Yea I get to buy new bath towels

Okay I haven't bought bath towels for years...Monster-in-law use to give us mismatched towels for Christmas..they were ok towels so what the heck. But she hasn't done that for a few years and my towels are getting pretty raggedy. SO...I'm reading about bath sheets (Nice LARGE towels for us "fluffy" people)..and "how to buy towels" on other websites...and I am of course more confused than when I started. I want nice FLUFFY towels that are absorbant..any suggestions on what to look for if I buy on line...or some store that has really nice fluffy towels.

2 words.....Egyptian cotton! The last ones I purchased @ JC Penney. Reg $20 a towel, on sale, then an additional %percent off,then I had a coupon.....they're a double sheet, sort of woven together, so THICK!

Also like "resort" towels or hotel towels.

I usually get mine at TJ Maxx. The bath sheets, while nice for "fluffy" people, take forever to dry...just a thought. I check out the towels, some are larger than others. If you want to get rid of your old towels, check with your local Humane Society....I think they might appreciate them.

Larissa, the time for Hippeastrum seeds to sprout varies considerably! As an example, I planted an entire 72 cell flat last spring with a variety of seeds. Each row had a different selfing or cross. I noticed sprouts on some within a few weeks, while others took over a month to finally begin. Be patient! If you're floating the seeds in water, don't dump them until at least 2 or 3 months have passed without seeing any sprouts... maybe longer! Due to the delicate nature of the tiny sprouts, and the necessary transition from water to soil, I've abandoned the flotation method of sprouting Hippeastrum seeds. I find it much easier to start them in a regular peat based potting mix, and then move them into a more porous medium after they've outgrown their cell packs and require a bump in container size. For me, this just works better and is easier. In spring, I've got a ton of seeds to start and plants to move around and bump to larger pots... so, for me, starting a flat of Hippeastrum seeds along with all the other flats of seeds I start just makes more sense. For those who have the time and space, the flotation method might be easier. It is a good way to test for viable seeds, though.

Shanghaimom and Christine- If my setup was like yours, I would definitely put the towel rack on the back of the door, but the back of the door of the toilet room seems out of the way and I don't think I want to hang a towel rack on the front of the toilet room door, although it is always open. Babka, what a good idea of hanging a "dummy" towel hook on the right with a towel. I have one more idea I might try before I order another towel hook. I might be able to cushion the bottom hook that holds the towel with foam on the end of the hook and tie it in place. The towel would always cover the foam! I just don't know how the foam will hold up or if it will fall off. It would probably hold the towel better. HaHa Maybe I should have bought one of those train rack shelves and put deep bath towels on top?

FYI, RH extended their F&F sale another day (thru today?). Included in the 20% off sale, are towels, bathmats,..... I use their towels and bathmat in the MB ("my" bathroom--DH uses our hall bath). Mine are white (bathroom has white fixtures and wall tile, pale blue walls, and a black-stained vanity, floor tile, and window shade). I use AHA products, including face wash, and those are no-no's with the dyes used for their colored towels. No problems with the white towels. I have the reversible (cotton) bath mat. It remains thick and plush for a long time (I have three sets of towels/mats that get rotated after each wash, which is done weekly). HTH!

Yes, hang in there, joanie38. Your situation is probably the norm - reno & decorating in dribs & drabs as money permits. College & medical bills are more important anyway. Hope you enjoy your new faucet & sink and that you'll post pics so we can ooh & ahh over it :) Many of my decorating dreams have taken 10 years or more to come into being, & some never came to pass. No regrets, though. Our sons & their friends have told us how happy & comfortable they were in our home, back in the builder's grade/shabby un-chic days. That's better than all the decor money can buy.

If you like to shop on-line, you might consider Overstock.com...I've always been really happy with the products and prices. They often have some sort of shipping deal, too.

I love new towels! What upsets me is some of the more expensive ones I bought just keep on shedding, no matter how often they were washed. Whatever they were washed with came out covered in lint. I got rid of them.

---and I do know not to wash lint shedders with lint-grabbers. ;-)

I buy my towels at Wal-mart! LOL Usually the W/M brand ones.I never pay more than $6.00 for a bath size towel.I never buy the towels with the little woven strip across the end.It always seems to shrink and the towels look out of shape.I have never had a problem with shedding or anything like that.I have W/M towels that I have had for years and they still look great.They are big and thick,not as big as the sheet kind but big enough.I don't wrap a towel around me anyway and prefer a smaller towel for drying.DH likes the bigger,sheet type so I bought him a couple of striped ones a few weeks ago that were on sale for $3.00 each.They are thick and large enough for him to wrap around himself.
I can't see paying an outrageous price for a "name brand" that is no better quality in the long run than what you can get cheaper at W/M.

I like the Egyptian Cotton ones too and I usually buy mine at TJMaxx. JCPenney has nice ones too as Nicole mentioned.

Frankly, I like the cheaper thinner towels. They absorb way more and without all the fancy trim they don't shrink up and get all crooked. Last ones I bought, came from Ikea. $6.00 each for a big bath towel and $2.00 for a matching hand towel. And they have tabs on them for hanging on a hook! I really like them.

I bought six bath towels from The Company Store I bet nearly 8yrs. ago, and the towels are still good. A little lighter orange than when I bought them but not as much as you'd think and no fraying. Only bought them because they were on sale for $8 or $9 each, but according to their latest catalog it appears the towels I bought are no longer available.

I bought some nice ones at Bed Bath and Beyond. They are at the front of the store, for $4.99 each and 4 wash clothes for the same. Wish coupons I got them each for $3.99.

I really like them.

I don't like the bath sheet size at all - they take way too much time to dry whether hung on the bathroom towel rack, or in the dryer.

I agree with the Egyptian cotton, though.

We only use bath sheets in our bathroom, love them. Got most of them at WalMart and they seem to dry just as fast as 2 smaller towels. And they don't shed much, either. I think we have about 4 sets and they've all been used for at least 10 years.

Vickey I have an addiction to new towels ! I don't buy real expensive ones, but I do buy new ones often, and I have found some I really like at Walmart too. I have to pay about $7-$8 for them, and I just pick up one or two at a time and now I have a nice collection.My husband's are green or light tan, and mine are dark purple and lavender.
I also got some cute ones that are a cream color with some butterfly appliques and some with lions that have yarn manes that are really cute.
We had lots of guys here over the week-end and having all these extra towels really came in handy.

This thread is timely. Where can I buy towels similar to the old 'Royal Velvet' towels made by Fieldcrest?

I still have two from a wedding shower (42 years ago, folks). They're now in the rag bag, but geez, they have outlasted a LOT of newer sets.

They have no 'indented band' to shrink (and just be useless). They are terry all the way top to bottom.
