Went on an early morning hike and found dozens of glistening spider webs ... and a coyote.

White-lined sphinx moth. In my 60+ years I have never seen one until yesterday.

I cannot figure out how to post more than one picture at a time, I have more of this insect.

The Beetle I posted was in the stump of the tree that was cut down, and was enormous. At least 1 1/4 inch wide and just over 2 inches long.

there were lots of disabled vets on the ragbrai bike ride. Here, I was trying to get a shot of Mel, and didn't realize, I got him giving the vet a thumbs up.. till I saw the picture on the computer.

The tree guys said that that beetle wasn't responsible for the tree dying, a different (and much smaller ) beetle, a pine borer was at fault.
In July you could stand in front of the house and hear the bugs munching away on the tree behind the house.

The other bug, the green and brown spiky caterpillar, one of the tree guys found with his elbow. As in he bumped the leaf it was on, and felt a strong stinging/burning sensation. I knew what it was because I had researched stinging caterpillars a couple of weeks ago when I found one with the back of my neck. Although the one I found was a different species that looked nothing like this one which is called a Saddleback Caterpillar.

This is a Virginia Tiger Moth caterpillar (sometimes called a yellow wooly bear) eating the flowers of my Eupatorium Wayside (perennial ageratum).
