Did you check the plug to be sure it is working?

I sympathize. I got my coffee this morning, but the hot water heater is not working!

OH NO!! Having done both...... I'd rather replace a coffee maker, Socks! Sorry!

Been there ... done that -- twice .... many years ago.

I've kept a new back-up coffee pot for quite a few years now in my pantry. Only had to use it once.
Watched the sales and bought a new back-up replacement coffee pot.

I'm starting to think this house has a curse on coffee makers. If all the ones that have died at my house were good for anything, I'd have a quite a collection going. lol

Just take one of your coffee filters and put coffee grounds in the middle and fold it and either staple it or close it with a twisty. Then you can put it in your cup and pour boiling water over it. You make coffee the same way a cup of tea is made.

I know, I know, it is already almost noon, and you have probablly already gone out and bought a new one.

I keep thinking our Krups will die soon. It's about 12 years old. Nice to have hayjud_mn's backup idea in my head! I'd probably just suspend the filter and coffee in a funnel over a pot and add boiling water. (We used to have a Chemex coffee maker.)

dotmom -- Are you certain the electrical outlet doesn't need to be reset? Of course, if it blew, there's probably a problem with the electrical system in the old coffeemaker.

We just buy the Black and Decker ones, they work fine for us, and always on sale.

A month or so, ours did exactly what yours did this morning, Dottie.....nothing! Having a backup in the spare bedroom closet, did the trick till we bought one on sale, shortly afterwards.
Another black and decker for $12! Can't beat that with a stick.
Has the timer, which I never use. The only thing I don't like is the "on" light is green instead of red. We both find it hard to tell if it's on.

My Cuisinart died like that last year....I was heartbroken and ordered another one...decided to keep the carafe (as I had replaced that the year before...$27.00).
I decided to put the carafe in the new box, for some reason I decided to plug it in and low and behold~stupid thing worked...now I have a backup (maybe, depending on it's mood...lol)in the pantry.
Can't live without my CCCOOOOFFFFFEEEEEEE!!!

We haven't used a coffee machine in ages. I use a manual drip coffee filter cone to brew the coffee directly into our coffee pot. This works great for us because we each only drink one cup a day. It's a little more work than a coffee machine, but not much. I would have to grind the beans for the coffee machine anyway and put in the filter, the only extra step is having to boil the water and pour the water into the filter manually. To us, it tastes much better than coffee machine coffee too.

I never thought to make our own coffee-bags. I'll file THAT info for next time.
I went to the local True value Hardware and bought another Mr Coffee. It is pretty much like the one that died, but it has some improvements. I saved the carafe from tho old one, just in case.

Somehow I ended up with a spare coffee maker.

Well, my Keurig makes one cup, for ME and my other for whenever I have company and serve coffee. The large one has been in the cabinet for at least two years.

My BUNN that I'd had almost 12 YEARS sprung a leak. I bought a cheapo Mr.Coffee...that I cursed everytime I made coffee! Then, I went online and found out how to fix my BUNN (all it took was a bit of Plumber's Grease)! But,some friends all chipped in and gave me a NEW BUNN at my Birthday Party last week! I gave the old one (with no guarantee) to my neighbor! She LOVES it!

There's been times mine has died but I've usually had an extra of some type around here. First I had a 4 cup Mr. Coffee that I carried with me back in my traveling days - that was before the motel rooms had coffeemakers in them. I wanted my coffee in the morning. So that worked for a backup when the one at home died. Then it died and I had decided to get a bigger one at home, didn't travel for work anymore and then my Dad gave me my mother's old electric glass percolator and *that* was the best coffeemaker I've ever had. Sadly, and it was a sad day when it died. It perked but the hotplate didn't work to keep it warm. If I'd been thinking I'd have just put it in a "thermos" but I wasn't thinking. Then was on a decluttering binge and tossed it. Didn't even try to fix it, though it was my intention. Wound up with a couple cheapie Proctor Silex $7-$10 units and one finally died, the other is going strong. It won't die. For me the cheapones last longest. Expensive ones didn't last as long though the Norelco did give good service.

A friend of mine is a coffee addict! She drinks pots of coffee a day. She lives on the iron range where the water obviously is rock, er "iron" hard and they go through coffeemakers quite quickly though I think part of it is that hers runs about 18 hours a day and most aren't made to take that. I suggested she go to a commercial coffee outfit and let them provide the coffeemaker and she buy the coffee from them. Price-wise it's at least as cheap as in the stores up there and would probably be cheaper. Anyway, this is getting long, isn't it, so back to my point: One day her coffeemaker died. She panicked, literally, and ran out to the closest store and all they had was, as she put it "one of those old-fashioned coffee pots", aka a percolator. She couldn't get used to using it. (How hard is it?) I tried to teach her but she couldn't get used to it so I found the cheapies on sale again and shipped her two of them so she'd have a spare. Talk about excited! And they did last quite a while compared to her usual coffee pot turnaround.

