Plus don't do this when calling your grandchild at school dismissal time!

Didn't look at my watch and called my grandson.

He couldn't hear me and I couldn't hear him!

What a bunch of loudies!

I forgot about those days :o)

I used to work at a school. When our offices were close to the school, it got very noisy at dismissal time. I kind of missed it when they moved the admin offices about a mile away. No longer felt like I was working for a school.

It's even worse once my boy gets on the bus. Ugh! I just text him until a half hour later. If I can't call him before dismal, but I can't wait (NEED to tell him something), I text. It may or may not get through since that'd require him hearing his phone ding at him.

Doesn't management care about the noise issues going on? We have been incredibly luck I suppose. We had to take a downstairs apt because our dog is 10+ and is sick. The steps here are in the front door and there are 15 of them, no way she could do those. Plus on the bottom floor, there is a great front porch and huge patio so she can just walk out either door. We have never heard the people upstairs, never. I mean once in a while you have a "sense" someone is up there by a little scooting noise or something, but that is it. I was so worried living downstairs because my rule has always been upstairs or now way, but with an older dog there was no way. I will really appreciate my neighbors extra special after reading these posts. Do you all not have statements in the leases that state if you must respect the enjoyment of others at all times you must leave without notice? We had to sign two addendums stating that we understood that we would be asked to leave without notice if we disturbed anyone at any time. Everyone signs this and everyone here knows this is a living community, not a party place. I wonder if these strict rules are not common??? Best wishes to all you fighting this noise! I have lived through it in years past with other apts.

I wouldn't start apologizing until you need to--some people will take that as a sign of weakness and try to walk all over you. How far is the kitchen from the bedroom? It may not be that much of a problem at all. I'd wait until you hear. And until you've actually lived in this place and have some idea of what noise will travel. If you can hear the neighbor's TV pretty easily through the floor, but a quiet walk to the hall outside their door tells you that it's not traveling through the door, then you know the floors are thin, and noise might travel. If you don't hear much, then you can not worry so much. I also find that, since I sleep in the bedroom and my bedroom is under my neighbor's bedroom, I don't hear what goes on in the living room. She can HAVE her TV going at night as long as it isn't really loud; I won't hear it. She can have a conversation in the dining room or living room, it doesn't come through the floor and travel over a room to the bedroom. Of course, since everything is quieter, noise seems louder at night--so you might find that a low stereo and a quiet conversation are safer. (maybe no stereo, but you won't know that till you're there) (my new downstairs neighbors live jazz-band practice does bleed into the living room from the bedroom 2 rooms away, though) (I *think* a solid food processor is less loud than a blender, though there's no way to not be loud if you're chopping ice) (and you could decide to drink whisy source instead of frozen drinks.

We think we have narrowed it to the backflow device. It is loudest if you listen directly to it. Is it unheard of to replace such a thing? The plumber said he never had replaced one before!

@party_music50 In your case being this on the 1st floor and if you have access form bellow, you can fix that from bellow without damaging the surface with the screws. Have someone slightly stand on top of that spot, you will see the plywood movement from bellow, all you have to do is to take a few shims to apply glue on them and slip them between the plywood and the joist, tap them slightly in until they snug and after the dries up there will be no more squeaking. Something like this.

I don't text!

Just didn't realize the time when I called him.

He did call me back once he got away from everyone.

And I forgot how noisey end of school is :o)

And I was a teacher!

Have you ever ridden on a school bus with a load of first graders? The racket is deafening! Also, lunchtime is pretty loud too.

I'm glad I can text. I may never get him any other way. I happily adjusted to him. I text no one but him; quite a lot! The best part is, I get to read and re-read iwhat he says as many times as I want until he is close, then I can hear what he says. It's not a bad deal at all. Try it, you may like the additional connection with him.

Glenda, your title made me remember a moment last night. I was here alone with my daughter's dog, standing in the kitchen making some tea when there was suddenly a very LOUD, rumbling noise. I was positive it was an earthquake (I live in CA,) and the dog and I were shocked into silence for a moment. Then the dog started barking loudly and as I looked to the hanging light and saw it was still, I realized the sound was cats (or something?) running across my roof. What an adrenaline rush!

Yes, schools are noisy places! But it's usually a happy noise, at least. ;)
