Update on Kathi_mdgd

Hi everyone,

First of all thanks for the prayers,good thought and support.

I had the bilateral mastectomy on the 21st of Aug,stayed in the hospital for 4 days,during which time i had to have a transfusion of 2units of blood.

I was sick after the surgery as i always am,and no matter what they do to try and prevent it,it always happens and this time was no different.Almost passed out on the 2nd night in the hospital when they got me up as well.So those are the reasons i ended up staying for the 4 days.And to think on my authorization papers it said "outpatient surgery".

I'm doing ok, pretty much,sore and these drains are making life miserable,but i know once they come out,the pains hopefully will go away.In the meantime,percocet is my friend,followed by milk of magnesia.LOL

My pathology reports weren't back yet when i went to the dr on wednesday.I go again friday,so hope they are back by then.The dr says i won't need radiation,but he's sure i'll need some chemo,how much and for how long isn't known yet.

As i'm sure a lot of you know the waiting to find out information is the worse.

I received another email (4/18) from Kathi...passing along the news: Here's the latest update!!! My husband's neurologist called me this afternoon and told me they needed to take him back to surgery, as he had another clot and bleeding in his brain. I've been up there all afternoon and just got home at 1:30 AM PCT. He came out of surgery around 12:30 am. Seems to be more alert than he was the last time, and not as drugged up. He now has a shunt in place to drain the blood. We (my DIL and I) just stayed about a half hour, then he insisted we go home and get some rest. I didn't want to leave until I knew he would be ok, and Praise the Lord it looks like my prayers have been answered, however I'll continue to keep the prayers going up. God always has time to listen!! Thanks you all for the prayers and good thoughts you've sent up so far on his behalf. By the way, his name is Eddie. Of course, we'll continue positive thoughts Eddie will return home for recuperation soon, Kathi. Stay strong, girl...and get some rest!

Kathi, I really enjoyed reading the book, Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips. I can't remember the author's name, but she said to use the cancer card. When you are invited somewhere and really don't want to go, tell them that you don't feel well from the chemo. Or if you don't want to cook, use your cancer card. And I have done that when needed. I think you would enjoy the book. I can't remember if I still have it but if I do I would be happy to send it to you.

Special thoughts to you Kathi. You had a rough go with this surgery. Hope you say goodbye to the drains soon.

Kathy you are right the waiting is the pits. My path came back and it was not at all what I had hoped so I pray that yours will be better. I see the Oncologist on the 18th to discuss my chemo. Sounds like we might be doing it about the same time. Good luck on your chemo and on your reports.

Kathi - I don't post much on GW anymore, but sure have been thinking of you alot and wishing you the best in all this! You were so kind to send me novelty fabrics a year or so ago when I was making an "I Spy" quilt for me - remember? Heal fast and hope you're feeling better soon.

Thanks everyone,appreciate all your prayers,good thoughts etc.

Gardenspice,i do try to stay ahead of the pain,but sometimes it sneaks up on me .As for nourishment,believe me between friends and dh i'm getting plenty to eat.A good friend came over last night and brought us food for about 4 different meals.She runs a home daycare,so spends the weekends cooking for the week.So this week she cooked extras for us.Wasn't that nice?? Last week another friend brought us meals for 2 days and in between dh cooked.

Scraphappy,i wondered what happened to you!! Did you finish your "I spy" quilt??

Kathi, yes, those drains are a pain, but they'll be out soon. Try to rest and not over-do.

My best to you and Ruthie for your chemo. I know you'll get through it and come out the other side all better!
