'My Favorite Things' comment thread

I thought some of us might like to comment on some of the pictures posted in Casey's thread without messing up the flow (however convoluted!) of the photos.

I'll start by saying that Taigen's mitten picture couldn't be more perfect to go with the song!

Oh gosh - I'm sorry - I didn't see this post and I already messed up Casey's thread with my comments. And my post was about taigen's mittens too.

Oh my goodness. What a surprise to end the day finding all these wonderful "favorite things" -- I love it! Creating and sharing beauty; everyone here seems to have an interest in that. Michaela, you and I are sharing the uplifting experience of finding some new roses that don't "sleep" after they're newly planted. I expected these roses to do not much of anything this first year. Instead, they're lending a maturity to the new "Garden of Forgotten Dreams" that's making me so happy. From my early observations, though, I do think Carding Mill performs better in heat than it does when the weather cools. Msdorkgirl, is your Grand Dame a prolific bloomer? I've been seeing pictures of this rose exploding with blooms, and wonder if that happens commonly. Ingrid, how warm and inviting to share your cherished antiques -- exquisite! You say you don't have many roses blooming, but the ones you have are gorgeous. I especially love the picture of Aunt Margy's Rose. I finished examining the plants today and applying another dose of fungicide to the worst affected. It looks like the progression of the disease is slowing down and maybe even stopping. Yellowing leaves are pretty much gone and the plants seem stable. I am going to have to keep a close eye on things and also make sure that the plants are not drying out unexpectedly. Not all of my Hoyas are in the same potting mix and some seem to dry out before the others but because I have so many I have to water on a rotating schedule. I think that I will be able to save all of my plants even though some are not in very good shape, Hoya megalaster is down to two leaves and they are showing spotting but there is new growth starting as well. I am going to have to pay special attention to the plants that may have virus and be sure to discard them if they show further signs of infection. At this time I feel it might be premature to diagnose any plants with virus because of the stress of the fungal infection but I think I need to be very careful for the sake of my collection. It has been snowing here for days with over a meter of snow falling in the last three days, most areas are at least waist deep. The entire city is shut down but today is an absolutely beautiful calm and brilliantly sunny day. I feel like the stress is just melting away, a welcome feeling that's for sure. Mike

Hi All, My box came! I got a wonderful box from Maryanne : ) She wrapped up everything in pretty garden motif paper. So it was like Christmas. Much of the box is very bird related which is great because they are some of my favorite things too. The box contained: not one but 2!! tube feeders, one is specifically for finches and one is for other small birds A window bird feeder A hummingbird feeder-you can never have too many feeders, IMHO! hummingbird food A whimsical bird designed wind chime A garden tool caddy for putting around a bucket-this is good for me because I tend to lose things while gardening 2 pkgs. of annual cut flower seeds, the pkgs. are cool looking. They are advertisements for the Philadelphia museum of Art show "Renoir Landscapes"-You didn't even know Renoir was my favorite artist! I did get to see his "Luncheon of the Boating Party" painting in person and it was amazing. I digress, back to the box, lol. 2 cookbooks! One is 'Preserves and Canning'-how great is that! One is 'The Saint Louis Cookbook'- another perfect one for my regional cookbook collection Now this is hillarious. In the box there was a refrigerator magnet, which is nice in itself, because I decorate my fridge with them, but what does it say?.... "Beware of Attack Gardener"!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL! I received my box from Faye today and wow! what a large box she sent stuffed full of goodies! I love everything she sent which included a beautiful tin "welcome" sign with flowers and a dragonfly, a darling patriotic cottage style windchime, a large pack of seed bags,plant ties,post it notes, sharpie markers, glitter glue, garden gloves, hand lotion, an "Outdoor Favorites Recipe Book" which my husband confiscated already, a great variety of wonderful candy and bouncing balls for the grandkids (they're gonna love them), and a bunch of different garden seeds which I can't wait to plant. And last but not least, the cutest card with an adorable puppy and kitty on the front with a surprise amazon MP3 gift card inside so I can purchase download my own favorite music! Perfect! I adore everything, but my favorite is the patriotic cottage style windchime! It matches my house style just right and how cute! You sent too much Faye. Everything is greatly appreciated. I would have chosen the same things if I were buying it for myself! You are such a great gardening friend! So thoughtful! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Sue N.

I'm surprised at how many peeps have such fitting photos!! I love the bee shot Alisande!!

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes I really didn't think anyone whould have a picture for this. Jenni has surprised me again!! How cute! Is that from Steph's wedding?

There are truly some absolutely perfect pictures on the song thread. Amazing what pics people have that could make up the words to a song and especially that song. LOL Great fun!

I see my mom hasn't been to this note so I'll answer...yes, that photo was from my wedding. It's one of my favorite!

WOW, this was one of my favorite theads since joining KT...just wish I knew how to post pics, even if I had to cheat and copy from an online site...the copper kettles were beautiful!

I had so much fun with Casey's idea, I'm really looking forward to another one. I was really surprised at how the photos all fit so well with the song. Glad you all like the mittens photo....I had made them all for some special (goofy)friends at Christmas.Each either had a meaning (i.e. taxi mittens, pond/goldfish mittens) or try to fit the personalities. They thought it was a hoot!!
Girls in white dresses got me too!! As did silver white winters melt into spring....beautiful pictures!!

I love that thread and hope she does it often. I didn't have anything to work with those lyrics but maybe next time. That was really fun.
