Cool water..That would be the Sons of the Pioneers.

getting back to your request yesterday for the song and artist that prompted the release of "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" by Kitty Wells. That song was "The Wild Side of Life" by Hank Thompson. I gave you the artist yesterday, but had to ask DH last night for the title. I think he has everything there is to know about country and bluegrass music in his head even the writers for most of the songs.

I really like this idea from PEI. See the link below. I've been searching for ideas where the College Mixte de l'Experience itself could raise funds. I struggle so much with the idea of asking for donations on my blog. (http://buildingaschool.org) These are from notes to myself... I must second gardengal's enthusiasm for the Pacific Northwest! Truly a paradise for growing many, many types of plants, and the climate is so moderate which allows for a lot of diversity in planning your garden. Unfortunately, I am now living in Finland - which is comparable to Zones 3-4, and am practically having to learn how to garden all over again, LOL! Before moving here with my Finnish husband (the things we do for love!), I spent the last four years happily living and gardening in SW Washington State, and it was absolutely marvelous. I had little trouble with both insect and animal pests, nor did the climate and weather ever pose much of a problem. If anything, the extra rainfall in spring and fall, even showers throughout summer, proved to be quite a boon to both my flower and vegetable gardens... Truly, PNW looks lush and green ALL YEAR LONG! Don't let the misconception that "it's always raining in Washington" mislead you into thinking the more heat and drought-loving plants wouldn't do so well in the area... The PNW, as gardengal stated, can get pretty hot and dry in the summer time, but not to any extremes that would make it unsuitable for more delicate plants. PNW has a very moderate climate that gets a taste of everything, thus allowing for a huge range of gardening potential... Roses, hostas, ferns, and rhodos all thrive, just as do tomatoes and melons, even 'dry climate' favorites like succulents and some cacti do pretty darn well. Overall, it's just such a versatile climate, and an absolutely great area to live in. Lots of nature and wildlife, great fishing (especially salmon), thick and lush forests and rich meadow and farmland, friendly people, great clean air... And EXCELLENT gardening conditions!!! What more could one want? Aside from PNW experience, I spent my whole life living and gardening in Northern California - Menocino and Humboldt regions - and this would be my next suggested 'perfect' gardening area. Great weather and moderate climate, similar to PNW, but less wet and hotter summers, and the only real bad pest problems I encountered were the persistent deer.. but, I admit I was living in the 'wilderness' so it's quite natural to encounter 'wild' problems. Well, good luck in your search, and I just hope you consider the Pacific Northwest as a possibility because it's really such a lovely place to live, play and garden.

sandy - This is just my 4th year gardening, so a lot of what I know is just from what I've read. And not necessarily from experience. But I'll tell you what I'm doing, and maybe it'll help. I'm planning to do a lot of tomatoes this year, and I was going to use a florida weave. But then I figured out how many posts I'd need. And it didn't fit my budget. So I'm going to try a method I read about last year. The guy who developed it posts as dcarch, and I'm adding a link to a discussion where he describes it. He uses 2 posts per 35 foot row. And he packs in a lot of large indeterminate heirlooms. He uses metal posts. But I'm probably going to use wood, since they're cheaper. And I'm modifying his design a bit, to work better for my situation. Last year, to keep animals out, I used a 4 foot chicken wire fence, with a floppy top and 2 foot apron. The floppy top is supposed to keep raccoons and woodchucks from climbing over. The idea is, they don't like climbing a flimsy fence. I also kept the chicken wire fairly loose, to make it feel even flimsier. The apron is supposed to stop most animals from digging under. Although tunnelers can still get in, since I didn't bury the fence. And for deer, I read that they can jump high. Or they can jump far. But they can't jump hi AND far. So inside the fence I have a lot lines from my trellising system that hopefully confuse them enough, so they'll be afraid to try jumping in. The way I understand it, their eyes are on the sides of there heads, so they can see predators in all directions. But it gives them bad depth perception. Try covering one eye, and that's probably how well a deer sees. So if they can't see an easy way over. And a good solid place to land. They'll be much less likely to jump. They know if they break a leg, they're in big trouble. So they'll probably try to find food that's safer to get at, unless they're really desperate. I regularly see a herd of deer grazing around my garden. But so far I haven't found any hoof prints inside. But I've only had this garden for 1 year. And slugs ate most of my tomatoes last year. So there wasn't an awful lot for the deer to eat anyway. I've also read that some people string monofilament fishing line around the perimeter. Deer can't see it, so when they bump into it, it spooks them, and they run away. In theory at least. So if you only have time to try something really cheap and simple, that might work. Alek, I enjoyed looking at all the info on your web site. Recently I saw a NG Y0660 that had been returned to Sam's Club because the buyer really needed the LPG version. It was a bit dented-up in the front, and missing the rotisserie parts. Sam's wanted $700 for it. I started the task of trying to figure out just what it would take to convert it to propane and to repair the cosmetic damage. When I realized that the valves would have to be replaced, as well as the orifices, both doors and one drawer, as well as all the missing rotisserie parts, I almost bagged the idea, but decided to call Grand Hall and check on parts prices anyway. Am I ever glad that I did! The prices were so reasonable that the total cost to convert to LPG and restore the grill to new condition was only $270.00 including shipping. When my offer of $500.00 was accepted by the manager at Sam's I picked up the grill and ordered the parts. I've installed them all, with the exception of one valve that was not correct, a missing bracket to mount the rotisserie motor, and slides for the tank drawer ... basically just "noise-level" problems. Haven't had a chance to use the grill yet, as the weather hasn't been too cooperative, but I'm looking forward to it. My total cost for an "almost new" Y0660 grill is now $770.00. ! ! ! ! ! ! S C O R E ! ! ! ! ! ! There are a few things that I've learned from this exercise that I'd like to pass along: 1) Grand Hall's customer service folks are great! Their policies are pretty good too ... with the incorrect part it was "Oh, we'll get a replacement out today", not "Send it back and we'll see ...". 2) If you know what you need, and how to ask for it, you *CAN* buy the parts to convert these grills from NG to LPG and from LPG to NG. 3) The parts costs are ludicrously low ... the main valves, which include the orifice are only $5.00 each, and the side burner and rotisserie valves are $8.00 each, as they include a little more hardware. It probably makes more sense to just buy the darned things than to do the drilling for the LPG to NG conversion, and it's WAYYY better to buy for the NG to LPG conversion than to try filling and redrilling with smaller holes. 4) Rather than actually replacing the valves, which can be difficult to get off the manifold of the Y0660, it's better to just swap the valve cores and the orifices. I don't know for sure if the valves are common between the Y0660 and the smaller Y0101XC, but the conversion pictures on your site look identical. For example, the main burner gas valve part number is P03222007A for LPG. Also, the valve bodies have the number "0404A" cast into the side. This is the same for the NG and the LPG valves. How does this compare to the part number & valves for the Y0101XC? I have a full set of parts for anyone wanting to convert from LPG to NG. I'd also be interested in that guage that you've got left over from your conversion,...

Why are we not getting songs from the beautiful voice that sang "Out in the west Texas town of El Paso , I fell in love with a beautiful girl...(Wicked Felina or Belina or whatever!)..."

I love to hear that man sing.

I don't get the credit for knowing the answers--I was brought up on country/western music. And when I was a baby, my father took me to western movies at the theatre almost every day. He has always loved movies, and told my mother he went because I loved them so much!

When I was born (the first child), my parents desperately wanted a son. The night I was born, my father--on his radio show--sang "Take It Back and Change it for a Boy"!! (That's an old, old song.) How's that for a "welcome to the family"?????
