OK I am going to chemo soon and the doctor told me no dieting so I just ate 5 Reeses Minature cups and 4 Snickers minatures...I am playing ms piggy and this is post #30?

I have collected candy lily seeds of mine for a local grower for a couple of years now- and have not noticed the alarming amount of light colored seeds in pods till this year. I know my plants were stressed from the lack of rainfall- and heat this year. I think this may have affected the pods development. I have been gathering seeds from a few selected plants for myself as well- and found nearly half in one pod was the light buff to brown color when the over ripe bursting pod was picked- although- they have turned "black" like normal seeds when allowed to set in a bowl to "dry" before packaging up. I am going to grow these on- as I do believe they will be viable seed. Had they stayed a golden or buff color- I might have still tried it to see what would happen, but with less hope for a good result. In general, candy lilies are great re-seeders- and are easy to grow in a full sun well draining area. I am hoping that the nature of the plant will continue- even if seed production was just a bit off due to stress.... I have found great luck in harvesting viable seed by waiting till the seed pod ruptures- and then cutting the stalk off a bit below the pods and putting stalk and all into a paper grocery bag in a cool dry place for a while, and later, cleaning the seeds from the pods and packaging up. PWM, I'm assuming you'd like the amounts converted to something other than metric? There are many conversion tools on line, one gave me these conversions. Islay, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong: 450g (2 cups) dark brown sugar 175g (3/4 cup) ml evaporated milk 30g ( 2 tbls) butter 1 tsp vanilla extract 55g (1/4 cup) chopped walnuts. Butter a 20 or 30 cm (8 or 9 inch square) tin. In a saucepan, stir together the sugar and milk. Boil until temp. reaches 112 to 116°C. (232-240F, soft ball stage) Or, until a small amount dropped into cold water forms a soft ball that flattens when removed from the water and placed on a flat surface. Remove from the heat, stir in the butter, vanilla and nuts. Continue to beat until the mixture loses its gloss. pour into prepared tin, score with knife and set aside for about 5 minutes. Cut into squares. I hope this helps. Annie

Thanks Glenda...this was supposed to be just a silly post and to up the threads on the boards.

Moni...I go this Friday to have a Groshong Catheter inserted and my chemo starts the following Thursday..I will finish it up the 3rd week of January....I go 3 weeks on and 1 week off for what is called 4 rounds ....Yikes I'm really nervous but gotta do it...

I love Snickers but haven't had one in months! Can you eat a couple for me? Wishing you an easy time of it with the chemo treatments. My neighbor had chemo and he reported that he wasn't nauseated at all. You will be in my prayers. Bettye/AZ

Sounds like you are going through CMF Chemo. Correct me if I am wrong!

Enjoy your Snickers and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups...eat whatever you CAN now and throughout your treatments.

However, you may want to eat some Cream of Wheat and dry toast the morning of your Chemo. Drink lots of water during and after the treatment. Include high iron foods in your diet.

I took and still do "VitAlert", #1 Energizing Multivitamin" totally approved by my Oncologist. It is a complete, high potency formula with minerals and energizing herbs. I buy it at Wal*Mart and I take three tablets a day. DO NOT take them before bed...I found it "hyped" me up too much!

I discoved while on both Chemo treatments (1999-CMF & 2003- Taxol) when I was extremely thirsty, it was nothing for me to drink 5 gallons...YES, 5 gallons of water over the week end as my treatments were on Friday...plain water got "old" so I would put fruit in it...melons of any kind, oranges, lemons, limes, strawberries...I would "smoosh them" and then push it into my 16 oz water bottle. And, I never went anywhere without my prepared bottles of water.

In the back of my mind.....they are putting this poisen in my body; I am going to get rid of it and the cancer as soon as possible. Obviously it worked!

A "port" is a good option....makes blood draws and receiving chemo so much easier!

I would guess Mombondo that you probably know more about it than I do but as I understand CMF is a combo drug right. My chemo will be Carboplatin/Taxol combo which is pretty common combination for Lung Cancer.

Ruthie, your spirit shines through on this post...you silly..#30, you say? Tee Hee! I've been off the puter for a couple of days...darn back spasms.

Yikes! Your chemo schedule is a busy one! I had the 'gold standard' treatment for my colon cancer; I was on for one week, then off for three. I did love to hear them say, "No dieting!"..not a problem, right, Ruthie? ;)

Hope they give you a little bag of goodies to keep the nausea at bay and to boost your energy..sure did help me.

I'm still hanging in there with you, Ruthie. Bet you'll have some new chemo buddies in no time; what a blessing they can be, too.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you Ruthie. Granlan really did good and I'm hoping the very same for you too. Keeping your strength up is paramount so I'm glad they said no dieting. Load up woman and pass the Reeses cups please. :)

Good luck to you Ruthie,i'll be right behind you.I start my chemo in about 2 weeks.Just saw the oncologist on thursday.I'll have taxotere,cytoxan,and adrimycin.I am not looking forward to any of this,but it has to be done.

Hang in there and let us know how you do.
