Thanks, guys! My grandmother's name was Alison Campbell Luckstone. Her parents were born in Scotland. She was the opera singer I've shown in costume in other pictures from her younger years. The one with the tiny waist I didn't inherit.

When I was born, she said she was too young to be a grandmother, so she had me call her Lucky, after Luckstone. She was 70!

My neighbor invited me to go along with her to the master gardeners growing site yesterday. Wish we had gotten there for the morning sunlight....it was late afternoon before we could both get away to go and the light was terrible for photographs. Its just teeming with flowers!!!! I hope to get back for some better pix.Wanda, its so nice to see you and your pretty bird....Heres a couple of pix of the storage shed and one of the pathways through the site....

My mom and good friend, whom I lost 30 years ago today, at the age of 47.

This is her on my wedding day (September 15th) in 1973.

I still miss you terribly mom.

In my next life I want to be a Master Gardener - my state offers free training but it's one day a week for 4 months and I can't commit as yet. so for today I'll enjoy their beautiful garden.

Mcmann, I did the master gardeners training twice. Once in OKC, and then in Tulsa. Love the people I met, loved the gardening and all.

Alisande, what a treasure you have in those old negatives. There are hundreds of old pics and negatives in my Moms old house, but for reasons to long to go into, it is unlikely that I will ever see them again.

Jodi, so sorry that you lost your Mom when you...and she were so young. My Dad was a year older when I lost him. My biggest regret is that my children didn't get to know him.

I dearly want to take the master gardeners classes, but here they are only given in the dead of winter. I can't take chances on falling, so I have never done it.

My pic today shows 4 of the 30 or so of Peter Toths "Trail of the Whispering Giants" that he alone carved from local trees in every state ( some states got more than 1) in the 70's through the 90's. When DH and I traveled by motorcycle over the years, we made it a point to find each state's "Whispering Giant", Peter's tribute to the American Indian. Below are Williamsport, PA and a very early one, now at the Western Welcome Center on PA I 80 and bottom two, Narragansette R.I. and Cherokee N.C.

Huge melon from my garden, I could barely carry it into the house. It was bigger than my microwave so I had to weight it. It weighed 37 lbs. Gave half of it to one of Lauren's friends to take home with her today. Had a smaller melon picked yesterday too and gave it to the neighbor who cut bushes in the yard this summer:

Kathy--Indiana, I love that first picture. The contrast between the colorful, delicate flowers and the rough neutrals on the fence and barn is really nice.

Jodi, I don't think we ever stop missing our moms. I was lucky to have mine until she was 80. Keep the good thoughts close at heart.

gazania, thanks for those photos of Peter Toths. A couple of years ago I researched his work and found that he had one in Texarkana but was disappointed to find that it was no longer at the site. Thanks for sharing

Minnie, my interest in Peter came about because he and his family immigrated from Hungary to Akron Ohio where I was living. The Indian that is now on I-80 in PA was carved in 1973 on a tree stump just a few yards from my sister-in-laws home near Sharon PA, and was moved to the Welcome Center later

In the late '80's, we watched and talked with Peter many hours as he released an Indian from a giant tree trunk on Market Street in Akron, Ohio. We drove by to see it just last week. It is still looking good.

I just had to get in on the fun. I love looking at everyone's photos. Thanks!
