Most likely, my fun project for the weekend will be trimming trees and shrubs in my yard. With all our rain, things have gone NUTS!

Well, I'll have to water everything, as usual. It's extremely dry here, so all is suffering. I have four rain barrels and they have been empty for the last month. Little town near here will be having their "city-wide" garage sale on Sunday, so that will be fun. It is a tiny town, but nearly the whole thing is food oriented....they do VERY well during the tourist season.

Weekends are mostly quiet! So that's what this one will be.

In the morning I will most likely go to a church rummage not too far away. After that I plan to can the green beans I picked today. I did not go ahead and start canning today because of the bad weather. I did not want to be in the middle of canning and the electricity go off. Hopefully on Sunday I will go to church, come home and just piddle around in my sewing room maybe or take a nap :) My plans always can change though.

Sjerin thanks for asking. She is doing well considering. She is still looking for a job and I think Im going to have to help a bit with food etc. My sister and her husband are paying her rent for a couple of months. We spent last weekend together at my sister's house along with extended family members and she just looked happy for the first time in several years. She is clean and that is the most important thing right now. Next week?? Who knows. Again, thanks for asking. Satine

17 mile ride to the pre registration booth for the local bike clubs fee ride for Sunday. Then of course, I will get to ride home. :)

Sunday I will drive up. I volunteered to help at both the pre registration and the real thing on Sunday morning. After the registration closes, I will ride the 42 mile ride on the tandem with Mel.

Thank goodness the cold front came through. It will be so much nicer to ride when the day doesn't start out in the 80's.

Our weekend started early.

Yesterday (Friday), DD took off from work, came down to our place for breakfast, and then we went 'down the shore' to Ocean City (NJ) for the morning. We got some cinnamon buns at Mallon's (yum), and walked the boardwalk for a few hours. Lovely day, but very hot. On the way home, we stopped at Red Robin for lunch, then popped into Michaels and the Christmas Tree Shop. Was a nice day, and we always enjoy spending time with DD.

Don't have a lot of plans for today or tomorrow--a bit of cleaning, might make some caramels if the humidity ever lifts. Probably will head to home depot and Michaels tomorrow, but otherwise, weekend will probably be rather quiet.

Well, I was hoping to work on the backyard today but it's pouring rain and I'm sick. I also was supposed to take Duray to Lexington to see about his cell phone. Not sure I feel up to that either. Tomorrow I have to work.

We'll watch college football, our usual fall Saturday. The weatherman's calling for rain all weekend and we just had a big storm--I don't know if I've ever seen that much rain and wind at one time. Still looks like we may get more. So no outdoor plans. We're supposed to cool off. Sure hope it does.

Satine, did you enjoy the art exhibit and dinner last night? Sounds like a nice, relaxing evening.

Phyllis, I'd love to visit that little town you were talking about. Sounds like my kind of place--lots of restaurants :-)

Staked tomatoes Fri, have more to do but it was going to rain ... and did, plus got somewhat cooler: I've been sleeping in skivvies, sometimes with a sheet, last night pulled up the sheet part way through, plus an afghan.

Garden wet ... pulled off half a dozen or so tomato worms this morning, as I dislike seeing just stalks on the top of tomato plants.

Some beans need picking today, to take to the churches tomorrow, plus squash, zucchini, possibly a few of the last of the melons, cabbages, tomatoes and likely some radishes.

Pick beets, with tops left on, broccoli, Swiss chard and lettuce on Sunday morning to avoid wilting ... and often arrive at church about the end of worship.

Don't know how much of that I can do, after the rain, but it has faired off now, but won't dry as quickly, due to the lower temperature.

Don't appreciate having to pick beans after rain ...

... and what's a descriptive word to relate to picking beans?

Boring!

Lots of weeds to pull, some of them taller than I, in my better that kilometre/3/4 mile of garden rows.

Sometimes I take leftovers from the churches to one of the social agencies: Salvation Army, Women's Shelter, Mission Services, that operates several hostels, or Ark Aid, that offers a drop-in centre including supper for disadvanteged/homeless.

Sometimes visit son and his partner Sun afternoon, but often in summer he's away at a festival, fair or other gathering, blowing balloons into shapes for kids, in which case it's often on Monday.

And the landlord plus another friend gets part of the garden stuff.

Actually, when one is retired ...

... every day is weekend.

That's just wonderful, Satine!! It was a lovely surprise to read your response since the last I heard, she wasn't doing as well. Yes, it would be great if you could help her out with healthy food, especially now. When is she due? Is she up for some specific job training now, (community college cost is the most reasonable,) that could get her a decent job when she's ready to go back to work? Perhaps that's jumping the gun. What nice news with which to start my (West coast) day!

Sjerin, she really is doing better and I hope she continues doing well. I am concerned of course about her health (she had pneumonia about two weeks ago) but I walk a fine line because I just cannot allow myself to become too involved. Im sure that sounds cold but I know it is best for both of us. Any way for now things are good. Hope you are having a good weekend. Satine

It absolutely does not sound cold, Satine--I and everyone here I'm sure, understand how careful you have to be. You will never know until more time has passed when she actually turned the corner. Any chance she's still seeing a counselor? I really hope that is happening as she slowly works through the trauma of so long ago. You are a GOOD mommy!!

Ohhh, I didn't mean to make you cry--I'm so sorry. And I'm sorry that today was difficult--why Sundays? You've sounded quite well lately and I've hoped that your life and dd are a little better these days. I sure do feel for you, Satine, and keep you and your dd in my prayers.
