Wondering What You All Are Doing Today?

I have been busy today, I had the baby for a few hours. That was so much fun. She is now 6 months old. I fed her a jar of bananas and she drank her bottle of milk. I also baked a great big pan of sweet potato casserole, have a 11 3/4 inch black raspberry pie in the oven and a 10 inch peach pie in the oven and then when they come out a 10 inch cherry pie will go in. The cherry pie is for us this weekend, the others and the casserole are for our church dinner tomorrow. I also have put together a big pan of pork barbecue to take for the church dinner. It is 86 out now, but I have not been outside since early this morning when Izzi and I took a "big rig" ride around the property. I hope everyone's day is going well, I know some are having a bad day and I will be thinking of you. Care to share your day with us?

College football season started today. We always look forward to that. FSU is playing now. We watched some of the Auburn game and next will be UF.

I'm so jealous! I wish I had a baby to play with. Alyssa is getting to that really cute stage now and I bet you have the best time with her. And it will just get better over the years.

Wow, Sue, I've never seen a pie pan that big. You sure have been busy in the kitchen--as usual. I did make a batch of peanut butter cookie dough and some party mix this morning.

Hope you have a good lunch at church tomorrow. They must love to see you coming :-) I think I'd have to get dessert first because I imagine yours go pretty fast.

I have never had a pie pan that big before either Patti, but I spotted it recently at a barn sale and snatched it up for $1.00. You know some of the people at church do get their piece of pie and bring back to the table before time to get our regular food. I guess they think if you snooze, you lose!

One way to force the plant to sprout from the ground is to cut it very low in spring, let there be just four-six inches of cane left. Another one is to give the plant something that promotes growth and new shoots. If you have nettles and comfrey growing in your are you can fill a large bucket or container with a lid with these herbs, and fill up with water and let it stand for a week or two. This will smell very bad but will give your roses an extra kick behind and grow better than any fertilizer. Is is about the same as many do with alfalfa, that is great stuff too. The type of liquid organic fertilizers with seaweed and other stuff can do wonders for roses too. I notice a very positive effect on weak plants, more growth and flowering. Very good for reviving neglected plants. I also believe in composted cow and horse manure; full of micro organisms and digested weeds and plants that is great for soil and roses. They will not burn roses, even "fresh", but can sometimes need extra nitrogen to start breaking down and release nutrient available to the roses.

