I like the shows where they redo a room etc for under $500 or a similar amount and they also have episodes where they don't spend a penny but rearrange furniture and accessories the owner already has.

Some of the shows are just too "cutesy" with designers and workers are trying to outshine the other.

Clare, I am with you. First you spend all that money, then you move. But, sometimes there isn't another choice!

I can only say, I am glad I did not spend a lot of money on the kitchen in Tulsa. I ended up buying a hot tub instead. :)

However we put all new windows in, and new heaters (upstairs unit and downstairs unit) and new air contioners. Now we are in the OKC area, and have similar updates to do to this house.

I could just scream, but that doesn't do me any good. This morning was the first morning I felt like, well, I live here now, I guess I better get going with my life.

Running away on a bike trip really didn't help.

I love HGTV! While we were at the Lake Saturday, I left the HGTV show on for the dogs. LOL!

I hope they learned how to help me with the Bathroom redo.

isn't that funny about not belonging to a house? i've been a couple of places like that.

we redid a our kitchen and kept it down to a resonable price. of course that meant we couldn't tear down to the studs, which we really needed to do. now eight years later, it's beginning to show! tell you one thing never redo a kitchen and a wedding at the same time! it was hurry get it done in time for the rehersal dinner...

there is another show on hgtv that the people bit off more than they could afford...and it wasn't a year later the house was up for sale. (dream house)

I didn't see anything in the episode write-up about the house belonging to anyone's grandmother. The house sat vacant for 15 years before the couple bought it, after living in it for 5 years and having two kids, they wanted to remodel the kitchen...

Maybe the couple is now separating/divorcing; maybe there's been a job transfer.... there are many reasons why someone would sell a house only a few years after a major remodel.

What a gorgeous home! Could be they were planning to flip the house all along. Could be a career change or job loss or divorce. I wouldn't leave a house like that easily, assuming the inside is just as nice as the outside.

I love HGTV shows about color, decorating with what you have and flipping. I just wish they would explain why some of the choices are made, especially rules of thumb. I am all thumbs and would love to learn.

Now DD and SIL bought a fixer upper, so I watch to try to learn so I can be of some help to them. I did learn how to fix a broken bifold closet door and promptly put it to use in their house.

I didn't see that but I do watch House Hunters....But it cracks me up, after they spend big bucks to buy the house and then turn around and completely remodel the kitchen or bathroom...I can see changing paint colors but complete remodeling???

I watch lots of HGTV. Mostly better than what's out there on major network television. Property Virgins and House Hunters are two of my faves.

I used to really enjoy This Old House WAY back when they used to do a realistic refurb. Nowadays they sit there and ask How's the budget? and the response is Well, we really have to keep this kitchen remodel to no more than $550,000.00 and the response is usually Wow, that's gonna be tight.... we can get some donations, and you can do some of the labor, but boy it's going to be tight! The Ask TOH is much more like TOH used to be.

Always liked Decorating Cents. But I always liked Joan Steffend. She was a news anchor here and one of the best I've seen. Really sad to see her leave. But her show was enjoyable. I taped many of them because there were some ideas in there I liked and at the time I was thinking of moving so I thought I might be able to make use of some of the ideas.

I like the shows where they're not using all the imported marble and specialized everything. Branjalina can afford that, but I sure can't. I'll stick with the shows that do the room redo for $500 or the like.

Don't have cable or satellite anymore so I don't see HGTV very often. But it was one channel I did enjoy. But then again, when I see it now, there's some strange shows on there too! I really don't miss cable very often.

One thing I get a kick out of on the designers. In one room it'll have dark colors and it's OH we HAVE to lighten this up! Get rid of the dark dreary colors and get the light airy... Then the next room, Oh we HAVE to do something about these colors. Make it dark, rich and warm! Anything to sell paint I guess.

I watch and love HGTV. My favorite is the show where someone looks at three houses to buy, and, based on a designers suggestions, picks the one they like best. I think it's always the first house, and, my, the changes are so expensive!

I am addicted to HGTV. I have learned a lot from watching Designed to Sell. I also enjoy House Hunters and My House Is Worth What?

So, the big old rambling house is up for sale. Maybe its to settle an estate, or maybe they now know what the heating and tax bill is.

i often catch house hunters, ground breakers & my house is worth what? i also like the new products in design shows that specialize in kitchens & bath.

for 2006-07 i did landscape design/install and my previous employer has had 1 show just on Ground breakers already and is filming another right now and has 1 more still to shoot. people outside of FL would be surprised at how much $$ is spent on landscaping here. to get on that show the job must be a minimum of $50K, the show already filmed came in at $60K, current filming job is $80K. in 2 yrs i never had a job under $25K and averaged $35K w/ 2 jobs a week going 52 wks a yr.

considering that not even 10% of the houses' value was spent on the remodel $75K is not that much. it's practically $1 million and $75K is nothing to spend especially when you think about what needs to be in a house that you ask $1 mil for inorder to even get lookers. he probably just wants to get $$ out of it and buy his ownplace while prices are cheap. unless you have some sort of emotional connection to your house IMO they really are for making $$ off of and moving up in the housing market till you get to your dream house w/ the best of the best. ~ liz

I would watch HGTV if I had cable. I love shows about decorating, etc.

I'm worn out tonight....just got in from doing chores, and I can't think straight, but what's the name of the show that comes on Sunday nights...on CBS, I think...where they go in and help out a needy family by giving them a complete new house in just a week's time?? Anyway, heard on the radio about a family in Atlanta that they helped....built them a
$400,000 house and gave them money to pay the taxes for the next 25 years. The family decided to put the house up for
collateral and go into business, and now they are losing it.

Cynic, my DH and I were commenting the same thing about the colors. Whatever the color is, it is wrong. Light should be rich and bright, bright is too "personal", make it neutral.
House Hunters is interesting, Flip this House has gotten more unsold endings, people aren't pocketing $100,000 for shoddy work anymore.
House Hunters International, well, people that have to go to another country to relax, I guess they have more money than I'll ever see.
Property Virgins or My First Place, not sure if they are HGTV, at least there you see people making decisions about realistic homes in their price ranges.
Hidden Potential, they buy a dump or even a fairly nice home for $300,000 then need another $100,000 or so to update it.

The est. annual taxes of $22,288.00 might have something to do with why they want to sell!!! It might be lovely to inherit a home but who wants to inherit that tax bill!
It is a beautiful home though. I think it would be sad to leave it.

I watch a lot of DIY and HGTV. Too much! My favorite show right now is "Get Color". I like how they add color to plain white walls. We are in the process of doing that to all our plain white rooms. It sure is harder then it looks, to pick the right color. So far I like what we have choosen but would like to redo the master bath color. Just not right.

I used to be an avid fan of HGTV...I loved the old craft and home decorating shows...those that they had several years ago...I don't even bother watching them anymore...
