Comments (8)"Chrome OS is free, there's no product key." What? How confusing this is to me. All of the refurbished say "OS installed" but some say "OS Licence Key" missing. Anyhow I ended up ordering one that included the OS Licence key for $165.00 including tax and S&H. I won't know if it will come with the free 100 gb google drive or the 12 free in-flight passes until I fire it up. Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I got it from cowboom.com which is a Best Buy company so returning it should be no problem. I am obsessed with cowboom.com, and pleased with all the purchases I have made with them in the past. These are the items people trade in or return to Best Buy that they fix up and sell. Products and prices change all day long so you have to research and then be ready to jump when the item becomes available. That's what I did tonight with the Chromebook so I am ready to give it a try. Thanks again - TM...See MoreAnyone have macular degeneration or know anyone that does?
Comments (16)My DH has this. He is no longer able to drive. He is diabetic and went through a period of denial - quit taking his meds, etc. He neglected his eyes and this is the result of that. Had they caught it sooner, he would be able to see better. For now, he gets injections in his eyes and laser eye surgery. He has had several of each since the first of last year. He uses magnifying glasses all the time. We just keep them laying around everywhere. His eyes are both better than when he was first diagnosed. They aren't promising anything, but as long as he keeps having small improvements and they continue the treatment, we are thankful. Bad thing is that we were planning to retire early, but now we can't. I have to continue to work to get health insurance until I am 65. I have a heart condition and he has diabetes and the eye problem. We are both uninsurable for all practical purposes. That is what hurts both of us. We worked so hard saving to retire and having enough to do a lot of traveling. Now - who knows. But, you caught yours early, so you should be in good shape. Just be sure you go to the doctor often to have them checked....See MoreWould anyone have......and does anyone know?
Comments (4)Not wanting to rain on anyone's parade, but a word of warning for the unwary. Sounds great doesn't it? 10 different cultivars on one understock. Can I let you in on some practical aspects of these offers, made to entice those who often know little better than to part with their money. It is usual to put 2 buds onto a standard understock. One, to give a bit of insurance should one bud not take, and two, to provide a balanced head, given that the buds are implanted on opposite sides of the stock, one slightly below the other. Usually both take and to begin with we have an acceptably robust plant. However after a few years one of the scions (usually the lower) does better than the other, which eventually dies. The lower scion gradually expands to enclose the entire head of the understock, in effect starving the upper scion of nourishment, and it dies. Very rarely is it the other way around. If you apply this logic to stock budded up with 10 cultivars, it follows that in 10 years you will have a 3' standard of the lowest budded cultivar. In addition to this, the cultivars mentioned are not vigorous enough to make a balanced plant at 6' height. They do have names of popular and reliable cultivars to lure the punters. Iceberg and Bonica are OK at tops 4' height understocks, while 6' understocks are usually reserved for the weeping or procumbent cultivars, to give that much larger, weeping and/or umbrella form. Hey, but in the end it's your money....See Morelaptop or chromebook
Comments (8)I'm going to take the other side and advocate for the Chromebook. I have a Windows desktop but bought a Chromebook in October 2015; I wanted a laptop and was curious about the Chromebook. I love it!! It's so easy. No daily or weekly notices to update this or that. I open the lid and it just runs. I had been using Firefox on the Windows machine but copied all my bookmarks to the Chrome browser on that same machine. My email was already gmail. Turned on the new Chromebook, entered my gmail address, and the bookmarks from the desktop appeared on the Chromebook. That was the setup!! Easy peasy. Because of the previous comment about Adobe Flash, I googled "sites that require Adobe Flash" to see what I was missing. I tried out a selection on each of the first two that appeared - ebizmba and beautifullife - and there was no problem. They played beautifully on the Chromebook. The Chromebook will not run a site that uses Microsoft Silverlight, in my case a stock charting site, but I knew this before purchasing the Chromebook and just use another site. My spouse has an older Windows laptop and is flummoxed by the frequent update requests. He's due for a new one and it will definitely be a Chromebook. We'll both be much happier!...See More- 11 years agolast modified: 11 years ago
