Hidden treasures (picture heavy)

Many of you know that I have a landscape maintenance business. This time of year as my business winds down I also work for the local Farmers Coop elevator collecting soil samples. This is a great job because I get to see alot of country not visible from the roads. Last Thursday I sampled a farm on the edge of a river valley. Where it was too steep to farm there was pasture. It was a beautiful area wooded with birch, oak, and junipers. I went back there this morning and asked the farmer if I could take some pictures.

The view from the field that enticed me to come back.

A few weeks earlier and the birch would have been coverd with golden leaves.

A large Burr oak.

A dead birch that has become a woodpeckers home.

A little further down the valley is a small lake.

An interesting rock,

with pockests of crystals within.

The only wildlife I spotted.

These are great, Ron! I love the Burr Oak. Never heard of those. That tree alone could be an endless source of photo ops.

Did the woodpecker make that perfectly round hole? Clever woodpecker! And clever you for spotting all these treasures. Thanks for sharing.

Boy, Kirk & Robert...looks like you both hit the JACKPOT..Miscellaneous assortment of mail and parcels piled in the aisle of a baggage car and requiring removal before the mail in the stalls can be "worked"...that's RR lingo! LOL! Looks like you've both kept that train a-rollin'! kirk...your blue bottle tree looks BEAUTIFUL in the snow even w/that "orange thing-y" hanging in it! LOL! Good to see JT pics, too! I keep my 1000+ in about a third of my yard ... they are all pretty much small plants right now ... growing larger everyday ... i dont know if im gonna have enough room for themm all some day! One cereus i have grew like a foot already this year :P (multiple offsets) I like the WOW it gave me a good laugh :D ! I really like the euphorbia ... because it is a sunrise can it take less sun? What is a sunrise exactly? Thanks for the birthday hanzrobo, your too kind! If it does smell like pine sol (im going right now ) i will have it next to me always and i will be smelling it, always (i looovveeee the smell of pine sol)

WOW...I am (almost) speechless...but I'll try (snicker)... That Shell bowl...GORGEOUS! & I know those glass floats (or balls) are expensive...keep an eye out when @ Hobby Lobby...this summer I found 3 (diff sizes & colors) for my garden pond but they were macrame'd tog as a wall hanging (50%) so cost me $6, I think That tea cart...WOW! You are a great shopper, PM! Nice find on that honey! That will be beautiful for lots of your Holiday decor! What FUN things you found, too...that spider web cake stand...w/purple spider...so COOL! And I am coveting the iron birdnest thingy! Such pretty 'beach' summery tables on this forum...I always love 'em ...so that seahorse jar is just a great find, too! TFS, PM...you're going to enjoy...take your time & decor slowly (it's ok)! LOL! Jeanne S.

Hidden treasure bottles???

It adds to the fun if you keep a list of the trinkets you put in the bottle, then write a little poem about each one. That way the recipient can try to find each object. When I was making them, I discovered (as mentioned above) that some objects were too heavy and never surfaced. So befor you seal your bottle, give it a try and be sure each trinket comes to the top at some time. One thing I tried to add to each one was the person's name. I glued alphabet beads together to spell the name. You can find lots of little plastic objects at a dollar store. Just be sure they are small enough to fit in the neck of the bottle.

You definitely have an eye for detail! You noticed things that I wouldn't have. Like Susan, I wonder if the woodpecker made that perfectly round hole.

Love the wildlife, too of course!

Great photos, Ron! Love that you captured the Mother Nature settling in for winter! The woodpeckers make round holes, except for the pileated, their's are oblong. Cool huh?

Sure looks like that geode might be a specimen of the Minnesota agate your State is so famous for, Ron. If you're a "rock hound"...you might ask the farmer if he'll let you take a slice of it. The center area looks the best and would undoubtedly polish up into a very nice piece. Of course...they mine for diamonds in Minnesota, as well...but I don't think that's what that is. ;-) However...the rock does look like it may have been split during an explosion of sorts. There may be a very interesting story behind this property.

I always enjoy your pictures, Ron! I can just imagine how colorful that was a few weeks ago. It's still beautiful! With our daytime temps still hovering around 90 degrees or higher, our leaves are still mostly green. Thanks for sharing!
