Mmmmmmm, smells good

My house sure smells good. I just made a batch of spiced apple rings and they are cooling in the syrup. Tonight is our monthly APT house pot luck and I brought some I made last month, and several people have asked me if I was bringing them again this month. They are so easy and keep a couple weeks in the fridge (if they lasted that long) I'm also trying a new casserole recipe I found. (nothing like experimenting on my neighbors. LOL) A ham broccoli hot dish.

Just took a walk thru the back garden and what a wonderful smell back there. Discovered it is coming from our LoQuat Tree. This is the second year it has bloomed, but last year it had so few blooms that it didn't perfume the air. It's wonderful. BUT in the front garden we had to do "Nose Patrol" to track down one of those mushroom thingies that start out looking like a white golf ball, and open up into a orange colored cage looking thing. Now that is a smell we can do without.

Thanks Rococogurl, I've heard about Vaska but haven't tried it yet! I agree Persil is the best at cleaning but too expensive for the amount of laundry I do. Also trying hard to find a good green detergent but I can't compensate for not having clean clothes!! Just curious what would happen when you used Vaska being that you have soft water? Before I tried caldera I tried Nellys and it didn't clean my clothes at all they looked clean but smelled like they weren't washed actually had a dirty laundry smell. Reviews for Nellys were mostly all great. Just strange how it works for some and others not good at all.

Fragrance, Felicia is gorgeous! The others are too, of course! I've never given night fragrance much thought, being able to take in the wonderful fragrances would make the task of watering very pleasant though! Your perfect roses never cease to amaze me!

Thanks, Socks. I'm hoping it's an easy dryer fix too. It tumbles but won't heat. Checked the circuit breaker but beyond that I'm a know-nothing. Since it's Sunday I haven't yet contacted a repairperson. I'm going to do a couple more loads of laundry today and get that clothesline working again. It's a gorgeous sunny day, windy and should be in the 50s again. Amazing November weather for Minnesota! My washer and dryer were gifts from parents back in the 1980s. Maytag. Those machines don't owe us anything but I dearly hope for repair and not replace. They don't make laundry machines like these nowadays. For instance my washing machine has a Suds Saver feature. It pulls the used soapy water out of the washer and into the laundry tub. The water sits in the laundry tub until I want to re-use it. Then the washer sucks the used water back into itself for a second load of laundry. Great for doing jeans, throw rugs, dog blankets. Easier on the septic system. I rarely do a single laundry load. I always plan two. One with the new water and one with the "pull back" water. LOL Kessala

This was a hit at the pot-luck tonight.

HAM BROCCOLI HOT DISH

1 1/4 cup dry elbow macaroni
1 1/2 c broccoli fresh or frozen, cooked
1can cr of mushroom soup
1 cup cubed ham
1 cup shedded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup mozzarella shredde cheese
1/c cup milk
1/2 tsp dried onion
1.2 tsp peppper

Cook macaroni and broccoli, separately.
Combine soup, ham,cheeses, milk onion & pepper.
Drain macaroni & broccoli, add to other ingred.

Put in 8 X 8 pan, Top with crushed potato chips or buttered Ritz cracker crumbs. Bake uncovered in a 350* oven for 25 - 30 mn.

We had the left over ham/broccoli hot dish for lunch. Even better the next day.

SPICED APPLE RINGS

6 large apples (I use Braeburns)
Peel, core and slice into rings, putting the rings immediately into cold water with lemon juice.

In a large pot: 3 cups water, 1 cup sugar,1 cup cinnamon candies, like Red Hots.
1/3 cup white vinegar
2 - 3 TBSP of whole cloves.

Bring syrup to a boil. Turn down heat and simmer for about 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
Drain apple rings and add to syrup. Let come back to simmer and cook until almost tender, gently stirring occasionally.
Let cool in syrup.

Just a note, the apple rings 'get as red as the bought ones. I think I'll try adding red food coloring next time I make them.
