from a place called CUCUSOFT (dot com) called "IPOD to PC" at least five or six years ago and have been extremely happy with it. I have used the same program on at least four computers. Just file the registration info they will send you when you download it. It was about $29 when I bought it. They have numerous other programs that do more, like YouTube to Ipod, etc. etc. etc. You only need IPOD to PC. You can get a free trial, but the trial version will not transfer ALL your songs...just some of them to show you how it works.

Computer and Ipod illiterate here but, could you burn songs to a CD and then transfer that way?

She might mean that she doesn't want the iPod Shuffle. That's the cheapest one, but it doesn't do much outside of shuffling everything on it. Ask her how much memory (or how many songs) she wants on it. Both nano and classic do videos now. You can pay extra for the touch screen on the iPod Touch but I don't think it is worth it. Most people will be happy with the Nano which I think stores about 1000 songs now. My husband needs a Classic because he has a huge music collection. I want an iPhone because I hate my phone and like the idea of having internet access, phone, and music all in one little box. Too bad it is still awfully expensive. If you work for a university that has a deal with Apple for their computers you can get iPods for cheaper than retail.

Only iPods can download from iTunes. Podcasts (even the ones available through iTunes) typically are in MP3 format, so they will play on any MP3 player, Apple's or someone else's.

I think there's some kind of restriction on how many times a specific file can be transferred. Say a friend uploads a CD to her itunes, then transfers it to her ipod, where someone hears it and wants a copy. So it goes from her ipod to their computer, and they copy it to their ipod and also burn a disc to share with you. That CD might have been the last "copy" allowance, meaning you can't upload it. But if you can go back to the original CD, the allowance starts over again. I'm not sure what the restrictions are, but I've heard 5 copies. This could be the problem you're experiencing, or it could be due to higher restrictions on uploading a copied CD. I haven't upgraded my itunes, so I haven't encountered that problem. If that's what they've done, I might NOT upgrade my itunes!

I can't tell you how to install the songs from your Ipod, but if your songs are on the PC then move them to a CD or an external HD. All of my songs are from CDs which I convert to MP3s and store them on the PC. I have 1,400 songs converted and would sure hate to go through that process again. When I buy a new PC and reinstall Itunes the songs are automatically in Itunes when I install it. I need to update my IPod. I have a lot of nice songs that are not on it.

Yes - I have done this when my computer hard drive was replaced. You need to load itunes onto your new machine, then you can import from the ipod to the computer.
I ended up googling it and finding on a Mac forum, but this You tube shows how to do it from (an older) ipod to a PC.

dreamn...I think the thing is that the songs are on her iPod, but NOT on the computer. Everybody told me (years ago) that you coluldn't do it from the iPod to the computer...only the reverse, BUT THAT IS INCORRECT. I have two homes and a couple of computers at each and I have successfully done it with the program I mentioned. Much, much easier than burning a CD from one itunes library and taking it to another. I have a folder in my Yahoo email account with all the registration info that I need in case I'm asked to insert my registation data for an update or something. I LOVE the new iCloud features, but not all my songs are bought from iTunes. Any individual songs I've taken from a hard copy CD I own does not transfer except with the Cucusoft program. Try the free version to see now it works.but remember all the songs on the iPod will not transfer with the free version..just a sampling.
