Saw a Good Movie

Last night DH and I went out to a movie. It was a crappy rainy day and I'd spent the day cleaning the oven for the first time in years. Took all day because I cleaned one wall at a time. Anyway, instead of eating dinner at home, we went out to see "The Thing". It got mixed reviews. But we both really liked it. Not for the kiddies, some really grotesque CGI effects. But also not excessively bloody and gross for me. Without giving much of the plot, it is the perfect companion/ prequel to the 1982 Sci Fi movie made in 1982, starring Kurt Russell and directed by John Carpenter. We both emjoyed it, it met all our expectations. DH and I are both Sci Fi fans and we like action movies. .

MY SIL lent us Horrible Bosses, Friends with Benefits and Just Go With It. We didn't like any of them....not our humour, obviously.

I remember going past a movie house and hearing screams coming from inside it was the original "THING" movie way back when Way before CGI Effects
We screamed too after going in
I'm glad to hear the new one was pretty good thanks

Thanks--sounds like something I'd like. Unfortunately, I don't think Amazon Prime offers it. I dropped Netflix when I took on Prime. I'm sure I'll watch it at some point. Hope you're feeling better!

Cyn, not sure why you're disappointed, although it might not be cleaning up at awards season, being recognized with nominations is no slouch and Green Book was nominated for Oscars in Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Film Editing and Best Screenplay. Nominated for Golden Globes in Best Actor and Best Director, Screen Actors Guild nomination For Best Supporting Actor, and quite a few more nominations by other organizations! I loved it, my daughter felt it was derivative and shallow. Agree that the plot was rather hoary however I thought the acting was superb. If Mahershala Ali doesn't win an acting award at the Oscars *I'll* be disappointed.

I can remember the original movie The Thing way back when I was in 5th grade. I think it was in 1950 or 1951. It was in black and white.
I hope to go see the one just out.
My favorite sci-fi movie of all times is Invasion of The Body Snatchers......loved the one with Donald Sutherland.

I really liked the original. Haven't seen the new one yet, but thanks for the thumbs up. I love sci-fi too. I love the Alien movies and the Predator movies, and the Alien vs. Predator movies! lol I like good vampire movies too like Rise of the Lycans, Underworld, etc. Ugh, I just really gave myself up......haha.

Not a Sci-Fi person but we just got back from seeing "Footloose". I really liked it, they kept true to the original story line and I enjoyed all the people they chose as characters. The guy who played Willard (Ren's friend) looks so much like some other actor (who could have been his father) but when the credits ran, his last name was Teller. Can't tell you who he reminds me of - I thought maybe the guy who played in Must Love Dogs and Serendipity. John C someone. Anyway Julianne Hough was really good - she looked like a young Jennifer Anniston. Her parents were played by Randy Quaid (or was it Dennis) and Andi McDowell. Loved the music as before. I will be humming it for the next few days!

We saw Real Steel tonight. Dh and I both loved it. Great movie.

We noticed that alot of families wth kids were going into Real Steel. Don't know the story line but appeared to be a favorite in our local theater. Footloose was only about half full.

I've heard nothing but good things about Footloose...can't wait to see it...I loved the original!!

I've been watching TCM all day...more my speed these days!!

Some time ago, I saw "Avatar" in 3D. Its a great movie for SiFi buffs. The graphics are, er, out of this world.

I read today in the paper that "Footloose" was #1 in Box Office over the weekend and "Real Steel" #2. Good to see both are family-type films. Maybe there is some hope for the future.

After I posted about Willard reminding me of the guy, I googled Teller Footloose and up came a post where Andi MacDowell actually said that Miles Teller reminder her of a young John Cusack! Guess I was right!

sort of sci-fi, but action that's been on showtime, is the 2009 movie "push" , with dakoda fanning...think i've watched it a dozen times, lol...
