FWIW, I don't think you can buy anything but a flat screen anymore. I've been looking for a replacement TV for my bedroom. The one I have is going out. I also want to hook one up in the basement, so will be watching the replys you get. No hook ups down there, so, I guess I can just use some co-ax cable to do this, like you have?

Leslie, you can still buy tube TV's, I've been looking online at all the electronics places. I just don't really want one.

You might try thrift shops for a small TV. I see them quite often for $5. I don't know how a monitor would work, but it would require speakers too for sound I'd think.

Yes, a monitor would work. All a television is, is a monitor with a tuner antenna or a cable connector, (or both).

Since your kitchen tv is connected to the living room one you do not need the antenna that so many came with.

You do need to be able to connect it for cable so if you choose to by a secondhand tv make sure you check to make sure there are enough connectors on back. Most of those that end up in the secondhand stores are there for the very reason that they are old and do not have any/enough connectors.

I bought a tube TV cheap, at my local appliance store. It was only $120 brand new.

When my little white 13" kitchen TV/VCR went out. I got a newer model off of Craigslist for $10.

The better answer would be a monitor could work. Not all monitors would work. Most have a 15 pin video connector. You'd need a monitor with a/v inputs AND a/v outputs from the satellite. There are some monitors that have RF inputs, but I'm assuming you're referring to computer monitors rather than video monitors. Possible, but not common. Then there's the issue of audio which will vary by the monitor. So it'll depend on a lot of different variables and there's no one answer.

Your simplest and cheapest solution is a cheap tv. If you get one with a stereo headphone jack you could connect some computer speakers (or any speakers for that matter) that would give pretty decent audio.

I have a 13" tv in my kitchen and the sound on it is great. I think I paid $99 for it about 10 years ago.

Thank you so much for all the advice and opinions. Every time I walk by the kitchen I see this big empty spot and it's bugging me. I imagine I'll be heading to the city this weekend to explore my options.
