Adverbs are still taught in school, of course. Mostly it's commercials which skip using them, so then it moves over into general usage, unfortunately.

I miss there being less people~~less traffic. We are in traffic to get almost anywhere here in SoCal~~~crowds do do almost anything you want to do~~~can't even get a fire pit at the beach anymore;(

Oh azzalea, don't get me started! I cringe every time I hear someone say "Me and my friends are. . . " Even some people who should know better have started doing this. What have I missed? Is this what is being taught now?

I know that frequent usage often means that something eventually becomes accepted, but not knowing how to use pronouns really irks me. If I were an employer, the minute I heard this come out of a job applicant's mouth, they'd be gone!

I think it started with "growing" your business.
And apparently, no one can say a whole word anymore. We have to shorten them all to one syllable. (or is that syl?).

YogaLady, I sure agree with you. I often skip events which would be enjoyable because parking and crowds are just too awful. Going early, early can help.

I do not judge people by their grammar, but poor grammar makes me cringe inside, in particular: "he don't" and "I seen." Many times these speech habits are handed down, parent to child.

I used to babysit a kid and he always said, "Ain't got none." Drove my crazy. Then I heard the Mom say it.. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree..

I cringe when people say "I was like" instead of I thought. The general misuse of the word like really gets me annoyed.

It still annoys me when people say or write - someone "gifted" me a ..... It should be someone "gave" me a ....

I hate that word - gifted. When did that happen?

"me and her" Oh, that sends shivers down my spine. Cringe-worthy for sure.

there's one kid ad that drives me bonkers...want to say it's bright house and moving the tv...

bill cosby made that speech about using correct language aimed at black youth...well he should have made it universal!

I hate hearing "the room will fit our furniture" instead of accommodate or our furniture will fit in the room. Drives me nuts!

I also am annoyed by people who verbify nouns or the nounification of verbs, and agree whole-heartedly with azzalea about the seemingly total disappearance of adverbs.

One of our local TV anchors always says sentences like ...Tom Jones he was in a wreck.Crazy. I hate between you and I too. I hate that people can't get their, there, they're correct. How hard is it?

Yes, lily. It seems to happen more with the sports anchor than the other talking heads. I do get a bit upset when the weather man talks about the weather "acrossed" the state.

Whatever became of the word "preventive"? It served us perfectly well for a very long time. Well, now it's "preventative". What's up with the extra syllable? It's now been used for such a long time that I think it's accepted and even included in the dictionary, but mine does have the grace to point out that "careful writers use preventive rather than preventative," so I feel somewhat vindicated.

Another peeve of mine is the word "school", one syllable, rhymes with "cool". Right? So, why am I now hearing on both local and national television the new word that sounds like "skoo-wul"?

there is such a thing as a "flat" adverb.

It doesn't have an "-ly" ending.

That's ok, I've noticed the trend of turning any part of speech into whatever on wishes. It's not that one searches with the search engine-Google (a noun). They merely "Google". Which drives me insane! Or they bike places. No. You use your bike to bicycle or you ride your bike. Bike is a noun, not a verb. Go biking! that's my least favorite.

"Her and me"
"Her and I"
"Him and me"
"Him and I"

ACK!!!!! You wouldn't say "Her went.....", so you wouldn't say "Her and me went ....". You would say "She went ...", so therefore it's "She and I went....".

And so on.

This absolutely drives me crazy. Her and me (etc.). ARGHHHH!!! Shoot me now!
