It's just too sad! :(

Back in June, DD's best friend moved in with us, the day she turned 18. Kids always think the grass is greener, huh? I'm so glad when they discover the truth! *hehe*

At the time, we had 2 parakeets, male and female. Within a weeks time, DD's friend comes home with her own parakeet and kept it in her room. I always felt bad for it because she would hear the other two parakeets and holler to them all day long.

Well, in August she went off to college and left the parakeet behind, of course. I knew that was coming. So, I took her and her cage into the livingroom and sat her right beside the other two birds. (Wouldn't you know it, the male bird was very interested in the new female? :)

A few weeks ago our female died. Just found her dead in the cage one morning. Weird. She wasn't but about 2 years old.

I've got both cages pushed as close as I can get them, but the new female and the male are not able to make contact with each other. I wanted to put them into the big cage together but DD's friend says she wants to take the bird back to school with her when she comes home at Christmas time. I don't want to put the two together, then have to separate them later. But it's so very sad to watch them both, hanging on the sides of the cages, obviously wanting contact. It just kills me. :(
