Have you ever had a Bloody Caesar?

A Canadian friend sent me this recipe. She says it's a very popular drink in Canada, but US bartenders don't seem to know what it is. Sounds like something I'd like.

1 oz vodka

salt

celery salt

pepper

1 dash Worcestershire sauce

1 dash Tabasco sauce

Clamato juice

Rim tall glass with celery salt, fill with ice and ingredients. Garnish with a celery stick, straw, and lime.

Love Caesars! We don't have many bloody marys here at all. We drink Caesars instead. You can make it as spicy as you like. I like lots of black pepper in it.

Love love love a good bloody caesar!

Vancouver was where I had my first one, and Seattle had the best ever, and both times were going on an Alaskan cruise.

Bar tender has to know what he's doing for it to be a good one.

Cruising they just aren't as good on the ship.

Love them! Sure beats a bloody mary.

I have had Crock Pots since they didn't have a removable liner! Got rid of those quick!. Most of mine have been the Crock Pot brand. I have had one Hamilton Beach. For various reasons, they have "bit the dust". The only thing I prefer about the old Crock Pots is the one piece glass lid. The new ones have a handle with screws and if you submerge it in water, you have to take the handle apart to dry. I do like the "warm" setting in addition to high and low. I use Crock Pots, stove top, and the oven, depending on what I am cooking and the time available to watch. If I get busy, I kinda forget to add water to the stove top, lol. ETA: I do not have or use the programmable cookers. I like the manual ones.

I had it several times when in SE Asia. Sometimes I purchased it at the open markets while watching the vendor process the giant fruit; other times I bought it already packaged in the grocery stores. It was one of my favorites of the 'new to me' fruits I tried while in Asia, although it does have a slight smell of decay. Not as bad as durian, and I found it easy to overlook, but those with sensitive noses might find it offputting.

No, I've never been told I had a short conversation with someone during the night, but didn't remember it the next day. But I wouldn't be concerned, you were probably just in a sleep stage that allowed you to speak coherently, yet not retain memory of it in the morning. My younger sister used to laugh in her sleep. I shared a bedroom with her and my older sister, when we were young. When younger sister would start giggling, it would wake older sister and I up. But her giggling was so infectious that my other sister and I would start laughing. Then our younger sister would wake up and ask us what we were laughing about, because it had woken her up! My youngest son also laughed in his sleep often, and now my 7 year old grandson does as well, so maybe it runs in the family!

Hello Mike, That is an impressive plant. If it were a truly unique mutant, then in my opinion you would be justified in bringing it indoors, possibly with some credible indoor lighting, for an indefinite extension of its lifetime. But you can probably grow it again from commercial seeds. However, as an amateur zinnia breeder, I have had some zinnia flower forms that were uniquely different from what is available commercially, like this one for example. You can click the photo to see a larger version. So, on a few occasions, I have brought an outdoor zinnia indoors for continued growth under fluorescent lighting, along with zinnias that I was already growing indoors, but almost every time I came to regret it. The last time I did that, I inadvertently brought in some thrips from outdoors on the zinnia plant. The thrips had natural enemies that kept them under control outdoors, but indoors without enemies, they had a population explosion that nearly wiped out my indoor project. On another similar occasion, it was spider mites, and on a previous occasion, it was aphids. I won the battle with the aphids and the thrips, but lost it dramatically with the spider mites. So now the only thing I bring in from my zinnia garden is saved seeds. I would caution against possible similar problems with any plant you bring indoors from outdoors. I am not saying not to do it under any circumstance, but if you do, be prepared for a possible fight. ZM

Yup, love my salted caesars. I was in the Houston airport in April and asked the bartender for one, told me he only had bloody mary's and then said, you must be from Canada. Very popular drink here, it was invented by a bartender in Calgary Alberta. Some bars here now put a hot bean and olive instead of the celery stick.

Sounds delish!! When I bar tended at a supper club, we didn't have any celery in the kitchen for the Bloody Marys, so I put in dill pickle spears. The patrons liked it so much, that I did that all the time. Sure wouldn't mind a Bloody Caesar or Mary this morning. Getting in a bad mood.

DH has been using Clamato juice in his bloody Mary's for too many years to remember. Didn't know it had a special name to it.

Will always associate my first bloody caesar, in Vancouver, with poutine.

Friend ordered it for our traveling group.

I'm with georgymom. We make our bloody mary's that way all the time. I didn't know it had a different name. Also, we put all kinds stuff in it, pickles, celery and beef sticks to name a few. That's why we have these for breakfast when vacationing.

I love 'em! We just call them Caesars here. I like mine spicy, with a good rim on it! When I was younger (much younger) we'd have them for breakfast after a night out over the river in the USA. Yes, we'd cross the border to drink because we were legal there! But we had to come home for our Caesars.

Love Caesars, the more spicy they are the better. I like mine with extra lemon wedge and a dill pickle spear. We serve them in mason jar glasses. You can buy Caesars bottled too but I love the Caesars my brother Ray makes.

Windsor bars tend to serve them with dill pickle spears. Celery is used for Bloody Mary's LOL

I've had them. I prefer Bloody Marys, just not a huge clamato fan.

I love my bloodys with a lemon slice, lots of green olives, celery, and I like dill pickles too...but nobody serves them with pickles that I know of (only do that when making them myself).

One tavern here serves them with a pickled green bean, pickled asparagus spear, one pepperoncini, celery spear, small lemon wedge and one nice big shrimp on the side. That's more than I eat for lunch! LOL
