I have read every one of her books and looking forward to her next. She writes the cutest, most touching stories.

"Now You See Her" by James Patterson - I love all of his books!

Got "The Pirates of Somalia", that I'd heard discussed on our national radio about last week, here at the new library a couple of days ago, have got a few pages read: interesting.

When I was in the bank the other day, asked whether they knew the best way to rob a bank, and when they asked my view on the issue, said that it's best to own/manage the bank.

Caused a bit of laughter ... and a slight measure of agreement, I thought.

I just finished a very good inspiring book. The Butcher's Daughter: The Story of an Army Nurse with ALS by Sandra Lesher Stuban (Kindle Edition - Oct 20, 2009) - Kindle eBook She talks about her life, her nursing career and then her decline with Lou Gehrig's Disease as her disease progresses to the point where she is a quadriplegic, unable to do basic things such as eat, talk and breathe. She writes this book using her cheek and a computer. Her son is just a few weeks old when she is diagnosed. Fourteen years later she is still fighting and living life to an extraordinary level despite her disability. I am going to be looking at my own life far differently now.

I just started The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, who also wrote the wonderful novel, The Shadow of the Wind. This one is good, but it hasn't grabbed me and totally taken me in like The Shadow....

I am going to start A Trick of the Light, Louise Penny's latest. She is the best mystery writer. I love her settings, her characters and her stories.

I just finished The Affair by Lee Childs and now I'm reading the two newest young adult books by Rick Riordan in his Olympic gods series.

Rereading "Angela's Ashes" RIP Frank McCourt.

I'm reading WHISPERS by Belva Plain. It is about a not too talked about subject. Physical, verbal and emotional abuse. I've read about 125 pages. It is good and it usually isnt the kind of book I read. I found it in my collection of books and it is an older book

Pam I just got Still Life by Louise Penny I saw it was a series and that it is number one, should they be read in order?
I have not read anything by her yet.

I am reading one of the best books I've read in a long time.."You're Next" by Greg Hurwitz. A real thriller.

DH and I love mystery novels. Just discovered a new author and read his two first books in sequence. He is John Verdon and the books are: #1 "Think of a Number"; and #2, "Shut Your Eyes Tight".

We've also enjoyed the books by Peter Spiegelman -- now reading "Thick As Thieves".

Both of these authors bring a lot of good overall description to the scenes as well as character motivation. Don't read these if you are just looking for 'cheerful, uplifting'.

A book of short stories by Amy Bloom. The title is A Blind Man Can See How Much I Love You. She's an excellent writer.

A little light-hearted fare after just finishing Sue Grafton's "T is for Trespass" -- about elder abuse and stolen identity.

I usually read two or three at a time, but I've just finished Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo, which was very good....I'm a huge fan of his writings. Now I'm reading an Erica Spindlar, Blood Lines, which is a typical lusty whodunit. Nothing great about it. Books I really love are Alexander McCall Smith's, regardless if they are his Botswana, Scotland or his Edinborough books.

Just started the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - a black woman who died of cervical cancer in the 50's but whose cells have lived on in innumerable ways leading to cancer treatments, vaccines, and other medical uses, all without the knowledge of her or her family.

I'm a huge fan of Richard Russo, too, and have loved all his books. Especially enjoyed Empire Falls, which was made into an excellent movie starring Ed Harris, as well as Nobody's Fool, which starred Paul Newman.

I've also read and very much enjoyed Alexander McCall's Botswana books.

i am about to start Unbroken by laura Hillenbrand the author of Seabiscuit.

half way through In The Garden of Beast by Erick Larson.It is about the Dodd family, US ambassador to Hitler's Germany 1933. Very good! Georgysmon would like to hear what you thought of unbroken, loved Seabiscuit.

Ravencajun- yes, do read Louise Penny in order. The characters and their relationships develop. I hope you like her as much as I do.

I'm just about finished with "My French Whore", by Gene Wilder. It's a very short book and I am liking it a lot.

Lily, I used to attend the annual Men of Mystery event that takes place at the Marriott a couple miles from my home.

It's quite a fun day. There are 50 tables that seat 8 or 10 people including an author and his "wrangler". Each author has 1 minute (strictly enforced) to stand up and introduce themselves. Lunch is included (an excellent meal!) and you can buy books direct from the author.

Anyhow, one year I was Gregg Hurwitz 'wrangler' which basically means I sat next to him and helped him in any way I could. He's a fascinating and very nice guy.

I've read Minutes to Burn and Do No Harm. Both excellent.

Jodi..how cool. I never heard of the guy..picked the book from the shelf at the library. I'm actually mad at the author, because every night I go to bed later and later . I just can't put the book down. I'm almost done and finally figured the plot. He's an excellent writer, and I will read all his books now. Husband and son in law are reading this book next.

Reading a Clive Cussler book now. I do enjoy the James Patterson novels too.

"The Confession" by John Grisham

I too just finished reading The Help - that was a great book. Figured the book would be much better than the movie. Intrigued by the Junior League after reading that, I'm now reading The Devil in the Junior League - very entertaining.

I just finished "The Midwives," which I did not like but persevered to the end.

Almost finished with "Shanghai Girls" which is excellent, one of the best books I've read in quite a while.

Socks, I too read Midwives and was lukewarm about it. There was a 2001 TV movie based on the book with Sissy Spacek playing the part of Sibyl. In some ways it was better than the book.

for those that love Harlan Coben he has a new book out called Shelter with a new main character, it is Mickey Bolitar, the nephew of his regular main character Myron. We met Mickey in the last book by Harlan Coben. This will begin a new series of Mickey Bolitar books.

They have also now re-released 2 of Harlan's first books they are Play Dead and Miracle Cure.
We LOVE him so I had to get all 3 of these.

Just finished "The Blind Assassin" by Margaret Atwood. It was all right, but a bit heavy-handed. Now reading "Doc: A Novel" by Mary Doria Russell. It's the story of Doc Holliday, Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, et al. before the OK Corral. Interesting so far.

I just read "The help" also. Enjoyed, but it could have used a little better character development and editing.

I picked up few books at the middle school book fair for me and the kids to read. Can't recommend the ones I've read so far. IMO, the subject matter was too heavy for 11 year olds. Will be starting "The Hunger Games" series by Suzanne Collins soon. I've heard nothing, but good about this series.

Well, I started reading "Port Mortuary" by Patricia Cornwall a couple weeks ago, then got too busy. Was in Wal-Mart the other day and saw "Full Dark, No Stars" by Stephen King and started reading it the other day. Then trying to unwind last night after work I read it again until 10:30! I'm dead tired now. Got up to go to work but got called off...still had to take Alex back to Lexington this morning.
