Ah, that's the dog I was speaking about Rob. They just said 40 on the news this morning.

GD's must eat anything that's lying around. I know that Raven had a Dane, I hope she chimes in with her experiences! LOL

It's ok they said 40, I just was even more amazed. That's a lot of socks!

A friend from college had an great dane that would normally stay outside in the yard when they were not home. One winter though it was an especially cold day, and they decided to leave him in the house while they ran to the store to get something.
When they returned 15 minutes later, the dog had opened the upper kitchen cabinets, pulled out a 5 lb bag of coffee creamer, started eating it, and must have inhaled quite a bit since he choked to death.

or my sis. neighbors? he was afraid of storms and would try and "hide" under the sofa? (which was just his nose, lol)

Sparky has eaten all kinds of things. People are always curious what he has been up to so now he has a Facebook. The photos and comments are pretty funny! His latest thing is stealing the canister of fish food flakes.

Yikes, somebody needs to clean their house!

I have been the very lucky owner of several Great Danes and I just can't say enough good things about them. But....
I did have one that for some unknown reason pulled down a giant size box of laundry detergent, ripped it open and slung it all over my hall in front of the laundry area. Apparently he got some in his mouth, ran into the bathroom drank the toilet dry and came running through the house blowing bubbles!
I almost died it was so funny but I was extremely concerned health wise because I didn't know how much he ingested. I called my vet immediately and he was just amazed, but said that he most likely didn't ingest much because of the taste and burn, but I brought him in any way. He was fine. I don't know how he didn't get it in his eyes, a big concern, but nope all clear.

I have so many stories about my dogs I should write a book.

But the Danes were all pretty good. The worst one was the Afghan Hound! Omg the stories about him! My vet at the time, who got the dog for me, said he could write a whole chapter in his book about Ritz! Like the time he ate the entire Christmas ham! On Christmas day! Try finding another nice ham on Christmas day! Or the time he ate a tube of super glue, I was shoving ice down his mouth to keep his teeth from gluing shut, calling my vet who literally said he had to see this and rushed over, only to find I had super glued my hand to the phone when I called him because I had the stupid stuff every where! The dog of course was fine!

40 socks is quite a stash lol. I bet they thought the washing machine was eating them!

Raven, my hubby and I are sitting here laughing so hard over your two dog stories. I bet you could write a book on the hilarious experiences you've had with your furkids. We could just mentally picture the whole thing that both of your dogs did.

Only two of the many dogs we've had ever got into things and it was bed pillows. We'd come home to find that it "snowed" foam in our house. Of course some would rip up their stuffed toys and we'd have fiberfill everywhere. Gotta love those furkids.

But I was not a happy person that Christmas morning, we were the ones taking the Christmas meal to my mother in laws house an hour and a half away! We were a tad bit late with a much smaller ham. I tell you one thing he was a thirsty dog! Everything in the house that had water in it was dry, and we had several bathrooms! Not to mention the giant dog water trough.

The same dog, Ritz, ate the entire turtle cheesecake at a different Christmas. Now I am not leaving things out on the table or anything, the ham was in a huge metal covered roasting pan on the very back of the stove.
The cheesecake was way up on the top shelf in the kitchen cabinet.
This was one of those big cheesecakes from Sam's Club that has the little papers between each slice.
So I had my whole family from Louisiana at my house in Oklahoma for the holiday.
We get up Christmas morning to find the box ripped to shreds the cheesecake is no where in sight and my 2 Great Danes are hiding their faces. I am standing there with everyone and here comes Ritz just strolling in like what's happening folks? All innocent. And stuck all over his long floppy ears are all those little papers from the cheesecake! BUSTED!
I never had any doubt who the culprit was.

LOL!! You mean the ham and the cheesecakes weren't Christmas presents?!?!?! I'd love to see a picture of Ritz with those cheesecake papers :-) I know, its so NOT funny at the time. Once Sparky ate a box of glitter crayons. He had sparkly poop for days!

Oh these are funny!!! Raven did you have 2 Great Danes AND an Afghan? Wow.

