Said a big cat has been sited, and warning everyone to keep their dogs on leashes and cats indoors.

Wild Life Association has been alerted.

We have possums, raccoons, armadillo, but never before a BIG CAT!

Wow Glenda, be careful. Carry some spray or a gun when you go out. I am becoming more housebound lately since all these snakes I've been seeing. I would really stay in with a big cat outside!

Be very careful, Glenda, especially if you are out and about early morning, at or after dusk. Do you have to walk outside to get to your car or do you have a garage?

Actually, Boxerpups, you bring up a good point about titles. If you don't want to see your images in strange places, don't put an identifying name on each of them. The easiest is to leave the number. "img0037.jpg" is totally unidentifiable. "Dining room.jpg" will come up on high Google, especially right after you post it. :) Use abbreviations that it takes a human to understand, and it won't turn up in someone's search string, e.g., "dr315blupnt11.jpg" is easy to find in your album as dining room, today's date, blue paint, year, but isn't going to get a lot of hits on searches. Remember, once it's posted on GW, I (and anyone else) can steal it no matter what you do to stop it. We can remove your watermarks and metadata, as well. Even if you take the picture down, there are echos out there where it will remain forever. Once it's on the web, it's on the web forever, even if it's hard to get at. One reason I take badly composed pictures for web use is that there's no recovering from ugly. Titled in the plane of the photo is fixable. Tilted in any other plane is not. Things lined up improperly is not. Don't want people stealing your photos? Make 'em ugly! Sometimes I forget when I want to show something pretty, and line it all up nicely, but I try to keep it kind of sorry looking. ;) (Also, if you don't want people to break into your car, keep it dirty and full of worthless junk.)

Yes, the corrugated box stuff would work. And believe me, they also love old WICKER. Oh dear yes, I had a problem with my cats clawing the arms of a wicker sofa. Never heard of the cat liking to claw rubber, but they have some pretty unusual cravings. Yes, OldGardener, the store bought posts do tip over, when you have an enthusiastic scratcher of any size at all. Marti, your cat sounds very independent, and phobic. Like my little boy maltese, he remembers which vet "did him in," and he growls at him every time. And my parrot knows that when I bring out the carrier he is headed to the vet, unless I've spent days packing. So yes, they are smart smart critters. Good luck with the tranquilizer. The one we were given for our cats, to calm them down for a 1500 mile trip, only made them drunk, and they meow-meow-meow like dripping water torture for the WHOLE TRIP, TWO DAYS. It was the LAST time I went anywhere with cats, and is the reason I have no cats these days. Good luck.

They say there are no black cougars...panthers...but people report seeing them often. My husband and most of my neighbors have seen one here. I saw a big cat cross the highway in front of me not long ago, but couldn't swear to the color...it was dark colored but it was just before dark. It happened so fast, and I was so stunned to see it. It is said that the black panthers are actually black jaguars. The strangest cat I have ever seen, and I watched it for a good 20 seconds or so, so I got a good look at it, was walking down the bayou here on my property. It was huge, and sand colored and very slick haired...like a cougar. It had a big head like a cougar. No ticking or pattern to the coat like a bobcat. But it had a short tail. Well, short but due to the size of the cat, it was probably close to 8" long. It was bigger than a bobcat...much, much bigger. It had huge feet and was walking along sort of winging it's feet to the side. It was looking from side to side, as it traveled down a path by the bayou. I guess it was a bobcat but I have seen lots of bobcats here and they aren't that big. Their coats are kind of scruffy and patterned. My neighbor also saw the same cat I did. He said he had never seen anything like it. For sure it wasn't a coyote. I wasn't but about 150' from it when I saw it.

Last night when I got up to go to the bathroom, I tied Izzi to my front porch as I always do when she wants out in the dark. I sat looking out the storm door as Izzi sniffed the front porch. When I looked up, this side of the dusk till dawn light was a very, very big coyote! I don't know where it came from as it was not there when I looked down at Izzi but was there when I looked up and it was staring right at us. I opened the storm door and it took off in a couple leaps into the woods from the drive. Izzi never did even hear it and neither did I. That is why I always tie her especially at night and I always watch her. Never know what is out in the dark. I know I have very large tracks all the time in my garden. Sue in Central Indiana

I don't go out early and I'm home at nite. The woods are right behind me, as well as the whole condo is in the woods. IT has been spotted further down from me, as they said IT might be feeding from the dumpster.

I live against the woods. We have BIG cat warning signs all over....never seen one. :0) I've lived here 20 years! Lets hope YOU don't see one either....:0)

evidentally it has just been sited cause there was no warning at the condo post office yesterday. It was written and posted by the association president.

We have big cats (cougars) here...my husband, neighbors, best friend, and many other people around here have seen them. I saw tracks in a very muddy area. I don't worry about it at all.
I wouldn't want to get one cornered, but just going about your day to day life, they aren't going to bother you. Here there is enough small game to keep one well fed. In the past two months I know two people have seen one of them, including one with a cub. Most people wouldn't believe they are here...game wardens don't believe it...but, they're here. And I am very glad.

Are you nuts? If the "big cat" warning is in reference to a cougar/mountain lion, then it could very well "bother" her.
Mountain lions are predators. They will hunt humans.

I'd call that a "bother."

that's what the memo said, they probably won't bother us unless we confront them.

Mighty quiet here, as no one is walking their dogs tonite.

Maybe it was just in the neighborhood before moving on to better grounds, when it was seen, probably yesterday.

Glenda, I posted in July about a Mountain Lion warning we got at work. I copied the suggestions on what to do in the event you come across a large cat.

I see Bobcats all the time when I hike and they are never a problem, but would not want to run into a Mountain Lion/Cougar when alone. We've had a few attacks in our area over the years and it scares me to death. I've actually seen two in the wild on two separate occasions when I was living in Northern CA. Once while on horseback, the other time while driving a car.

Be aware at all times Glenda.

If it's a bobcat, you shouldn't have any worries. They will avoid a confrontation.
However, a hungry Mountain Lion is a completely different story.

Most lions have a hundred mile radius that is there domain. But Bobcats and Lynx can be dangerous especially if they have kits. We have been tracked by them, as they are very curious. They are wild and you don't know what they will do, especially if they are ill. When my grandparents had the ranch in CA, they had beautiful and big oak trees and I was taught to look up for the cats lying on the branches and down for rattlesnakes. Make hiking interesting. And yes we did see them up in the trees just waiting for 'dinner'.

friend thinks it due to the residential building on these mountains that probably has displaced the animals.
