Hi Sue

You are always so thoughtful, following up with me all the time!

:-)

I spent an hour at the fellow's place and he dinked around with some specs and enlarged the cache and document sizes (or something like that). He does blame my Avast anti-virus for slowing it down, because some AV's scan a frequent site once and then only if there's something new. Avast scans each site thoroughly each time, as if it were the first time.

It's a little better....yahoo is the worst still, some sites are a little quicker.

Avast is recommended even on CompHelp. I MIGHT try another anti-virus and see if it helps.

I have AVG free, and it is another one liked and often recommended at CH.

Hi (the other) Sue!
I had AVG for years, but then found out and understood that it was soon only going to be available through a paid subscription.
They were not making it free anymore I think as of Sept or Dec.

If it still is free, and will be, I'll go back to it for sure.

I have Firefox 3.6.16. If I click on Tools, About Mozilla Firefox is at the bottom of the list. It tells what version I have. Above that in the drop down box is Check for Updates. I do that and it tells me there is a new version available, and the choices are Ask later, No Thanks or Get the new version. I haven't gotten the new version; waiting to see what others say about it. I imported my post from another thread. FF12 beta 1 was released around March 16, 2012, followed by five more betas. The most recent beta 6 around April 18, 2012. A supposed final was released around April 22, 2012. I have read that there is some user confusion as to it being an actual final version, or just a RC (release candidate). I have also read some reported concerns regarding stability of this final/RC version. I myself am waiting for a clarification and a popular position on the release. As always, with any application a user must use caution when exploring betas and RCs. DA

The DML in in my firefox add-0ns When I go to the links that you have provided, it takes me to the very same page that installed this add-on I have Adobe Flash Player 10.0.22.87 And Adobe Flash player plugin 10.0.42.34 According to the Adobe page, the latest version is 10.0.45.2 I clicked on a picture to enlarge the pic on ebay and this message came up. (was not able to get a screenshot) User Account Control Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer? Program name-Adobe DLM Verified publisher-Adobe System Inc. that version of firefox is one that is still being supported and they are providing updates for it, I still have it on a couple of mine. But she can always try going to 8 and if she finds it does now work well for her she can go back to the same version she had. Just look at the verison number she has now and write it down so that if she does want to go back we know which version to provide. I have found that on some of the older computers that the latest version of firefox can cause some issues. I have had to help a few people revert back to the still supported lstest version of 3.xx. Security should be better of course on the most recent updates of any program.

Sherry, I was hoping Mr Fixit was really going to fix it. I've never used Avast, always AVG and now AVG8. I did a search at CH for info on Avast/AVG. Give up Scrabble for a while and scan through all the comments there!

What does this mean:yahoo is the worst still, some sites are a little quicker. I don't use yahoo for anything except my email addy here.

Sherry, I was hoping Mr Fixit was really going to fix it. I've never used Avast, always AVG and now AVG8, which I will keep until the last minute. Who knows? They may extend it. You could go back to AVG (and shut down Avast) and see if that helps.

Have you looked at Thunderbird for email. I guess I like to stay away from any MS stuff. BTW, have you made FF your default browser? If not you might want to do that.

Right now I have a problem with IE. Waiting on some help over at CH.

Sorry I'm so late getting here. I found the IE problem this AM, posted it at CH then had to go out for most of the rest of the day.

TO Sue is good at helping, so maybe between us we can get this straightened out. Right, Sue?

LOL, I have been going through the threads on CH! Based on advice
ravencajun gave someone else, I did an online malware scan to see if I had anything buggy. I also use SuperAntispyware.
Is AVG8 free? Are they not going to get rid of the Free program? Or did they change their mind?

Yahoo is my email program. It just takes a long time to open the shortcut.

I have a site that I use for work that only works with IE, so it's the little e on the quicklaunch. Everything else opens with FF.

I'll keep working on it and see what I can do, if anything.

Sherry,

AVG8 is free and it will be good until December at least. If you decide to get it watch to see if it includes LinkScanner. You don't want that or any other stuff like toolbars etc. Just don't click on it, or unclick it, however it is set up.

It has always been reliable for me. Hope they don't give it up.