Right now I'm chuckling at the short dog/urine collection stories. Having boys, and thankfully I've never had to collect a sample, I hadn't thought of those problems. Gazania, you're hubby is a jewel! And Marilyn; I'll never look at my soup ladle in the same light again! LOL Out here on the wind-swept prairie, I'm planning (another) day of sorting/tossing/arranging in the sewing room. I'll fire up an audiobook on the iPod and keep entertained and motivated that way. Right now I'm "reading" No Rest for the Dead.. It's excellent. One of the book's sites says "More than twenty New York Times bestselling authors team up to create a first-rate serial novel - a collaboration that combines the skills of AmericaÃ¢ÂÂs greatest storytellers to produce a gripping, spellbinding mystery. Ms. L layed the VERY LAST tile in the basement bedroom yesterday. The floor is so lovely. She will hopefully come tomorrow to do the grouting. Once that's dried and sealed I can start furnishing the room. For right now I'll be using the twin bed that's been in the sewing room, freeing up needed floor space in there, and one of the night tables from the sunporch. Got off to a bad start this morning! Pattie43, I so empathize with you. I am not a morning person. Never was even when I was young and now that I'm old and decrepit, that is just the way it is. The maintenance man was across the street making some kind of noise at 7 o'clock this morning. That is very unusual and I chastised him for it. I had breakfast, checked out the TV news and fell back to sleep. I thought I had a Dr. appointment this afternoon, and realized around noon, that it is tomorrow, so that left my afternoon free. As I mentioned in another post I spent some time watching a building being demolished. Then I had dinner which was just left overs that I ate cold. Then I went out to the porch and a neighbor stopped by and brought me a dish of Hot Fruit Salad. I went across the street and talked to one neighbor for a few minutes, then stopped in at another neighbors and as I left she gave me a dish of a casserole she had made, and two beautiful local peaches. It was 9:30 by then so I watched the last half of Nancy Grace and snacked on blueberries and banana in Cool Whip. I've been on the computer since. So that is "A day in the life of ME." Good night. I have this fantasy of installing a bookcase / shelves next to a doorway or opening, but placing them 3" or 4" away from the wall. And then slide big flat things BEHIND the shelves (that's why "next to a door," so there's room to slide them out). And maybe install ledges on the back side of those shelves to hold those flat things up off the ground, or maybe make it possible to store one of them higher up (double-deck). What made me think of that was this item from your list: 2 folding tables (when guests come over) Set some deep shelves (as deep as the folding chairs are wide) by the door to the house (if there is one, or any other door) far enough out from the wall to fit those tables, and then install one ledge low down on the back side of the shelves so you can slide one table in to rest on it, and another ledge above it to set the 2nd table on. You could install those big utility hooks I linked to above, or a 7" ladder hook, on the end of that bookcase to hang the 6 folding chairs on, some low and some high. I don't know how many folding chairs would fit in the 7" depth, but it would be one way to keep them from falling over, etc. And they'd be close by the door and easy to use. Not sure if all 6 would fit; you'd probably need 3 hooks, and I don't know how easy it would be to maneuver chairs off the top hook (Most are 38" high--so if you put the lowest set of hooks so the support is about 39 inches above the floor (not to lift so much as to keep them from falling over) and the next set 39" above that, then thelegs of the top set of chairs would be 78"/6.5' from the floor, so most people would be reaching over their head to get them--not so smart from a safety point of view, probably. If there are stairs, you could reach them more easily, maybe. Or experiment with hanging them upside down from the cross-brace, and that might let you control them better when taking them off. EDITED TO ADD: I just looked it up, and most steel folding chairs are 2" thick when folded, so 3 would fit on each hook. Here's a 7" ladder hook. Not so good for bikes because it doesn't have much of a front "lip" the way the one above does. Trying to beat the heat by staying inside with doors and windows shut and window blinds down. I got so bored, nothing on TV during the day but did find a couple movies on cable to sit through. Every once in awhile I went out on the back porch for air and a bit of sunlight. Very warm. Right now it's 89 at 6:42pm., doesn't seem quite as hot though.

Very very hot and humid here.
I had planned on buying a half-bushel of Roma tomatoes that were on sale, started yesterday.

It's to turn cooler Monday and the rest of the week, I had my heart set on making sauces and roasted tomato soup out of the tomatoes.

Sign on the door saying that there's an extreme shortage of Romas and they didn't know how much they'd be able to get in. None there this morning and I spoke to the manager and they aren't getting any in till Tuesday. There goes my Holiday Monday plans. :(

We have a couple of big festivals here each Labor Day weekend so we got up early and ran errands so we could go! We hit Tractor Supply for sunflower seeds that they have on sale, then to Penneys so I could order custom roman shades for the family room. And finally to the festivals! One is a large Art Festival, lots of artisans selling their wares, then to the Ethnic Festival for music and great food.

There is one more in the area, it is huge, called Forest Hills Homecoming, we may hit that tomorrow!

We went out with another couple for an event. Our family all went camping but we are enjoying the peace and quiet. Did the camping bit for many many years as we started when oldest son was 9months, but I had camped for years with Dad and Mom. Went from tent camping to a big 5th wheel to motels as DH's health is not the best now.

i've been cleaning up and out paperwork all day...in between a load of laundry....stopped to go to church...now I'm back and gonna continue on with this mound of paperwork that has been haunting me for about 3 years...most of it is going in the trash but I'm running across things I'd forgotten about!!

For several years, the Home where my sister, Annie, lives has an open house on the Saturday before Labor Day. They have an antique car display. They also have a bake sale where all the workers there bring in their homemade items. A guy that has a van set up with jukeboxes plays 50s/60s tunes. They have a lot of door prizes. This year they had a country western band play for about 2 hours. They bring in a 'chuck wagon' that serves barbecued pork sandwiches, hot dogs, coneys, sloppy joes, macaroni and potato salad, baked beans. They also have a chili cookoff in the morning, then you can share in any/all of the entries. Drinks were regular iced tea or sweet tea, lemonade and coffee. This is all topped off with homemade ice cream.

Even with the heat so bad here today, there was still a big crowd. Annie even enjoyed seeing some of the cars/trucks.
