Its just ridiculous the number of calls we have been getting with regards to the up coming election. We have caller id (thank goodness)but we are just sick of the number of calls!

I am glad but be aware if you have the same exclusions we do "down" here. Policital exempt, any business you deal/dealt with even answering emails, some religious groups etc. I get very few calls, and I just tell them to put me on their do not call list and they must. Polls don't count either--but I do not know why

I'm not going to rush out and sign up.
The only calls I get are from charities, and political parties, and these are exempt.

The few calls I got, I asked to be removed from there list (this was actually in force LAST year, where if asked, they had to remove you) and I haven't gotten calls from these businesses since.
One regular caller was from the Cranberry Resort in Collingwood for time-sharing. They no longer call.

Cranberry Lodge used to be the worst. We asked to be removed from their calling list several times. One night my husband got a little angry and called Cranberry Lodge in Collingwood and told them if they didn't stop calling he would place a call every ten minutes to them. The poor desk clerk was a little taken aback. She promised she would have the manager look in to it. We haven't had a call since. I often wonder if these companies realize the negative impact telemarketing has on their business. We are only an hour from Collingwood and ski there occasionally. We wouldn't dream of using Cranberry lodge because of their aggressive marketing campaign.

Don't forget the exempt groups, as indicated, folks.

I'm not sure about the survey groups.

I usually ask them how much I get paid - that they're interrupting me, at their choice of time, while I can do a survey online at my convenience ... and the online ones usually give me a (slight) possibility of winning a prize.

When I tell them that their company pays them for their time, brain and use of their voice, for which they get paid ... but they want exactly the same from me ... for no charge: that's not fair! ... they don't know what to say.

Or - that they're calling my business phone and that I, like a lawyer or doctor, having nothing to sell but my time ... so if they'll give me their company's name and address for billing ... and tell me how many minutes they want to contract for, a $1.00 per minute, that we can proceed.

Haven't had a taker for that proposal, yet!

Or - that if they want to let me know how long their spiel will take, that I'll listen to theirs ... if they'll listen to mine, for an equal amount of time.

No takers for that one, either!

I must be a poor salesperson, I guess ... wouldn't be wise for me to seek employment at a call centre, I guess, would it??!!

One thing that I absolutely HATE is when the telemarketers circumvent your phone ringing and put their message directly into your Bell mailbox. THAT shouldn't be allowed. We should have the choice to talk to them or not, or tell them personally to stop calling.

We registered on the phone the end of Sept, but it doesn't kick in till November 1 . We're good for 3 years till Nov.1 2011. And then I guess we do it all over again.