Geez, Dotmom, car troubles, coffeemaker troubles... when will it end??? :) Speaking of which, how's the car doing? Haven't been around a while so I haven't snooped for an update.

Good morning, friend Cynic and other KT friends. I type this with my fave coffee mug sitting steaming next to me. YUM!!

That was a truly nice and friendly thing to do, Cynic to ship your friend two coffee makers. Years ago, when we lived in Montana, a friend Carol and I drove back to Mn, I stayed with my daughter and she stayed with her mother. After a couple days i talked to my friend and she said she had a terrible headache and couldn't get rid of it. Carol was an all-day coffee drinker, and I asked her if her mother used de-caf coffee. When she said yes, I told her that was her problem, she needed reg coffee because she was having caffeine withdrawl. She got the reg. coffee and after the first cup...poof....the headache was gone.

About my car....alas it is still in the shop. Our car guy's business is at his home and he is so busy and has other cars to take care of besides ours. He assures us, he will find the problem (he has it narrowed down to wiring). It has been over 4 weeks, but he gave us a loaner after 2 1/2 weeks, so at least I can get out to get things done...like buying a new coffee maker.

Now that winter is setting in I'll probably start drinking more coffee and make more at home. My favorite brand is Maxwell House and it seems to me it has way more caffeine in it than other brands. If I drink a lot of it I'll get the jitters where I won't from other brands. So sometimes I'll mix decaf with regular but most of the time now I buy the "Lite" type. I got away from coffee after the incident about a year ago. Couldn't eat for several days, no caffeine, etc and took a while to get back to abnormal. Then, once I started drinking coffee again I'd get it from a fast food drive thru or have it when I'd eat out. The caffeine hit me hard! I went to decaf for a while and then started going to regular. Most of the time I like the taste better, though Maxwell House has a good decaf albeit expensive. Now I can pretty much drink what I want and no problems. And I have new percolators to try out so I need to get with it. :)

Say Dotmom, did you get your Redi Set Go appliance yet? Not sure if I mentioned it before but I thought of you today when I was at Target they had them. $39.95 IIRC. You could hint to Taz that Christmas is coming... ;)

As for the car, our car guy, Ron, said it is the computer and he is looking for a used one. I am surprised that a car that is 21 years old, HAD a computer. It had a computer before i did! LOL

I called my Mom (87) Monday and she told me her coffee maker had died. I told her, well, just go out to WalMart and get a new one. She practically shrieked ("I never go in that store.) Guess she's afraid of crowds, I don't know. But if my coffee maker broke I'd replace it the same day. I cannot live without a pot . I drink 2 cups in the morning, then either make iced coffee or dump out the excess.

when our last one died a few years ago, my Mom and sisters suggested the Hamilton Beach Brew Station, which they all owned. We went to walmart and picked one up. It is the only coffee machine I want now. We absolutely LOVE the thing. I still have that original it still works but when we moved I bought a new one that is a bit snazzier and can fit the tall mugs.

My husband could not survive with out his coffee in the morning! We use Community Club coffee one of the brands I grew up with. The other was Seaport. Good strong dark roast, as my husbands says Louisiana coffee.

We have a coffee maker that must be 20 yr old and is still like new - we use maybe once a year!

I make my coffee in the morning the lazy way - instant coffee. It'll be made one of two ways:

1. Put into cup, instant coffee, a little non-dairy creamer, and a bit of Equal for sweetener. Add water and put into the microwave for 1min 10 sec; Add 5 to 10 more seconds if a hotter brew is desired.

2. Same ingredients, but add boiling water from a teakettle on the gas range. This is done only on mornings when I heat water to make hot cereal.

That's my one cup for the morning. I rarely drink more than one cup per day. I try not to drink caffeine after 1pm since I value a night's sleep. Oh, I can sleep after a drink of coffee if I am tired enough, but I do notice that the sleep quality is not as good.

Both my wife and I are limiting our caffine intake for health reasons: she to discourage cancer (she's a survivor) and me to aid handwriting and fine motor skills, and to give my nerves a break.

Many years ago, I used to down several cups a day while working at a desk and I began to, on occassion, have "sick headaches" on the weekends. After a work week, I often did not drink much coffee on weekends. It took me a long time to realize what was happening. I was having classic drug withdrawal symptoms! My body was reacting to the suddent withdrawal of caffene.

We drink a lot of soda and began buying only the non-caffinated drink. Our lives have been healthier since then. My adult son, reacting to our non-caffene soda, says, "Why bother?" He wants the jolt offered by caffene. He has a computer job.

He is now running into poor sleep and feeling poorly on weekends.

It seems I go though coffeemakers faster than anyone else. The hot plate on mine get rusty and looks awful, so I replace it every couple years.
