Won't it just slide out since it's coated in slime??? Lol....can you tell I don't like Spam!!!!

I am like rosepetal2 will it not slide out of the can???? Another trick open both ends and then push it out with a spoon.

I, too, have introduced Spam to the pantry. I had not had it in probably 50 years, but a friend mentioned that he liked it fried, so I thought I would get a can. It really IS good fried. The way I removed it was to run a thinnish steak knife around the sides and it slid out pretty smoothly.

I haven't had Spam in over sixty years but do remember the easiest way to remove it from the can was to open both the top and bottom of the can and gently push it onto a plate...or whatever. As I [personally] recall...the top had a key type twist removal system. But the bottom could be opened quite easily with a regular can opener. If it's the same today...give this a try. It's very easy and nothing will be destroyed.

A little hot water run over the can before you open it and it will slide right out.

I run hot water of the top of the opened can - works... My kids love spam casserole - it takes 2 cans of spam - I cut up one onion and add a bit of water to a bowl with the onions and cook till opaque in the microwave. I like to use 2 cans of Campbells mushroom soup with 2 - 3 T of sherry added to which I add the onions and spam cubed. l Cook one pound of spaghetti for 10 minutes, drain - place in dutch oven - add spam mixture . Shred 2 cups of mild cheddar cheese and mix with the warmed spaghetti and spam - Top with bread croutons and heat in oven at 350 ú for 40 minutes... Yummmn

No, it does not slide out easily from the slime. The last three cans we've purchased have had little, to no gelatin (slime) in it.

I hesitate to run hot water on it because it takes close to a minute for the water to get hot in our house and just seems like a waste of water.

The new cans have no seams at the bottom and are unusual shape. I cannot use my opener on it.

I've tried running a knife along the sides without luck. Shaking does not work. Up to this point, I've been cutting off a large piece of Spam at each end of the can and digging it out and the rest finally slides out.

What a hassle. As if eating Spam didn't raise my blood pressure high enough. LOL

I take a fork and slide down the side, and get the tines underneath it and it will lift right out. Love spam diced up with eggs and cheese for scrambled eggs.

There are several suggestions on line. Poke a hole in the bottom before trying to tap it out. Or stick a fork deeply into the spam and pull it out (after poking a hole in the bottom). How about heating water in a saucepan (enough to cover the can), inserting the can for a couple of minutes? Others swear that if you squeeze the sides, the mass will slide out.

Isn't the can included as one of the flavorful edible parts?

I like Spam, and have a couple cans on the shelf. After you get it out of the can, how are you planning to use it?

I remember telling this on that previous past thread re Spam. My favorite is to pretend it is a ham. Score the top, use your favorite basting recipe such as brown sugar, a little mustard, pineapple rings or in this case, chunks, cherries, cloves and bake it.

Open the top and put a small open place in the bottom, turn upside down and squeeze the narrow ends and it should pop out. That is the way I do mine as the cans are rather flexible.

I plan to slice it thinly and fry it with an egg or chop it up for salad. I like to store it in the can so have been hesitant to poke a hole in the bottom.

Love a fried spam with mayo on wheat sandwich.

MIL used to layer it in her mac and cheese.

I just stick the fork way down into the can and skewer the spam and force it out...

I like it sliced it thinly and fried almost crispy and make a sandwich with salad dressing ..John likes it in his scrambled eggs Air Force style....

I use a butter knife. Slide it down one side and pop it out with no problem.

I never store anything in the original can. You must like that oblong can for some reason.

Just had another Spam memory......the cans were used to cut out Aunt Sally cookies. You know the ones.....rectangular with white frosting.

Did this bring back memories! Thinking about buying some this week. Haven't eaten any since childhood. Loved it fried with a slice of onion and mustard on white bread. Bet it would be great on rye bread with hot mustard.

I remembered another recipe I have for Spam.

SPAM BALL

1 can Spam, ground
2 tbsp. minced onion
2 tbsp. sour cream

Mix above ingredients. Form into a ball and frost with the following mixture:

8 oz. cream cheese
4 tbsp. sour cream
1 tsp. mustard
Dash of horseradish *I don't like horseradish, so I leave it out

I have served this and often people don't even know it is Spam. If they ask what it is, I tell them.