Oh.......I can just picture that dog with the cheesecake papers stuck all over his ears. Raven do you have any pictures to post of your dogs? Ivan and I are animal lovers. When we lived in Ohio we had a kennel license as we usually had 5 or 6 dogs (plus many cats). Now, we are down to one cat of the 9 we brought with us when we moved to Georgia and this past week our dog Kaicee died. She would have been 12 in October. This is the first time we've been without a dog in the 44 years we've been married. I'm really debating about getting another dog. Ivan is 80, I will be 75 on the 15th of this month. I just don't think it would be fair to a dog unless we got an older dog. Too old to handle big dogs any more and of course, it is the big dogs that I love.

Yes I have lots of pictures of our various dogs over the years. Some I have to dig up from the picture boxes but I have lots of pictures of my true sweetheart our last Dane, he was a black and white harlequin. Amazing dog, never could replace that one. I absolutely loved all of them but we had a very special bond.

Yes I had 2 Danes the Afghan and another dog that was part lab and part Catahoula Leopard Dog, she was black and white stripes over her whole body, very unique and pretty and a very good dog.

Two of my Danes were from the same parents but exactly 1 year apart, so they weren't litter mate brother and sister but they were blood brother and sister. The female, who was the younger one, her mother had moved the litter out of the welping crate and then she accidentally laid on the litter and all died except the one. The mother went into a severe depression and would not nurse the remaining pup. The breeder, who was a good friend, called me and asked me if I could please take the pup which was one week old and try to save it. I said of course. That baby fit in the palm of my hand it was so tiny. With the help of my great vet I became mommy and my male Dane, her brother was immediately in love with her and extremely protective.
We were very successful, she lived 12 years and was very large well over 100 lbs. Her brother, who was the picture of health, solid muscle, one of the prettiest Danes I have seen. He laid down under his favorite shade tree, he was three years old, and I found him there dead. With his front paws crossed like he always laid. I nearly lost my mind. I was home alone. My vet said it had to be catastrophic, stroke or heart. No evidence of any kind of poison or anything at all. He had just been in the house with me, he wanted to go out and he went right to that tree. I had a really strange feeling and went out and called him and he didn't come running. It was devastating to us and to his sister. I really worried about her in case it was something genetic but she was never sick.

It's so hard to lose them but Lord I loved them all so much.
I will post some pictures. I wish I had thought about taking pictures of Ritz with the papers in his ears but I was not thinking of that at the moment lol.

I really wish I had a hidden camera that captured him getting that cheesecake! He was extremely tall when he stood straight up on his hind legs but I think some jumping had to be involved.

It really hurts when we lose any of our furkids, but we have to be thankful for the years that we did have to love them and be loved by them.

This is my last Dane he is a harlequin his name was Magic. He was the most amazing of all our animals. If you look closely you can see our little girl dog who is a Toy Fox Terrier between his legs.

This is Voodie she is a blue Merle Dane she is the one I got at 1 week old

The orange cat is my Garfield He was something else he lived 21 years.

Yes Blueberry Sky, she was A blue Merle also and looked like a little blueberry when she was a pup. She was our first Dane.
I didn't name Ritz he was given to me by my vet, he was a problem child! Lol

Raven, a big Thank You for posting the pictures. They are ALL just beautiful furkids. The Danes are bigger than me. LOL

When I was first teaching, there was a family that lived behind the school playground that had a great dane and when we'd have the children out on the playground, the dog would come bounding over wanting to play. It looked like a horse approaching and of course scared a lot of the kids. I'm sure the dog was just looking for "his" kids. He was just a big friendly lovable giant. Again, thank you soooo much.

I have no idea why it put the pictures so small, they are on my imageshack storage and they have changed things recently so I need to check it out. I will try this one again. The Christmas one was taken by my neighbor in Dallas area, her son is the one in the picture, he was staying at my house dog sitting while we were in Louisiana one year. He loved the dogs. I prefer to have the dogs at my house so they feel at home.
They sent me that picture by email while I was Louisiana it was such a nice surprise.The dogs are Magic and Voodie

They just take over wherever they want to sleep! The first time I met up with one close-up was at a g/f. He wagged his tail and cleared the coffee table. He was also able to drink out of the sink.

Our dogs and cats have always got along very well together. I always had a bed full of both with me at night.
