Pumpkins?

I asked for people's pumpkins on our local freecycle (for my composting worms) and got lots! I've got some whole ones that are still firm, not soft or anything.

I'm wondering anyone here cooks anything with pumpkin. Do you have a pumpkin soup recipe, for instance?? One guy on the vermi forum says he loves pumpkin fries, and also roasts the seeds.

I'm leaning towards a soup but any other ideas would be welcome.

If I had had a pumpkin this year, I would have tried roasting the seeds. There are a lot of recipes at the site below, the one in the link is the one with the best reviews.

I remember years back that Taste of Home had a recipe for soup that was baked inside of a pumpkin and served with the whole pumpkin.
I never made it but a friend did and really liked it.

Perhaps you could look it up on there site or even on All Recipies dot com.

Congratulations on your success and thanks for sharing what you've learned! I sure do know what it's like to make mistakes and be disappointed, but I am trying to learn from my first-time pumpkin-growing mistakes and have a bigger, better crop next year. I didn't even identify the spotted cucumber beetle until a week ago, and those little guys have probably been munching on my plants for months! And weeds? I have definitely learned about weed competition with my own struggling plants! It's been a great year for learning. For anyone else who doesn't yet know about them, here's a link to the cucumber beetle page on wikipedia. Look at the pictures. There are striped AND spotted varieties. Did you look inside? Is there anything in the puree you use that isn't in the pumpkin? Is the pumpkin in chunks? What makes it different? If it's just pumpkin, yes, you can use it. Use your food processor or blender to puree it, or a potato ricer or masher. The only issue is that if it's not closely packed, you'll have less pumpkin than in a same sized can of puree, and you'll loose more to the dishes by pureeing it yourself. It should still work fine, but you might need to adjust the volume/moisture of your recipe a little.

Um, well No, but refinishing is the plan. Right now when the desk part is down it has my grandmothers childhood bible placed over the spot. ;0) I'm not sure how it would work with the sealer if there was one, but I got a stain off my slate entry with hydrogen peroxide and a nylon scrubbie. It seemed to have been waxed at some point and I did have to apply a little wax, buff to make it look like the rest of the floor. Whatever you do, you may have to approach the entire buffet top and not just the marks.

Maybe similar to sweet potato fries? Worth a try I guess.
You could just cook it an make puree out of it and freeze for future use.Pumpkin bread,pudding(never tried that one),mashed pumpkin(like mashed potatoes).

I like to cook stew in the pumpkin. You have to cook your favorite stew halfway on the stove top as the pumpkin cannot cook long enough to tenderize the stew meat without collapsing. Hollow out the seeds and membrane, pour the stew in the pumpkin, put the lid back on and bake on a wide roasting pan till the stew is done and tender. The pumpkin will be looking like it is thinking of collapsing, but serve the stew with a little of the pumpkin flesh spooned off the inside edges.
