I was going to try the vinegar, but am glad i called electrolux and that you guys wrote in. I got to try the Sears detergent yesterday, and i really like it. My clothes had a fresh smell, no strong perfumey smell at all. I only used 1 TBL, but i may need to add a little more. I will just have to do trial and error to get the right amount. I did tear my bounce sheet into 3rds. I may try the dryer bar, but doesn't it also put a film on the sensors since it gets on the clothes? I have been wiping the sensors after every other load, so it is still a little confusing. I haven't really found any fabric softener that i like the smell of. I have tried Gain and mixed it with water in the dispensor, but didn't care for the smell. I know i could probably get a softener that is fragrance free, but i do like the smell of bounce when i don't use a whole sheet. Also Larsi, do you wash your sheets on the heavy duty setting since it has no bedding option? Also i have a queen bed, i put all the sheets in plus a couple towels to help the tumble. It seems like it is not enough in there, but i don't like to do towels on anything other than sanitize. How many sheets do you put in yours? Also, how many of the bath towels? I have the thicker ones and always worry about over loading. I usually do towels and wash cloths together, with some kitchen towels. I put 4 bath towels, 4-5 wash cloths,4-5 kitchen towels and wash cloths, and i worry if thats too many. Thanks for all the info. We had a bad experience at Sears once and the manager was a d---! Bought a set from Best Buy and they crossed threaded my hoses and our floor got flooded before we could pull the set out to get to the turn-off. They didn't care at all. Spoke to management, then corporate. Did nada about it, so i told them to come pick them up. I haven't had to wait for an order from lowes before. When i tried the IQ touch, it came the next day.I think everybody's stock is low due to the rebate. Millions bought appliances. I never could get through to get or reserve a rebate, and it just chaps my you know what!! i know i am probably being over cautious with this front loader, but it's a lota bucks and i can't buy one every couple years. Hope it comes by sat.

livebetter, I use both! But I am FURIOUS with Downy April Fresh!!! Take a minute and visit downy.com, Products...Ultra April Fresh. 100's of complaints!!! They changed the smell & formula for the first time in decades & decades. It is now overwhelmingly strong, gag inducing, sickly sweet...and it is so thick I have to use hot water & a small brush to get it out of my Miele's FS compartment!! Gone is the soft, non-offensive April Fresh softness. Now it is like cheap, toxic smelling dime store perfume! I am so mad. It even makes my laundry room and my Miele washer smell horrible...the smell is SO strong. Even though I am very against the use of Vinegar (and Miele told me not to use it)...I ran an empty machine with a small amount of vinegar, just to remove the "new" Downy Smell!!!!!

I've never found stainless to be such an advantage. I see all kinds of rusty stainless steel sinks, rust on stainless flatware and the like. I see dings in stainless drums that will cause problems with clothes. I've never had a stainless drum on a dryer because the dryers I've bought just didn't have them. Come to think of it, not one of my dryers has ever had a rusty drum either! So I guess I don't understand the infatuation with stainless steel. Even aesthetically it doesn't do much for me. JMHO. Now back to the hotter topic. I don't get quite as worked up over fabric softener as does Grainlady, and I do question some of her info sources but I do not question her sincerity nor her motives. She certainly tries to become educated on topics and I respect that and I definitely agree with Grainlady that I won't use it anymore. Quit using it 10+ years ago. To me, when clothes smell, they need to be washed. Some have to have smell on them whether it's from perfumed detergents and fabric softeners or marinating in perfume or cologne. Ironic that they banned smoking in elevators and not smelly clothes. That said, if someone really wants to use it and will keep a respectable distance, go ahead and use it. It's your money to spend how you want. For the original question I'd suggest to decide what smell you want and if you want a scented detergent smell, use that and the unscented Bounce. If you want the Bounce smell, use, as suggested, a perfume/dye free detergent. I use Tide Free/Sensitive skin and like the detergent. I seldom use anything in the way of a fabric softener. Just don't need it. Occasionally I'll use vinegar if I need to cut some extra soap or something if I've used extra additives in the wash. Another tip for those worried about static. Don't overdry your clothes. The poly blends can be left just slightly damp and will dry in a matter of minutes when out of the dryer and have no static. Static starts in them when they get overdryed because of the tumbling without moisture. I haven't had static problems in years. The few times there's a little, I shake it out slightly when I take it out of the dryer and all is well.
