I've had that vaccinium outdoors for years, if I remember right they were growing it many years ago at Bovees nursery near Portland - where it would be expected to get colder than around Seattle. However, I did just have a potted one gallon plant go partly brown in the garage. Have not looked at the one outside. The euonymus is a USNA selection, should be much hardier than needed here. The species does tend to like a hot location, it seems the wrong situation can result in an immature condition late in the year. Also a planting site overhung by trees that appear to encourage weevil activity, like evergreen conifers or birch trees, would be expected to produce much damage on an evergreen euonymus. Around here you really have to watch the proximity of such trees to these and other particularly susceptible kinds like rhododendrons when planting them out. (Yesterday I looked more closely and saw the extent of notching of the leaves of a fairly big hybrid rhododendron planted several years ago some yards in front of a stand of small Douglas firs etc. The nearest live, nearly overhead branches or something like 30' away). Some mildewing of the Japanese species is also fairly prevalent here, elsewhere they may see a lot of this (as well as heavy, spoiling infestations of euonymus scale). When woodland gardening the best plan can be large openings cut out of the existing stand of trees, with minimal intermingling of these and the new plantings. This approach can be seen at the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden. You want belts of trees around the edge that are thick enough to cut the wind and tall enough to cast shadows over the plantings in July, but not necessarily have any of them inside the planted part. High-branching crowns, with nothing between them and the plantings present the problem of pelting fog and rain drip. Perhaps the worst example I've seen was poppyworts almost melting beneath the liquid hail from a Douglas fir.

OK Dee I will join your team!! I always need some enticing! I had a bad start to my morning. I was sitting at a red light about 7:15AM bringing DS to school and then me to work. DS and I kept smelling burning rubber and then all of the sudden, BOOOOOOOOOOM, my tire blew up! I thought we had been shot. Ofcourse the people behind me were none too happy. I wanted to move the car because we ofcourse were in one of the most busy intersections in the city of Salem. DS is saying, no don't drive on the rim, which ofcourse I know he is right. So I put on the flashes and call DH and he says drive it because I obviously can't stay where I am. I drove out of the intersection into a convenience store parking lot. As I was sitting there a friend drove by, bringing his DD to school, so I quickly called his cell and he came back and picked up my DS and brought him to school. I called my boss and said I would be a tad bit late, ofcourse she was fine with that. DH showed up. Called the garage, brought me to Dunkies for my morning fix and then to work. I walked in exactly on time! Can you believe that? It turned out that a spring on my shocks let go on the front end and punctured the tire. Yikes! Anyway, I am sorry to be away so much. I have been working mega hours and am just exhausted at the end of the day. Ofcourse American Idol is on 3 nights a week and I have been committed to that. ;-) Tonight DS has a lacrosse game at 10:30PM, yes PM. This is the day that won't end! I binge watched a few seasons of TWD when my friend told me about the show. I was captivated from the first episode and now I'm a HUGE fan. The premier the other night was great. Can't wait for Sunday nights just to watch. I also like Fear the Walking Dead. That show can only get better, IMO. Interested to see where this season goes as well as the new characters in TWD. While watching, I was amazed at how many extras they had to transform into zombies. The director, while on the Talking Dead show, said it was over 1,000 people but like looked like a lot more than that. I am not generally a zombie fan, and, I agree the show isn't about the zombies but rather, the characters, which is probably why I enjoy it so much.

Horror just isn't for me! I've never watched this show before but after seeing all the hype, particularly from my daughter and her friends on facebook, I was curious what it was that was going to happen. And I am sorry I did! I don't know how I was "lucky" enough to turn it just at that brutal scene. (on the rerun later in the night during commercial time from another show). Should I feel so disappointed that my daughter finds shows like this "entertainment"? What about the people that can actually write a script like that? First of all, not knowing what it was all about, I -thought- the guy with the axe that they kept flashing to was dreaming (nightmaring??) and it wasn't really happening. If I had read that scene, in print, I could never have imagined such brutality. But, now I can!!! This kind of violence should not be allowed on television, or even in movies. Aren't we already desensitized enough? Geez, 24 hours later and I still can't believe it!
