Many thousands in PA are still without power. The electric company just said that this was worst storm in their history for downed wires, and some people won't be connected for a week. I know for sure it's the worst storm my house has seen in the 28 years I've lived here. Many of my gorgeous trees are gone leaving big gaps in the landscape. Back out to the yard to continue clean-up.

I heard on the news that PA was hit the worst, but I find that hard to believe, considering what happened in CT and MA, and other parts of New England.

Here, we had a foot of heavy, wet snow, but maintained our power. Some of my friends were without electricity for five days after Hurricane Irene, and were dreading the possibility of losing it again. Today, much of it has melted. The apples still on the trees look no different than they did on Friday. :-)

I wonder if my cousin in Fairfield County, CT has lost power. I wasn't able to reach her by phone.

We were lucky in that our power only glitched about three times and our worst outage was 30 seconds,,but in a couple towns near us they are still without power and the elect company says it may not be restored to late Thursday.

Susan...your cousin's area is serviced by United Illuminating vs my area which is serviced by CL&P. According to the statistics I could find...Fairfield County was only mildly hit when it comes to power outages. That area suffered so severely during hurricane Irene that the trouble spots for power storm damage have been cleaned up. I think that probably saved them this time around...but phone service isn't doing that well anywhere in this State right now. I tried to reach a friend on the other end of my town and couldn't. LOL It's going to take a few days to get this place back on line. I hope your cousin is OK.

I found out this evening that she was without power from Saturday to this afternoon. She has no alternate source of heat. I'm always grateful for my woodstove, but if I were without power for three days I'd worry about the food in my freezer.

We still do not have power and according to the CL&&P website probably won't until at least Sunday. School has been cancelled for the entire week - we are going to be going to school into July if this winter is even a little bit bad! Of all the things we are without, hot water is what I am missing the most!!

Susan...I'm glad she's back on line. I have no alternative heat source either so I understand exactly how she felt...and feels...to have it back. Fortunately...I lost no refrigerated food. Whenever I lose power I always throw all the breakers to large appliances and my water heater so they won't be destroyed if there's a huge power surge when the system comes back on line. My power returned at 2:40 AM Sunday morning and when I awoke to aroma of electric heat...I climbed out of bed..making a quick trip to by breaker box to throw all the breakers back on in sequence...praying that my food hadn't been destroyed. Later in the morning I was elated to find that I'd lost nothing.

Gardnerwannabe...I'm so sorry for the delay in your area. CL&P are not many peoples favorite utility right now but in defense of them...they service an enormous area of CT and help from outside our area has been slow to arrive. I read this morning's CL&P "outage" list and groaned for those like you who have no choice but to grin and bear it. I almost feel guilty for the return on my power...but at my age and health...I take these blessings with deep, deep appreciation for whoever/whatever facilitated its return. Do you wonder whether CL&P will use this experience to push through a rate increase to cover their desire to put service lines under ground? All of the utilities in my area are under ground but it's not a big area and I doubt it had much to do with our early power return. I'm blessing the private hospital that services this upper northwest area as being the angel that facilitated my early power return.

I hope you don't have to wait the full week, Gardner. I'll keep you in my prayers.
