I was 10 when my grandfather bought me a bike for making good grades. I learned then.

I don't ever remember not knowing how to ride a bike. Probably around 3 years old.

I think it was the summer before I went to grade 2 but I am not sure.

Santa brought me a bike the Christmas I was 6 or 7. I learned how to ride with my mom or dad holding it. I had a lot of skinned knees in those days.

I think I was about seven when I got my first bike. I remember riding it around the block at least a zillion times since I wasn't allowed to ride it in the street. They were building a new post office at the other end of our block, and the parking lot was about a quarter of the block ... man! did I love riding in THERE!

I have no idea! Just remember riding it to the pool, music lessons, around the block. Never rode it to school, though.

I was probably around 10 and still remember coming down the steps on Christmas morning and spotting it by the tree...Good memories!

I don't remember, but I think I was young.

I had a friend my age who was also a neighbor. We were around 5 yrs old when Gloria got her first bicycle and she was so nice to let me ride it too. But then her Dad took off her training wheels and I couldn't ride it any more. We soon moved just out of town and I longed for my own bike. I told my Mom that I wanted Santa to bring me a bike that next Christmas. She carefully told me that bicycles cost a lot of money and she didn't know if Santa would be able to get me one that year. I think that was my most exciting Christmas when I saw a bicycle under the tree! I was 6 yrs old then. My Dad spent lots of time with me until I was riding it just fine without training wheels. I've loved bicycles ever since then!

I learned on a friend's bike when I was about 7. Never had my own bike until after I was married and DH built one for me from parts he got at the dump. That was the easiest pedaling bike and would coast for a long ways. We would take the kids and go on bike rides, two older ones had their bikes and youngest on seat behind me.

He built me a trailer to tow behind the bike and I would use it to go to the grocery store and would escort DD to school in the mornings and pick up aluminum cans on the way and toss in the trailer to sell later.

When we got ready to move from Ca. to Mo., I was having a big yard sale and there was a man there bright and early wanting to buy my bike and trailer. He had seen me riding it all over town, saving gas and running errands and he really wanted it. Can't remember what I sold it for.

My Brother had a "Boys" bicycle and that is how a learned at about 5 or 6. I had to keep getting my Brother's hand me down Bikes. Finally, when I was 12 or 13 I got one for Christmas. Only because they needed me to have transportation back and forth to school. LOL!

I use to put my Poodle Pepe in the basket to go to the Dairy Queen to get a Ice Cream Cone, which I shared with him.

I was 5. My parents made me get training wheels for it, I hated those things and it made me mad because my brothers didn't have to have them. Those things are like brakes on a bike, if you lean over the least bit, they drag and slow you down. When they finally took them off, I was gone like a shot!

Five or six, I think. My brother Bill and I got matching red bikes, except mine was a "girls" bike without that bar. Didn't have the training wheels for long, though.

Probably 6 or 7. I had my poor dad running beside me because I had a hard time learning to balance. My kids just seemed to pick it up by themselves. Either that or it's a memory I've forgotten!

When DS was five he insisted we take his training wheels off the day before a trip to Disneyland. He'd successfully ridden a neighbor's bike without them so that was that. Well of course he crashed and bent his finger back. Had to run to the ER and get it checked out and splinted. Then we had the whining every time we went on a rough ride at Disney. That was just an early sign of what was to come later. Stubborn kid. LOL

I don't remember what age I learned to ride, something like 6 maybe. But I do remember getting my first very own bike when I was around 11. Before that I had to share a bike with my sisters.
I am posting a picture of me and my sisters with my new bike back in 1966(I'm the youngest one in the back). Why my sisters are on it and not me, I don't know. The picture isn't the best quality but it is a treasure to me. My oldest sister has been deceased for 10 years now.
I loved that bike, I still have it but it's all rusted and needs a lot of work to get it to look like it used to.

I was 9 when I got my first (used) bike - I thought that it was related to birthday, but got it in spring. Maybe for passing a grade?

If we had small bikes in those days, I don't remember them: the only ones that I remember are the 26" ones (frame? wheel? I think wheel). Just single-speed ones, with regular tires.

Arranged a box atop a small grade ... but even then, some grazed shins, elbows and hands. Rode in our yard and on the gravel sideroad alongside our house and farm, later along the highway to school.

When grad into High School, Grade 9 - I got a new bike! If there were three-speed ones, I didn't know of them (till Univ.): the only ones that we knew of in those days were single-speed ones, and a few fellows had balloon-tired ones but most didn't and I didn't have a generator light on mine.

Brother nearly 4 years younger inherited the old used one that was my first one. I don't remember when the third brother, a year and a half younger than the one who inherited my old one, got a bike - it would have been a year or two later, most likely. He's very mechanically-minded: as a retired farmer, he now has a ball refurbishing old tractors.

Some fellows (maybe those from a small nearby community?) called them a "wheel" ... in recent years, when talking of the time of my mother's death, my cousin said that when I came around the corner of their house on my wheel that day, he knew that something was wrong. When my Mom became ill, she asked his Mom, her brother's wife, to take care of her boys ... and she took that task seriously. Youngest brother (about 6 mos. old) stayed there till ready for school ... he regards those two children almost like brother and sister.

I haven't had a bike in many years - don't think that I've ever had one since going to Univ.

Maybe I'd better get one of those electric ones ... looking to the day when I lose licence to drive a car.

P.S. Do you think that they have bikes in heaven? Cars?

Or do they travel by levitation? Using wings?

Any bumping against others?

Or does one just pass right through them?

That wouldn't be much fun for the body-shop types!

I was about 15,I bought the bike myself. :-)
In my neighbourhood not too many girls had bikes so
it wasn't unusual at the time and not many boys had them either.
