You have to know what compression your doc ordered and the size you need.
The price is good....much better than the medical supply places/pharmacies here....and shipping is free.
My insurance does not cover them but they are worth every penny I spend.

I remember having the same problem...supposed to be paid for via insurance..oops, not so etc. etc.. I used Jobst as well and there are many places yu can get different brands on line. Ames Walker is one. Even some drug stores carry them.

Good Luck with yours. I gave up on them after a short while.

I went to the website carol suggested and they sell the brand, that I am maybe buying from this shop. As I am researching, I am finding several places and way cheaper~~.

How does sizing work? What does 15-20mmHg mean?

I am flying to Texas next Wednesday and seeing this post reminded me that I was going to try compression socks to keep the swelling down during air travel.

I gave up on wearing them mosty because I couldn't stand the 'heat'. Living in California's Central Valley (think hotter than Sacramento where 100+ can be the norm). Also started walking 3-5 miles a day and the problem went away. If I were going to be traveling via air, I would use them....even by car for long distances. We now have a miotor home and space for movement is not a problem and we only go so many hours at a time. Gave up salt as well....which keeps leg swelling down.

Jodi I think it means how thick/tight the compression is. He told me I was a size 1 in stocking and said 20/30 compression. I am not going to be ordering them from this place since the insurance will pay 'O'. I will find a place online~~or we have a medical supply place in town that sells them.

Mine are going to be thigh high and I only need them for one leg. my older DD has knew high compression socks she wears after she runs, I guess most people do. So I would think a sports place would have them~~she goes to some big running store there in the OC also, not sure what it is called.

The socks I got from my doctor were knee high, for my ankles. I gave up after a few tries, because they were so tight, it took me 15 minutes to wriggle them on and another 15 to get them off. They did help, when I managed to get them on. I was looking for some knee high nylons at K-Mart one day and found some that said "compression" stockings. Much easier to get on and off, and they do help. I sleep in them. Don't wear them during the day. I've been sleeping with my feet elevated, over my heart, on a firm pillow and it helps a lot!

Maybe these are not as difficult to get on? I had to wear thick white ones for a while after each hip surgery. My DH had to help me pull them on -- off was easier. We would always dissolve in laughter trying to do this!

In one of my yoga classes, I worked out next to a lady almost 90, she wore knee high compression socks and put them on and off wearing rubber dish washing gloves. Did not seem to tak her very long~~~I would set up her gear for her while she took them off~~

When I got my first compression stockings they could only be purchased with a prescription.....and had to be fitted by a certified person. Proper fit is very important as far as I am concerned.
I have venous insufficiency and I have to wear the stockings, keep my weight under control and really watch my sodium intake.
I used to wear non prescription support hose and they worked great when my leg veins were a lot younger.

I wear knee high compression socks for long car rides and also for air travel. The brand I use is Jobst.

Jodi- If you are not allergic to aspirin, take a baby/low dose aspirin before your flight and drink lots of water. I get up and walk around the airplane for 5-10 minutes for every hour in flight.

I'll have to get out shopping before our flight and see if I can find a pair. I bet I'm probably the same size as you YogaLady. Mine will only be used for the flight as that's when I have the most trouble with swollen ankles and feet.

Laurie, can no longer take aspirin products due to kidney disease.
